“Hu Dahai, get out of Dragonrock Village!” Many villagers were yelling.
Hu Dahai was instantly filled with anger. “Who said that? Who’s telling me to get out? Come out here now!”Behind him, the group of hooligans glared with hostility in all directions.
The commotion weakened after this threat.
Nobody dared to stand against a tyrant like Hu Dahai!
“Pa! Ma!”
Yan’er had finally reached. She pushed through the crowd and arrived at the scene.
She rushed over to Shi Xuefeng, snatched the knife from his hands and flung it aside. “Pa, what are you doing!”
“It’s all my fault, daughter!”
Shi Xuefeng could not hold back his tears. His body trembled as tears streamed down his face.
“Oh, Yan’er is here! Be a good girl, Yan’er, and sign the contract! Your debt will be written off after you sign it. You’ll be my wife after that.” Hu Dahai walked to her and smiled courteously.
“I might be uneducated, but I know how to treat you well! I won’t mistreat you if you’re my woman. I’ll buy you anything you want: Rings, necklaces, brand name handbags, anything!”
Hu Dahai’s shifty eyes had a hint of perversion in them. His Adam’s apple rolled in his throat as he swallowed.
“Don’t listen to him, Yan’er!” Shi Xuefeng said angrily, “No matter how downtrodden I might be, I will not pawn my daughter away! Just give it up, Hu Dahai!”
“Pah! Damn cripple, it’s Yan’er’s business if she wants to follow me or not. What can do you about it, you useless father?” Hu Dahai laughed coldly.
Yan’er stood on the spot. Her face was pale.
She was trembling slightly. She turned around to look behind her. Her eyes were empty and lifeless.
There was no other choice. If she did not sign the contract, what could her family do? One hundred and fifty thousand yuan was a fortune for their family.
She closed her eyes in agony. When she opened them again, she seemed to have made up her mind. With trembling hands, she reached for the contract.
Hu Dahai looked almost ecstatic at that instant.
Everything would fall into place as long as Yan’er agreed. His body was shaking with excitement when he imagined this masterpiece of a woman would soon belong to him.
Meanwhile, Shi Xuefeng’s eyes were bulging in rage and his body shook with anger.
“Yan’er! Don’t sign it!” Suddenly, someone yelled from the crowd.
Yan’er was stunned. Her hand froze in place.
Hu Dahai was furious. “Which bastard said that? Come out here now!”
A plain-looking boy in a white button-down shirt came out from the crowd.
“Dammit, who the hell are you? Are you trying to be a hero? I’ll kill you!” Hu Dahai roared.
The crowd of villagers looked at him with curiosity.
“Who’s this? I’ve never seen him before…”
“Oh, I remember now! He’s Lil Hao, Caifeng’s son and Grandpa Jianyun’s grandson.”
“Oh, so that’s him! I know the kid!”
“Brother Hao!” Shi Yan’er called out to him. She was at a loss.
“Don’t sign that thing, Yan’er. Don’t worry too, I will help you solve the problem!” Tang Hao smiled as he walked toward Shi Yan’er.
He turned to look coldly at Hu Dahai.
He looked at the ugly, fat person in front of him with disgust. “It’s just a hundred and fifty thousand, right? I’ll pay for it!”
Everyone cried in surprise when they heard that.
“Where did Lil Hao get that much money from?”
“I’ve heard that he was kicked out of school and delivers packages for a living now. How could he have that much money?”
Shi Xuefeng was shocked. He looked at Tang Hao and shook his head.
He knew that the boy did not come from a rich family and had no means to procure a hundred and fifty thousand yuan. However, he was moved by the boy’s gesture of defiance.
Hu Dahai was worried that the kid might actually have the money to repay the debt. Then he would have no excuse to make the family’s life difficult, and the chance to claim the beautiful girl as his would be gone forever.
He was relieved when he overheard the conversation about this kid being just a poor delivery boy.
