Break: An Urban Hero's Journey Page 26

by Wes Grant

When Spear landed, he said, “Holy crap! When did you learn that move?”

Voltedge pointed at Spear and yelled, “I was saving it for you, but I guess I got a little carried away.” Spear ran over to Ice to see how he’s doing. He grabbed his shoulder and they both jumped back giving them some distance. He then said to Ice, “Are you good?”

Ice said “I’m good, I got this.” Just then M Wave screamed and released a huge amount of microwaves expanding his field all the way over to them. They both got caught off guard by the reach of his attack and was burned a little. Spear’s device on the side of his head exploded off the side of his head. He then grabbed Ice and jumped out of range because if they stayed within M Wave’s field, they would get cooked from the inside out.

At that moment, when they were weakened from the last attack, all four of them went on the attack after Spear and Ice. Spear looked up and saw an electric ball flying toward them. He knew he couldn’t get Ice out of the way in time, so he shielded Ice from the attack with his back. He hoped his backpack would lessen the damage, but when it hit him he was electrocuted and belted out in pain. Ignite shot a big fireball at Spear and Ice. Ice pushed Spear out of the way taking the attack head on. Ignite’s attack exploded on impact sending them flying back tumbling on the ground. M Wave began hitting them with his power burning them from the inside. All of a sudden, someone said, “Enough.” It was Shrink. He walked up and joined the other four.

Shrink said, “Let’s enjoy this. I’ve read his thoughts and he’s beaten. He’s got nothing left to give.”

Spear began to crawl toward Ice to see if his best friend was still alive.

Shrink said, “So you two have a past. Best friends, huh? Well, shouldn’t it be fitting for best friends to die together.” Spear was coughing up blood and crawled to his knees next to Ice. With his back to the five he pulled Ice up to his lap to see if he’s still alive but Ice was unresponsive.

Shrink heard Spear’s thoughts and said, “Look on the bright side, at least you’re not going to die alone.” Spear was holding Ice and saw the animal adrenaline booster Ice used in the fight against him. He remembered how strong Ice got when he took it and, without thinking, injected himself with it. At first it didn’t seem to have any effect. For Ice it instantly increased his strength and speed to great lengths, but due to the fact that Spear already had elevated adrenaline levels higher than any regular human, the booster had a negative effect. Spear’s head began to throb. He could even hear his heart beat. His heart went from a regular beat and gradually speed up to an extremely fast pace. It felt like his heart was going to explode out of his chest. He began to tremble and shake.

Crank said, “Little man crying over even more little friend.” Spear’s vision began to blur and he felt the rage he’d always tucked away begin to surface, an animal rage that he’s never felt before. He felt himself losing control over his body. His muscles began to expand. His teeth began to grow to a point like some sort of animal. His irises turned red. His fingernails began to grow into claws. His feet broke through his shoes. His braids become tighter as if they were trying to come loose. His body hair began to grow covering him with a thin coat of hair.

Voltedge said, “Hey, Doc, what’s this guy thinking now? I bet he’s thinking why he didn’t stay in bed today.” Shrink replied, “Nothing.”

Voltedge said, “What? What do you mean nothing?”

Shrink replied, “Like I said, nothing. It’s as if he has no rational thought going through his head right now. All I can get is rage.”

Spear began to shake uncontrollably and started to growl. He dropped Ice and turned his head with the hood covering his face. All that could be seen was the red iris in the shadow of the hood.

Crank said in his Russian accent, “What’s the matter, Little Man, mad ’cause we beat up boyfriend?” In a split second he appeared in front of Crank as if he teleported there and punched Crank right in the face. The impact alone created a mini shockwave lifting everyone off their feet and sending him flying back toward the building Shrink was in. Everyone seemed to be in slow motion, to slow to react. Spear went into a handstand upside down split and spun, kicking the four of them in different directions. Spear then flipped back to his feet and pounced after Crank. Crank had dented the brick wall and was trying to pull himself together, but before he could, he looked up and saw this beast coming straight at him. Spear jumped and landed on Crank, sending him tumbling back to the wall. Spear began to furiously punch Crank’s face like a wild animal. With every punch it sounded like an explosion. Crank’s head began to cracked the brick wall behind him. The punches were so powerful the whole area was shaking.

The other four came to their feet and began to panic.

Voltedge yelled, “WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!”

Shrink said terrified, “I don’t know.”

Ignite yelled, “WHAT DO WE DO, MAN?”

  Shrink said, “I don’t know!”

They all felt the ground shaking from the attacks Crank was enduring.

M Wave said, “SHOULDN’T WE HELP HIM?”

Shrink yelled out, “DAMMIT, I DON’T KNOW!”

Voltedge said, “Well, figure something out because I think he’s going to kill Crank.” This Psycho Spear was still punching the life out of Crank’s face. It was almost unrecognizable from all the blood on it. Spear began to head-butt Crank in the face. The wall began to collapse behind him, and they both fell through. But Spear didn’t stop; he had lost complete control like a rabid animal. The rage had taken over. While still attacking he was struck with an electric attack. He then turned back at Voltedge and snarled. He jumped off Crank and sprinted toward Voltedge and M Wave on all fours like a dog.

