Finn grabbed me and held me up. “Are you okay?”

“Oh, sure, I’m fine,” I said. “I guess everything just hit me at once. Now that I think it might be over, I kind of freaked out.”

“This isn’t over,” the killer said with venom in his voice.

“Police will say differently,” I snapped.

The sound of the sirens grew closer and soon the cars came to a screeching halt outside the barn. Seconds later Detective Bailey appeared at the barn door. I was never so glad to see his handsome face. He raced over to us. Other officers ran behind him.

“What happened? Are you all right, Scarlet?” he asked.

“We got him,” I said with a big smile.

“Oh, good, the cops are here,” the killer said with a scoff.

The officers went over to pick Ryan up from the barn floor. They untied his legs and hands after placing handcuffs on him.

Alex shook his head. “Well, you sure got him.”

I crossed my arms in front of my chest. “I guess you should listen to me more often.”

“Yes, I guess I should. By the way, you were right. Obviously, the murdered man at Rhonda’s home wasn’t her husband.”

“Well, yeah,” I said. “Who was it?”

“The man’s name is Broderick Everett. Apparently, he was in a relationship with Rhonda.”

“So they both were seeing other people?” I sighed.

“Yes, it looks that way.” Alex replied but turned his attention to Finn.

Finn looked away. After the officers took Ryan out of the barn we followed. I was ready to get out of that place. Now I’d have nightmares about barns.

My mother draped her arm over my shoulder. “What would I do without my daughter to save me?”

“Not need to be saved in the first place?” Finn answered.

  I raised an eyebrow. “Hey!”

He was right though. I needed to watch out for my family and friends. Being around me was a disaster waiting to happen. As we headed toward the cars, I spotted a green truck parked across the way.

  “It’s the truck.” I pointed.

Alex followed the direction of my pointing finger. “Are you sure?”

  “I’m positive that’s him,” I said.

Alex hurried over toward the truck. The engine started and I worried that the truck would get away before he got there.

Alex yelled out, “Stop right there.”

I noticed there were two people in the truck. Now I needed to see who was responsible for almost killing me. Did it have anything to do with Ryan? An accomplice? I headed closer.

“Don’t go over there,” my mother yelled.

“Scarlet,” Finn yelled as he raced behind me. “Stop.”

  “It’s fine,” I called out.

He grabbed my arm. “That’s dangerous. Let the detective take care of it.”

I was close enough to see who was in the truck now. It was the woman who had asked me for my autograph.

“I've seen her before,” I said.

“Who is it?” Finn asked as he stood beside me.

  “She wanted my autograph.”

He raised an eyebrow. “You were asked for an autograph?”

“Yes, all the time, don’t you?”

I kind of felt bad for my little fib.

“Yeah, sure,” he said with lack of confidence in his voice.

Soon I watched as Alex motioned for more officers to come over. They had the guy out of the truck and the girl too. Then they slapped handcuffs on both of them.

“All that just for asking for your autograph?” Finn asked.

I poked Finn in his side. “That’s the guy who tried to kill me.”

Finn draped his arm around my shoulders. “I’m glad that he didn’t succeed.”

“You mean that you wouldn’t want to get rid of your co-host?”

  “Not a chance,” Finn said.

Alex stared at us as he headed in our direction. Soon I worked my way out from under Finn’s arm. Luckily, Alex explained everything to us. The man in the truck hadn’t confessed, but his girlfriend sure had. He had been so obsessed with me that in his crazy mind he thought he’d get rid of me since I wasn’t responding to his advances. I had no idea who this guy was. I’d never even seen him before. Apparently, he’d left the notes for me though. I was just glad that he was being arrested now. Now maybe this was all over. For now.

  The end.