He laughed mockingly. “You’re just a delivery boy, where will you get the hundred and fifty thousand yuan from? Hmph! You’re just a country bumpkin and you want to play the hero? How about you get lost now?”
“It’s just a hundred and fifty thousand. You’ll get your money soon, Boss Hu,” Tang Hao replied coldly.
“Hah! You speak as though you really have the money! I wonder where a poor piece of trash like you will get the money from!” Hu Dahai roared with laughter.
“You will see very soon if I have the money,” Tang Hao remained calm.
Hu Dahai was shocked at his apparent composure. ‘Don’t tell me he really has the money?’ He thought.
Yan’er rushed to him and said urgently, “I can’t take this money from you, Brother Hao! This is the money you need to start your business! What will you do if you don’t have the money?”
“Don’t worry, Yan’er!” Tang Hao comforted her.
“But…” Yan’er was on the verge of tears.
“Oh! This Lil Hao is loaded!”
“Didn’t you hear, it’s the money to start his business!”
“No wonder. But where did he earn that much money though?”
The villagers were discussing.
Hu Dahai was becoming anxious. Things were not looking positive.
He clenched his jaw and a look of viciousness appeared on his face. “Mind your own business, kid. Didn’t you hear that they don’t want your money? Careful if I break your legs.”
Then, he indicated a signal to his left and right.
The hooligans understood his meaning. They laughed coldly as they surrounded Tang Hao.
Chapter 53
“Kid, if I were you I’d get lost as far as I can! Careful that I break your legs!” The bunch of hooligans laughed ominously as they closed in on Tang Hao.
“What are you doing?” Shi Yan’er screamed and stood in front of Tang Hao. “Run away quick, Brother Hao, I don’t want to drag you into this!”
“Silly girl!’ Tang Hao laughed gently and patted her head. “Don’t worry, it’ll be fine.”
After that, he stepped in front of her.
“Oh ho! You’ve got balls, kid! Then don’t blame us if anything happens to you!” The leader of the hooligans smirked,
Tang Hao did not look at him but at the two police officers standing aside. “Aren’t you supposed to do something?”
The two police officers were surprised when they heard that. They burst out laughing and looked mockingly at Tang Hao.
“This kid is so innocent!” One of the police officers mumbled.
Then, the two police officers turned around and looked away.
“Haha! Now you know the extent of Hu Dahai’s influence! The superintendent of the town police station is my brother-in-law. Over here, I am the king. Cross me and prepare to die!” Hu Dahai laughed arrogantly.
“Beat him up! Show no mercy!” He pointed a finger at Tang Hao and roared in anger.
The bunch of hooligans laughed sinisterly as they stepped toward Tang Hao.
The villagers all cried out in surprise. They felt sorry for Tang Hao. Lil Hao was only a boy of seventeen turning eighteen and was no match for this group of hooligans.
Some of them could not bear to watch idly. They rolled up their sleeves and picked up loose bricks, preparing to come to Tang Hao’s aid.
The boy standing in the middle of the scene was still as calm and composed as ever as if none of this is happening right in front of him.
“If you don’t plan to get involved in this, then don’t blame me when things get serious!” Tang Hao mumbled to himself.
He furrowed his brows and his
gaze became cold.
His entire aura transformed. He took a big step forward toward the hooligans, then reached out to grab a fist that was aimed at him. He tightened his grip, and the leader of the hooligans immediately turned pale and screamed in agony.
With a turn of his wrist, the hooligan’s arm was twisted like a breadstick. He then kicked out and the hooligan flew backward, knocking down two others behind him.
This move had stunned all the people around him.
The villagers were all slack-jawed. They did not know how to react to this.
The hooligans also went wide-eyed. They could not believe what they saw.
This scrawny-looking kid had sent their leader flying in one move. They knew how strong their leader was. He should be stronger than this kid.
Hu Dahai was also shocked. He could only look at this scene with incredulity.
Then, he came to his senses. “Useless! All of you are useless! What are you standing there for? Beat him up!” He roared as he jumped up and down on the spot.
