  Epilogue

Over the next couple of years, Mia and I were back to the way we were before she left me.

Knowing Mia would need me I decided to sell my business, and I made one hell of a tidy profit.

Both Mia and I decided to start a charity that helped former addicts get back into their feet once they finished their treatment. We help them gain employment and we help find them homes in decent neighbourhoods.

Since my mother’s new doctor was located in New York, we decided to permanently move to the city.

We purchased two large apartments, one for Mia and me, and one for my mother, Nancy and her boyfriend Callum.

One afternoon I went over to speak to Nancy. I knew she was struggling with not having Callum with her, so I made an offer. I offered to fly Callum in to stay with her permanently, and that I’d be thrilled to hire him because we could always use an extra hand with our client list is growing by the day.

Callum was thrilled to take on the opportunity, and within two weeks, he’d packed up their apartment, quit his job and moved out to New York.

The minute he arrived; I saw a huge improvement in Nancy’s mood. It’s not like she was angry, she was still performing her job spectacularly, but she seemed down. It’s was nice to see her back to her old self.

Over time, my mother’s condition deteriorated. She became more and more confused. Doctor (insert name) did everything he could to help her, but it wasn’t enough.

Four years after her initial diagnosis my mother’s mental health along with her physical health deteriorated fast. We spent all our time with her, supporting her, but we lost her just four years after her diagnosis.

Raine was a regular visitor in our household. Yes, she still acted occasionally, but just like us, she was committed to the, the cause being the charity we’d set up for former addicts. Raine came along way in her sobriety, and Chase even got close enough to her that she eventually felt she was ready to date again and Chase was the one she wanted to be with.

Chase packed up his life in California and he moved into my mother’s old apartment after her passing.

Nancy and Callum, picked up and moved back to LA. Nancy missed her family immensely so she knew it was time to leave the big city.

Stef gave up modelling, but she opened a casting agency for plus size models. She was sick of being hungry all the time while she was modelling and she advocated on behalf of Plus-Size models. Sure, she put on some weight, but it wasn’t a lot and I could see just how happy she became when counting carbs wasn’t her highest of priorities.

About a half a year after my mother’s passing, we received a very unexpected call from Jo’s toy boy Braxton.

Just as Mia had predicted, Jo grew tired of having to care for a young child and Braxton was at a loss, begging for help.

Mia wasn’t in the right headspace to make a decision, so I sat her down and I asked if it would be possible for us to adopt the child. Since the young girl was innocent in the bullshit between the kids and their mother, I thought it would be a nice idea if we were the ones to raise her and teach her the right way to do things.

Mia jumped on the opportunity. We’d been trying for a baby for some time, but the damage to Mia’s body from the drugs, alcohol and anorexia, was far too great.

Sarah was a wonderful addition to our family, she got along mostly with Raine.

Life was and still is picture perfect.

  The End

Thank you so much for giving me a chance and reading this book. I hope it doesn’t suck.

Being a new author is daunting, but it’s a chance I wanted to take.

  Thank you.
