“That’s the way I like it, son. Next time we meet it will be in my office as an official member of my crew. You and I will work very well together.”
I agree with him, even though it’s far from the truth.
“Keep your phone handy. The next time I need you, I’ll ring.”
Ricky walks me out to the front door as a second security detail holds it open.
“The future is bright, Vinny, and we’re just getting started.”
His laughter follows me out of the house along with his parting words. I’m running out of time, and my house of cards is about to topple over with the slightest breeze. We might just be getting started, but the end has already come.