Voltedge said, “OK, this better work. Kid, do like Doc said and keep your field the same size as mine.” Just then Spear appeared in front of them and swung to attack, but his attack was stopped by an electric field burning his hand. Like a determined wild animal he kept attacking the shield. After a few attacks Spear pulled back his hands and looked at the smoke coming from them. He looked up at them, growled, then jumped away.

Voltedge said, “Whoa, thank god that worked.” All of a sudden something hit the field and disintegrated. Spear had an arm full of bricks from the wall he knocked Crank through. While holding up one arm he tried to hit Spear with electric bolts but he was moving almost too quick to follow. The bricks kept hitting the field but were not getting through. The bricks attacks then stopped.

Voltedge and M Wave were both breathing heavily and were scared out their minds when M Wave asked, “You think he gave up.”

Voltedge replied, “I don’t know, kid.” He then looked up and saw a figure coming down at them. He yelled, “Kid, look up!” They both strengthened the field. The figure landed on the domeshaped field and began to scream. It was Crank. He was being electrocuted and burned at the same time.

M Wave yelled, “Should we lower the field?”

Voltedge said, “No, that’s what he wants us to do!” But just then Spear landed on Crank’s back and with the force of his land, forced Crank and himself through the field. Voltedge and M Wave were caught off guard and were right in striking distance of this Psycho Spear. Spear’s took his claws and stabbed it into the stomach of both Voltedge and M Wave. He then lifted them both up, having the blood trail down his arms. He brought them close to his face and snarled at them. He was then hit by a fireball, but it had no effect on him. He tossed the two to the ground and turned around to look at Ignite. Ignite said in the MST, “OK, I hope you know what you’re doing, Doc, because he looks like he’s hungry.”

Spear started running at Ignite. Ignite unleashed all of his firepower and created a wall of flame around him. Spear tried to get at Ignite through them, but hecouldn’t.

Meanwhile Shrink snuck over to Voltedge and M Wave. He said, “Are you guys alive?” They didn’t respond. He checked their pulses and felt a faint pulse. He began trying to move them away from the area.

Back with Ignite, Spear was swinging furiously at the flames trying to get through. He jumped back away from the wall of fire and went into a pouncing stance. He then jumped at the wall and began to spin in a drill motion with his claws over his head. He hit the wall and somehow began to drill his way through the wall of fire. He broke through and hit Ignite with the attack, sending him flying out of the flames with slices all over his body. He hit a wall and fell to the ground, leaving a pool of blood around him.

Spear then looked back and saw Shrink trying to get away with Voltedge and M Wave. He moved super fast and grabbed the back of Shrink’s outfit and tossed him back into a wall. Before he even fell to the ground, Spear grabbed him by the neck, pushed him against the wall, and lifted him up. Shrink could barely breathe, and he was trying to hold on to Spear’s arm so he didn’t suffocate.

Shrink said in a raspy voice, “Please don’t kill me.” Spear had this look in his eyes as if he didn’t understand. Spear then lowered him slowly, closer to his face. Shrink said in a calm raspy voice, “That’s it, just let me go. You don’t kill remember. This isn’t you. You wouldn’t want to do something you’re going to regret.”

Spear stopped, lifted him back up a little and looked at Shrink’s right arm then looked back at him. Shrink panicked and said, “What? What are you doing?”

Spear grabbed the right arm with his left hand and broke it. Shrink screamed in agonizing pain. Spear then grabbed the left arm. Shrink pleaded, “No, please no, no, no, no . . . Aaaahhh.”

Spear broke that one too. Spear then lifted Shrink higher and grabbed his right shin. Shrink pleaded again, saying, “Please just stop.” Spear ignored the pleading and broke that one too. He then quickly broke the left leg. Shrink was on the verge of falling unconscious from the pain. He mumbled out, “Please have mercy and kill me already.”

Spear put his face right in front of Shrink and raised his own left arm. He raised two fingers in front of Shrink’s eyes as if he was about to gouge them out. The claws went about a millimeter away from the eyes when a guard starting his late shift saw Spear. The guard said, “What the hell happened here?” Spear turned and saw the guard. The guard saw the crazy look in Spear’s face with blood all over him and ran into the building. He ran down the stairs. Spear tossed Shrink out of his hands and into one of the electric generators, causing him to get electrocuted and exploding his MST device on the side of his head. He then sprinted toward the building and jumped through the window. He then jumped down the center area of the steps and landed in front of the guard. The guard saw this beast covered in blood with blood thirsty eyes. Spear walked toward the guard slowly. The guard began to plead for his life. He said, “Please don’t kill me. I didn’t see anything. I just had a son, please don’t kill me.” Spear lifted up his right hand to attack, but just then Ice landed on him and stabbed two huge tranquilizer needles in each side of his neck. Spear knocked him back through the double doors, leaving a crater in the wall. He then moved quickly and grabbed up Black Ice by the neck and held him against the wall.

