But first, she needed to figure out a way to tell Jessica all about the week she’d had—because her phone was ringing impatiently, waiting for her to answer as she pulled out of the parking lot and headed for home.

“You did what?”
Explaining the dead flowers had been one thing, but explaining Jordan Hughes was another. Jessica hadn’t sounded too upset at the news of the flowers, especially when Kate told her that the shop had doubled last year in sales. She was upset that her best friend had become close to her competition. In a way, Kate couldn’t blame her, but they were all adults, and no matter what, it was Kate’s life to do what she wanted with it—no offense to Jessica.
“I find it ironic,” Jessica said, sarcasm sharp in her voice. “Someone who doesn’t believe in the mushiness and Valentine’s Day, possibly found someone she clicks with and finds attractive on Valentine’s Day? Gag me!”
Laughing at Jessica’s overdramatic act, Kate said, “I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Pulling up in front of her house, she parked her car and said, “Jessica, he’s a really sweet guy.”
“I’m sure he is,” she said, sarcastically, once again. “I do appreciate what he did for Thistle Do, but I’m not sure I want my best friend dating him.”
“I’m telling you, he’s not a bad guy,” Kate pleaded. “Tell me how you really feel.”
“How I feel? I feel like you’ve been struck by Cupid’s arrow and this will pass,” Jessica explained.
“And if it doesn’t?”
“I’d get over it.”
That was good, because Kate couldn’t wait to see what happened next with Jordan Hughes.
