With the yule log burning, it’s finally time for my favorite part of the day. Eating. The tables are laden with roasted hog, buttered root vegetables, nuts, fruits, bread, and mead. There’s enough food to feed everyone for days. With our families gathered around and talking about everything they plan on doing over the next year, it is hard to still be angry with Angelo. Though every now and then, I catch myself glaring at the boy who hasn’t taken his eyes off of Brana since we sat down to eat. When I feel a soothing hand on my thigh, I look at Sylvie and debate on how to tell her what Angelo said about loving our daughter. At least I have Sylvie to help get us through this because she is the glue that holds this family together. She is the reasoning, the peace, the love. Everything this family is, is because of her.
She’s my sanctuary.