Ice said, “What are you doing?” He lifted up his visor and said, “It’s me Dean. Remember man remember. This isn’t like you.” He could see that this wasn’t the same Nick he went to school and trained with. He then said, “Is this part of your promise?” Spears look of rage began to subside. Ice continued and said, “Yeah, the promise you told me you made to the innocent people. The promise you made to my brother, the promise you made to me—” Spear began to lower Ice.

Ice said, “You gotta fight it. This isn’t you. It’s the animal adrenaline you took. It wasn’t meant to be taken straight by anybody. You’re not a killer, you’re a protector. So I need you to suck it up, fight that animal instinct, and get back to normal!” The tranquilizer began to kick in and Spear started shrinking back to normal. He let go of Ice and fell to his knees.

Spear looked at Ice and asked, “What happened?” Ice pulled back down his visor and grabbed Spear. He looked at the guy and said, “Sorry, but I’m going to need you to forget this.” He then pulled out a small tranquilizer gun and shot the guy.

Spear mumbled, “What are you doing?” Ice said, “Don’t worry, it’s just so he forgets the last couple of hours. He’ll wake up with a slight hangover at the most.” He then aimed at the ceiling between the steps and fired a grapple. It then pulled them to the floor for them to exit. At that time Spear passed out. He got Spear a good distance from the area. His little brother Von was waiting in a car. Ice pushed Nick in the car and told Von, “Get him out of here. Don’t stop till you get home.” You could hear the firetrucks and ambulances in the distance.

Nick still drugged came to, saw he was wearing his regular clothes and asked, “Wait, how did I get in these clothes?” Ice, embarrassed, said, “Don’t worry about that, your clothes are in the trunk in the spare tire area . . . Oh, and Nick, we’re even.” He then closed the door and patted the top of the car. Nick wound down the window and said, “Hey, Ice.”

  Ice replied, “Yeah.”

Nick said, “Am I still a class D?”

Ice chuckled and said, “You’re stupid. Yea you’re a D as in dumb for stabbing yourself with my adrenaline. I’ve been modified to handle it. You weren’t. Von, get him out of here.” Von drove off, and Ice went back to the area to inform his superior that the escapees had been obtained all but the one called Crank. He had snuck away in the chaos.

  BULLETPROOF BLACK ICE JACK 2.0

  Chapter 13

  You Don’t Know Jack

This story started out in South Africa in the Kingdom of Lesotho. The ambassador was scheduled to make an announcement in the center of the town. A man named Jack Dingo was driving up a cliff about a mile from the center of town. He’s listening to the song “Kryptonite” by 3 Doors Down. He’s a muscular man wearing a crocodile hat along with a crocodile vest, blue jeans, and crocodile boots. When he got to the top of the cliff, he got out of his Jeep and took out a suitcase. He opened the suitcase at the edge of the cliff and began to assemble a sniper rifle while bobbing he head to the song playing in the background. After assembling the rifle, he put it on the ground then lay down and looked through the scope as he aimed it at the location where the ambassador was supposed to make his speech. He pulled back the latch, getting the gun ready to be fired. He looked at his watch then looked back through the scope.

He lifted up his chain with dog tags and crocodile teeth attached to it and kissed it for good luck before he said in an Australian accent, “All right mate, now come on out so I can make me money.”

The crowd started making a commotion as the ambassador came out with his guards and began to walk toward the podium. The man looking through the scope and was getting ready to take the shot when out of nowhere trucks and helicopters filled with the authorities surrounded him.

On the speaker a voice yelled, “You are under arrest, Mr. Jack Dingo.” Jack turned his head and saw that there was no escape. He gently puts the gun down then rose to his feet. He then raised his hands and said, “Hey, calm down. I was only doing a bit of bird watching.”

About twenty men jumped out of the trucks and surrounded Jack with guns pointed directly at him. His head was covered withred dots from the snipers’ guns from the helicopters and the one dot on his crotch area.

Jack looked down and saw the dot on his crotch; he then looked up at the men pointing the gun directly in his face and said, “Come on, mate, is that really necessary? Me crotch didn’t do anything to y’all now, did it?”

A general wearing a highly decorated military uniform got out of the truck and said, “Jack Dingo, you are a hard man to find. I was starting to believe you didn’t exist. You’re wanted in about twenty different countries linked to who knows how many killings and assassinations.”

The general turned to the truck and said, “Tell the ambassador everything is under control thanks to his cooperation. He can relax now and go.”

Jack said, “So all this was just a trap to get
li’l old me.” The general said, “Unfortunately for you, yes. It took us months to get your whereabouts, and even then, it wasn’t exact. All we knew was that you’re one of the top mercenaries in the world.” Jack interrupted and said in his Australian accent, “Correction, I amthe top mercenary in the world.” The general continued and said, “Regardless of what you think, you’ve still been caught. All thanks to the cooperation from all the countries that put this operation together and to the ambassador for taking the risk and being the bait for your target.”
