The children stampeded to the door, impatiently waiting for their parents while Carlita and the rest of the family trailed behind.
“Wait.” Vinnie stopped them. “There’s one final surprise.”
“I forgot all about it,” Tony said. “You’ve been talkin’ about this big surprise since you got here.”
Brittney, who stood behind her husband juggling the baby in one arm and a gift bag in the other, handed the bag to him.
Vinnie reached inside and pulled out a stack of envelopes. “Wait ‘til everyone has their envelope to open them.”
After handing them out, he winked at his wife. “Okay. Go ahead and open your present from Brit and me. We’re takin’ a business trip in the spring and want to take all of you along with us.”
Carlita turned the envelope over. She slid her fingernail under the edge and peeled the paper back. A card with a sketch of a cruise ship decked out in Christmas lights, and a jolly Old Saint Nick sliding down the gangway, dragging a bag of gifts behind him was inside.
She opened the card, which read, “Merry Christmas, Ma.” There was a folded piece of paper. It was a voucher. Her eyes shot up.
Vinnie was grinning from ear to ear.
“Son. What is this?”
“We’re goin’ on a cruise. The Garlucci family cruise.”

Hope Callaghan is an American author who loves to write clean fiction books, especially Christian Mystery and Cozy Mystery books. She has written more than 70 mystery books (and counting) in six series.

Broken Spaghetti Risotto Recipe
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon olive oil
8 ounces uncooked thin spaghetti, broken into 1-inch pieces
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon pine nuts, coarsely chopped
3 cups chicken broth
½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 cup ricotta cheese *
½ cup freshly grated Parmesan or Italian cheese blend
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
-Heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add broken spaghetti to heated pan, stirring constantly, until pasta turns golden brown (roughly 3 to 5 minutes.)
-Add chopped pine nuts and minced garlic. Blend well.
-Cook until garlic turns translucent.
-Pour in a third of the chicken broth and increase heat to medium high.
-While broth absorbs, continue stirring spaghetti.
-Repeat this process with the next third, continuing stirring until liquid is absorbed.
-Add last third, stirring until all of the liquid is absorbed and noodles reach desired consistency.
-Reduce heat to low.
-Stir in ricotta cheese. *
-Season spaghetti with salt, pepper and red pepper flakes to taste. Remove from heat.
-Sprinkle Italian cheese or fresh parmesan over top.
-Serve immediately.
*The ricotta cheese is optional and adds a level of creaminess to the dish.
To serve as a main dish, you could also add grilled chicken and broccoli.
