“Lady Fate dominated the hell outta both of us, didn’t she?” I ask with a wet snort, wrinkling my nose at him.
“Yeah,” Rhett says back with a surprised snort, his face mirroring the joy I feel. “She really did.”

“We have to go in,” Cameron says, his eyes on a giant stuffed dino. “Alexandria has been asking for a pet dinosaur. That would be absolutely perfect for her.”
“Cam,” I say as gently as I can. “We’re here to buy presents for the twins. And you’ve already bought Maxwell and Alexandria an abundance of things. Jace and River made me promise to keep an eye on you and make sure you don’t go overboard. Again.”
Cameron looks at me, and then the dino, and then back at me before pointing at something behind me. “Hey, look! What’s that over there?”
I turn around to look, not seeing anything and when I turn back towards him, he’s gone inside. I let out a long sigh, a wide smile on my face despite myself. I wander over to the middle of this section of stores, finding myself a bench to sit on a wait. Knowing Cameron, he’ll be in there for a while, picking out the very best gift for his kids and his nephews. I look around, finding not many people wandering around the mall. It’s the beginning of November and the Christmas shopping rush hasn’t started quite yet.
I lean back, taking in a deep breath. Something nags at the back of my mind, a smell I can’t quite catch no matter how much I sniff. I look around, my heart banging against my ribs. What could that be? Is there a new food stand in here?
I sit up straight, my body turning rigid. I uncross my legs, running my palms against my black skinny jeans as I look around in search of the smell that’s making my mouth water and my wolf stands up, raising her head right along with me.
There’s a pull in my belly that makes me stand. I follow my nose down the way. Every person in my family has found their mate, or in Cam’s case his mates. From what they’ve said, this pull I’m feeling is something bone deep, the scent I’m picking up isn’t only delicious but speaks to my very soul.
There’s a store front that’s closed because of construction and I stand in front of it, my mouth hanging open. I probably look like an idiot but I don’t care, not when I’m this close to finding him. I know without a doubt, my mate is here, my omega.
A whistle sounds through the mall and I look up, my eyes glaring daggers at the cat calling asshole. I open my mouth to shout at him but I pause, really taking him in. I like to think of myself as a mature alpha, one who doesn’t get led by their knot and hormones. But I’m a woman with eyes and I can’t deny the man sitting on the beam overhead is hot.
His feet dangle and kick, his eyes bright as he looks down at me. I cross my arms over my chest, my leather jacket tightening around my shoulders. I watch as his cheeks turn a delightful pink color under his sandy beard. His shoulders are wide, his chest buff, his thighs strong. Fuck, he’s exactly my type and I feel my belly quiver with lust.
“Why don’t you come down here and tell me how pretty I am to my face instead of whistling at me like a dog?”
I watch as he does just that, crawling down from his station with ease and strength. His arms flex as he moves and images of this man manhandling me fill my head. Easy girl, I think to myself.
When he’s finally in front of me, my face breaks out into a wide smile, my chest singing with delight. I take a deep breath, finally getting his spicy sawdust scent fully. “You’re my mate,” I say, feeling kinda dumb as soon as the words are out because duh, I’m sure he’s figured that out as well.
Instead of chastising me, he smiles and the sight makes my knees a little weak. That pull in my belly only intensifies, drawing us closer and closer together. He’s over a head taller than me and I have to look up to really gaze into his pretty green eyes. My breath holds as I lean up on my tip toes, our lips drawing closer and closer together.
“Hey, Grayson! Get back to work, you slacker!” someone calls from the construction site and we jump away from each other, our cheeks burning from being caught.
“I’m staying in a hotel really close to here,” he says, his voice deep and mesmerizing. It grips me tight and demands my attention.
“Give me the address I tell him. I’ll be there.”

About the Author
Toby Wise is a stay at home parent who hails from a small town in Wisconsin. They grew up loving to write but fell away from their passion once they became an adult. Thankfully, the world of fanfiction drew them back, forcing them to write about a pair of idiots falling in love (and sometimes engaging in acts of debauchery). As they started up their journey of writing once more, they realized there were a plethora of characters in their head that needed their story told, birthing ‘A Collection of Strays’.
When Toby isn’t writing fanfiction or original books, they’re likely chugging coffee and shaking their head at their kiddo.