As though being woken from a dream, the hooligans became rowdy again and rushed toward Tang Hao.
Tang Hao flicked his wrists and continued walking forward as if taking a walk in the park. His body looked as though it was shimmering when he dodged the attacks. Meanwhile, every one of his punches, kicks, and elbows sent someone flying.
‘Aaaaah!” The hooligans fell one by one while screaming in agony.
The scene in front of them was less like a fight and more like a staged performance. The villagers’ mouths opened wider and wider. Meanwhile, Hu Dahai was stupefied. His mind was blank when he saw this happening in front of him.
The two police officers were also slack-jawed. They did not notice that they dropped the cigarettes from their mouths.
“F*ck me, who the hell is this kid?” One of the police officers mumbled to himself.
“How could this be…” Shi Yan’er was also wide-eyed. She could not believe what she was seeing.
Was this the Brother Hao that she had known since young? Since when was he so powerful?
The last person fell.
Tang Hao remained on the spot. He flicked his wrists and glared coldly at Hu Dahai.
Hu Dahai’s entire body shuddered when he was glared at. His knees went weak and he fell sitting down on the ground.
His face was a ghastly pallor as he scooted backward. “What… What are you doing? I… I tell you, don’t be rash. My brother-in-law is the superintendent of the town police station. You’re dead meat if you even lay a finger on me.”
“A superintendent of a small town? What’s the big deal!” Tang Hao smiled coldly as he continued stepping forward.
Hu Dahai shuddered even more violently. He was cursing in his heart, ‘Dammit, where did this kid come from, and why is he so powerful?’
Suddenly, he thought of something and roared with laughter. He ran toward the two police officers and said, “Why are you two just standing there? Didn’t you see him beat all these people up! Arrest him and lock him up for two or three weeks.”
The two police officers came to their senses. They walked over and told Tang Hao fiercely, “You’ve committed a crime, kid. Come with us!”
After that, one of the police officers took out a pair of handcuffs and pounced at him.
Tang Hao glared at them coldly. He had no mercy for police officers that aided the tyrannous and bullied the innocent.
He grunted, then stuck out a foot and kicked squarely at the police officer that was pouncing at him.
The other police officer was shocked. Before he could yell, he was sent flying by a punch.
Hu Dahai was dumbfounded when he saw this. “F*ck me, this kid is insane. He even dared to beat up the police officers?”
Then, his shock turned into joy. “Hahaha! You assaulted the police officers? Let me tell you, you’re finished, kid! Totally finished! Prepare to rot in jail!”
He immediately dialed a number on his phone. “Hey, brother-in-law! There’s an incident here. There’s an insolent scoundrel here that has just beaten up two of your subordinates. Come here and arrest him!”
He ended the call then laughed at Tang Hao’s face. “I hope you like prison food, kid!”
The villagers became restless.
Things had become serious when the police officers were beaten.
“Oh no! Lil Hao was too impulsive!”
“These policemen are the worst. They only know how to bully the weak and innocent. I feel sorry for Lil Hao though, he’s a good kid!”
“No! We can’t let them arrest Lil Hao! It’s the police officers’ fault in the first place!” Tang Hao’s maternal uncle shouted.
“Right! Did they think we’re helpless weaklings? I don’t believe that they can arrest us all!” Many villagers agreed with him. Their emotions were running high.
“Brother Hao!” Shi Yan’er walked to him. Her face was apologetic and her eyes were swollen and red as if she could burst into tears at any time.
“It’s all my fault, Brother Hao. I’ve dragged you into this mess!”
“Don’t worry, it’ll be fine. I know some people. Even if the superintendent is here, he can’t do anything to me.”
Hu Dahai roared with laughter when he heard that. “Haha, you sure are a cocky kid! You’re just a delivery boy, how high can your connections get? I’ll see you die in a hundred different ways!”
Tang Hao only smirked and looked at him with disdain.
Without another word, he stepped forward and delivered a beating. Hu Dahai’s face was swollen like a pig.
