She’s so in love with Frank, and she feels bad putting their relationship on hold, but it was the right move. She’s sure of it. She recalls the day she did it, and how sad she was, and is. She thinks about him all the time, wondering if he thinks about her, misses her. Once things settle and he’s still after her, then they’ll both know more and be certain.
Her mind plays tricks on her and, for some reason, she starts thinking about a bunch of things, the surveillance room, and she reflects briefly on her partner Rob and what a complete mess he is (maybe suicidal), the ass-kissing club staff at the Heritage Hills Golf Club, Juvieux, and all those hours looking at recordings on and around July 18th, and that agent Forsyth with the photographic memory. She wants to be captain, Leary’s retiring. She deserves it. She had Helen looking at photos. Guess that can stop. Couldn’t find the friendly woman anyway. She also thinks Reggi’s a little weird, staring at her, and then she gives Helen a thought, too. That turned strange, but good. She needs to stop killing people. About how she was menacing and deadly and it’s all a front for a little lady around Addie’s own age that got wrapped up in the underworld.
◆◆◆
Elsie’s been resting in her grave for under a year. How brutal the murder was. It was so long ago, and the pain is hardly a memory. If she could, and maybe she does, she recalls the fourth grade, Gen, their first kiss. Their wedding night and the first time she made love; him, too. She made sure Gen remained a man, a human with feelings. She doesn’t approve of everything he does and knows there is a lot of collateral damage.
Face it—anyone closely connected to Biggie Battaglia is always in danger.
And where have we heard that before?

Thank you!
You are the reader I thank the most. Without you authors like me are, well, a waste of time. I write because I like to, and my imagination wakes me up at night, searching for something to scribble an idea onto. We always get our best ideas at the worst times, don’t we, when our minds are drifting.
I hope you enjoyed my writing as well as the storyline. If that’s the case, won’t you leave some feedback for me. You may not know this, but I routinely give my ebooks away for free. If you ‘follow me’ or ‘like my page’ on Amazon (william cain) or Facebook (william cain author), you'll receive notifications when I plan the next giveaway. As a rule of thumb, my ebooks are free on five Mondays every three months.
I’m planning nine more volumes with Addie. There’s even a period piece based in Chicago that takes place in the forties, up to present day, and includes Addie meeting Biggie when she’s just sixteen.
I’ll continue to do my best, making the mystery harder to solve with each Volume as it’s published, just like a crossword puzzle that’s easy on Monday and almost impossible on Sunday. Humbly, thank you once again for reading my novel.
