A Witch's Quest Page 39

by Leigh Ann Edwards

Killian’s eagerness to find his own father after all these years was creating an excitement within her as well, something she hadn’t felt in some time and she was becoming caught up in his hopefulness. He was willing to make this arduous journey into a largely untamed land simply because of his faith in her abilities as a seer, and her vision so many years ago when she’d been a young child. She’d conjured a vision and in it she’d seen their fathers together somehow. He had long held tight to that belief. Now that she had discovered her father was a magical searcher enlisted by the Celtic gods, she wasn’t certain how Killian’s father could be found with him, and yet as she dwelled on that thought even now, she was suddenly filled with certainty. They would find their fathers no matter what it took to accomplish it.

She knew as a druid and as a searcher her father, Teige O’Rorke, possessed powerful magic that allowed him to create portals to other realms, worlds and times in order to save the lives of many. Would the magic he possessed be capable of assisting her in finding a way to contend with her present turmoil? If that were accomplished, the evil from within her abated, then she would be strong enough to contend with the demon, Ciara and the coven of witches and anyone who was aligned with the side of darkness.

She placed her hands upon the stubble on Killian’s jaw in affection, and smiled up at him in reassurance. Their eyes met and she recognized the undeniable love he felt for her. It warmed her heart and lightened her soul. He bent to kiss her on the lips, not a kiss of passion, but of affirmation of his love and devotion. He squeezed her to him, his strong chest beneath her cheek, his appealing masculine scent comforting her and she wrapped her arms around his neck and clung to him.

She reveled in his warmth and his protectiveness, and as she stared up at him again, she was filled with overpowering love for him, more powerful than anything she had ever experienced including her magic.

“Come back to our bed, Lainna. Come make love with me and then sleep in my arms in our bedchamber this night for we aren’t certain when we will return.”

“I thought you were weary, Killian, and insistent we seek certain slumber?” she whispered with a sultry smile.

“Aye, eventually we will slumber, my darlin’ Lainna, but for now my need to love you is far greater than my need to rest.” He grinned as she touched his jaw, yet again and then allowed her hand to move downward to caress his broad muscular chest.

“And I need you as well, my husband.”

He bent to kiss her again and she met his lips with mutual desire and she stared into his intense green eyes as he effortlessly lifted her into his arms and carried her to their bed.

She and Killian had certainly faced many challenges and adversaries before. Their love and their lives had never been without risks and dangers for them, but they had made it this far; as long as they were together they would surely persevere. She would hold tight to the belief they would find a way to meet whatever might be in store for them in the rugged land to the north. They were setting out on perhaps the most perilous of adventures to discover hidden truths to the many unanswered quandaries that had plagued them for so long. On this journey she was certain she would fulfill what was perhaps always intended for her. The thought both frightened and intrigued her knowing she would ultimately seek her fate and finally discover a witch’s destiny.
