Woodland Fae: The World of Fae, Book 10 Page 21

Simon was glad to see Letta enjoying herself finally. He had decided to be a pirate and she was a fairy princess, just like she’d said she’d wanted to be. Mark and Bryan were dressed like they normally were as the fae. Some were witches and ghosts and vampires. Everyone was having a great time, just as though they were little kids, eager to fill their sacks with candy.

But then Letta grabbed Simon’s hand and smiled. “There. Robin Hood and Maid Marion.”

Simon looked in the direction she was watching and saw the king and a younger version of Maid Marion. “He brought her.”

“And all the rest of the kids, except for a couple of older ones. They’re probably stuck with fae seer guard duty.”

Letta waved at Hannah and the king, and Simon waved to get their attention too. One of the younger kids with the king tugged at his hand and pointed in their direction. He smiled and led them toward Simon, Letta, and their pack members, Ena and Brett and their staff.

Letta and Hannah hugged and Ena smiled and said privately to Simon, “I’m glad she is getting along so well with Letta.”

“I think Letta is good for her,” Simon said.

“And Letta’s good for you, Simon.”

“And for you,” Simon said. “Can you say you would ever have brought your people here for trick-or-treating without her suggesting it?”

Ena cast him an elusive smile. “No.”

Then they saw trouble headed their way. Three male teens who were staring at the huge number of fae. Yes, they had invaded the human world just for treats. No tricking this time. But Simon was sure they were three fae seers. Too many fae for them to handle however. He noticed King Tameron also watching them. And then he waved his hands and the three teens disappeared.

Ena frowned. “I wonder what Robin Hood did with them.”

“That’s Tameron, king of the scorpion fae.”

“Oh, wow. Letta’s grandfather, then,” Ena said.

Tameron caught their eye, smiled, bowed graciously, and headed to the next house with his charges. They didn’t need fae glamor. They were the right age to trick-or-treat.

“Where did he send the fae seers?” Simon asked Letta when she and Hannah rejoined him.

“Back to his home. He’ll keep an eye on them when he returns.”

Simon wondered just how many fae seers the old scorpion king could manage before he couldn’t handle all of them.

“He has powerful magic,” Letta said, kissed him, and ran off to the next house with her princess bag already partly full, Hannah racing after her.

He laughed and hurried to catch up to them.

“I imagine his magic is more powerful than mine,” Brett said, as he and Ena ran after them. “I couldn’t have sent the fae seers back to our world like that.” He waved his wand, scattering sparkles of light about. Though he had powerful magic, this was just for showmanship and fun.

“We could show them real magic,” Ena said.

  “Turning into dragons,” Brett said.

  “And wolves,” Hannah said, laughing.

And they all piled up on the next house’s doorstep, shouting, “Trick-or-treat!”

After they had their fun with trick-or-treating as younger kids, they were finding an older kids party to crash. That was the fae way.