Chapter 54
“You bastard, you dare to beat me? I’ll kill you…” Hu Dahai was still protesting. Eventually, he was reduced to moans and grunts as he laid on the ground. It was a pathetic sight.
The villagers cheered at this cathartic experience, though some of them looked worried.
Hu Dahai’s brother-in-law was the superintendent of the local police station in town and everyone regarded him with fear. It was bad news to cross him.
Twenty minutes passed quickly.
An ear-splitting police siren was heard at the entrance to the village. Three police cars drove in one after another. A squad of police officers hopped off the cars and rushed toward the crowd.
The one leading the squad was a fifty-something-year-old tall and thin man. He was dressed in a police uniform and looked unfriendly.
“Move aside! Everyone, get out of the way!”
He rushed ahead furiously. “Which one of you assaulted a police officer? Stand out now! You bunch of mountain folk dare to rebel against authority? You assault the police officers now. What’s next, a full-on revolution?”
“Superintendent! It’s that kid over there!” The two police officers went forward and pointed at Tang Hao.
The superintendent was shocked when he saw the person they were pointing to. ‘Isn’t he just a small kid? How old is he?’
Hu Dahai, who had been curled up in the fetal position on the ground, pounced on his feet and ran toward the superintendent, crying as if his parents had just died.
“Brother-in-law! You have to stand up for me! This kid is the troublemaker! You must make sure that he dies! Avenge me!”
Superintendent Huang almost could not recognize the person standing in front of him.
That person was in a horrible state. His face was as swollen as a pig’s head and all his facial features were distorted.
“You are… Dahai?”
“It’s me, brother-in-law! This is the handiwork of that kid! You must avenge me!” Hu Dahai cried.
Superintendent Huang was furious. “Alright! This kid is inciting a rebellion!”
“He was also cursing you, brother-in-law. He says that the superintendent of a small town can’t touch him!” Hu Dahai wiped the snot away from his nose.
“What, ‘Just a small-town superintendent’?” Superintendent Huang was raging. He ordered the police officers behind him. “Why are you still standing
there? Cuff him up now and bring him back for interrogation. My surname isn’t Huang if I don’t see him lose a layer of skin after this!”
The police officers received their orders and pounced onto Tang Hao with great ferocity.
“What are you doing? You want to arrest Tang Hao? Over my dead body!” Tang Hao’s uncle stepped out from the crowd and roared.
Some villagers also followed his actions and stepped out.
“You… you all are rebelling!” Superintendent Huang was angrier than ever.
Tang Hao walked toward his uncle and said, “Don’t worry, Uncle!’ Then he walked past the crowd toward the police officers.
“Cuff him up!” Superintendent Huang roared.
Tang Hao leisurely took out his phone and dialed a number. “Before you arrest me, Superintendent Huang, you might want to talk to this person and reconsider your decision.”
Superintendent Huang chuckled condescendingly.
He could only find this laughable. This kid in front of him was just from the village, but he boasted as if he was connected with some VIP. Who could this country bumpkin be acquainted with?
Tang Hao’s call went through. “Hello? Secretary Lin!”
Superintendent Huang burst out laughing. “Secretary Lin, too! Who’s he fooling?”
“I’m in a little bit of trouble here, Secretary Lin. I’m now at Dragonrock Village, near Jade Town. The police officers here are abusing their power and tormenting innocent villagers. Now their Superintendent Huang is here and wants to arrest me.
“Alright, I’ll pass the phone to him.”
After that, Tang Hao handed his phone over. “Secretary Lin wants to talk to you.”
Superintendent Huang laughed coldly and said, “Who will believe you? Let me expose your lies.”
He walked a few steps forward and took the phone, then yelled, “Hello? Who’s this? Tell me your name. I know you’re not Secretary Lin. I can say that I’m Secretary Zhao, too!
“Goddammit, you’re still pretending to be Secretary Lin? I’ll arrest you as well!”
