Mark of the Two-Edged Sword Page 31

by K A Bryant

I stop, mid-descent down the steps. I look Ed directly in the eyes. I ignore the pilot standing there, and Maybac driver.

"You are not 'only' a steward," I say, extending my hand. Something in his eyes ignites. That's what I wanted to do. Send him on another trail of thought about himself. Just as this mission did for me.

What did Jason do? I call him.

"The number you have dialed has been disconnected. Please check your number and try your call again," a recording says.

The drive is quick. The Maybach pulls up in front of a mansion and a man walks out of the deep entryway holding something behind his back. Something about him is familiar.

  “Wallie?” I say aloud.

I get out of the car, immediately, our eyes lock searching for that teenager we used to be. He brings his hand from around his back. He has my brown leather jacket. He holds it out to me. I know what this means.

I reach for my jacket and smile.

Coffee is a wonderful addition to good book. As a child, I loved to find a quiet room and dig into a good book. As I got more seasoned, I learned that once a reader, always a reader. Time may not be as abundant, but there are always gaps in life that are just large enough to slip a good chapter or two into. A long train ride, a lunch break or delayed meeting at work. Jumping into that other world is a feeling nothing else can give.

I Always Have a Book Brewing.

Hot cup in hand, I started writing for the love of writing and can’t think of anything I would rather do for the rest of my life. Once a writer, always a writer. A vision grew to draw a leisure reader, confined patient, or a child on summer vacation with their feet twirling in the grass, into a new world between two covers. I want to invite you to join the mailing list to stay informed of all the new upcoming promotions and book give-away.

  Dedication

I am blessed to have been afforded the time to write, the love to write, and support to write.

This came from God above, and my dear husband, Michael.

My Darling, I love you and dedicate this book to you for all of the times you looked at me with that flicker of faith in your eyes as you encouraged me to finish.

My children, I love you for every smile and hug and pray this encourages you to achieve what God places in your heart.

Mom & Dad, you are perfect examples of what it means to be fearlessly motivated, stepping into the unknown to fulfill your dreams. Thank you for seeing the gift in me and for encouraging me to reach higher and for all your love and Godly guidance.

  K.A. BRYANT, Author

I still remember how warm it was in Mrs. Harris’s English class. She liked it that way although she wore a sweater. I don’t know why I was always distracted by her long beaded necklaces she pulled on habitually. That was when teachers wore silk blouses, long skirts down to their mid calf with stockings and shoes that clicked when they walked.

She was a retired play-write with her passion for the written word evident in her detailed critique of every short story scrawled by the twenty children in the class. She was the catalyst. The pointed finger saying ‘go that way’. All I knew was it was fun. Oh, the simple thinking era.

Life, time and the Internet soon showed me that there was so much more to writing. The wonderful thing was discovering a world of wonderful people with either a love of reading, writing or both so willing to share their opinions and be a pointed finger.

Much time has passed since Mrs. Harris’s class but I’m still going in the direction of that pointed finger.

My hope… is that my journey in writing will find my books in the hands of readers all over the world and inspire someone to reach further, write more, or just explore their dream. Hope can be lost when you are going through a long, seemingly endless difficult time, just as the main character Caleb Promise experienced. In the book, keeping focused on his mission pulled him out of the pit-experience he was in. An experience that was draining him of his strength and willingness to live.

You and I… can propel a vision past expectations. I can write it, but I need you to read it, write a review and if you liked it, recommend it to a friend and become a super fan. For your convenience, you can stay in touch with me by Twitter @kabryantauthor, Facebook @kabryantbooks. I am also on Instagram, GoodReads, and WordPress. Thank you for reading the book!
