Dean bust out laughing and the more we think about it, the funnier it becomes. My eyes get blurry as tears form in them from laughing so hard. Dean holds his stomach. “Stop! You’re killing me here.”
We finally stop laughing and Dean sighs. “We couldn’t have a girl though. Could you imagine a little sassy toddler Caroline. I don’t think I could handle that much attitude.”
I slap at his arm. “Oh please. Pretty sure that’s what you like most about me.”
Dean just grins at me. I lean back into his embrace and we just lay like that enjoying each other. I don’t know what the future for me and Dean holds, but right at this moment all is as it should be.
Epilogue
1 Year Later
Ally answers the door to her apartment and pulls me into a huge hug. “Happy Birthday!”
She grabs my hand and pulls me into her apartment. “I know we're celebrating this weekend, but I thought I could still give you your gift today.”
Since my birthday is on a Wednesday this year, I told Ally we should just all go out this weekend instead and just me and Dean are going out to dinner tonight. Ally of course protested and said she could handle weeknight drinks, but I figured it’d be more fun if we wait.
She pulls me into the living room where a present is sitting on the coffee table. She hands it to me as she asks “So what are you and Dean doing tonight?”
I came over to Ally’s before Dean got home from work today so she could help me get ready.
“I’m not sure yet. Dean said it’s a surprise. I told him I wanted him to wear one of his suits though.” I wiggle my eyebrows at Ally. She laughs and fans herself. “Phew! That man sure does know how to wear a suit!” We both burst into a fit of giggles like we are back in middle school talking about our crushes.
I open Ally’s gift. It’s some fancy boutique sunglasses she probably got for pennies on the dollar with her firm. I gave Ally a hug. “Thanks. I’ve never had sunglasses that cost more than ten dollars.” She laughs “I know! I was there when you picked out your last pair at the grocery store. The grocery store!”
I laugh. “Hey those were pretty good ones though.”
She shrugs. “I guess they weren’t bad.”
She starts walking toward her room and I follow. “So did Dean give you his present yet?”
We walk into her room, and she motions for me to sit at her vanity so she can start on my hair.
I smile and blush thinking about how Dean woke me up this morning. I was still halfway dreaming when I felt his mouth sucking on my nipples. I grumbled and stirred a little, still not fully awake. “What are you doing?”
He continued to circle my nipple with his tongue when his deep sexy voice softly whispered. “Good morning beautiful. Happy birthday.”
His tongue trailed down my body, and then he began placing soft kisses all over my thighs. He was so gentle that I felt like I was still in a dream. When his tongue finally plunged into me, my whole body came alive and suddenly I was wide awake.
I swear he kept getting me so close to the edge so many times and always knew just when to pull away so I wouldn’t fall over the edge. It eventually became too much to bear and I took his head in my hands and shoved his face into my pussy, and I ground on his tongue harder than ever before. It was one of the best orgasms of my entire life.
When I finished, I pushed Dean back onto his back to return the favor. He protested and said I didn’t have to since it was my birthday, but I just told him you can’t tell the birthday girl no. Let’s just say Dean went off to work today with a little more pep in his step than usual.
I snap back to the present and look up at Ally. “He said he’d give it to me tonight at dinner.”
“Ooo fancy. I bet it’s jewelry! I feel like you can only bring jewelry gifts to dinner. Otherwise you’d have a huge birthday bag sitting on the table right in the way.” She pauses for a second. “Oh! I did tell him about that diamond leaf bracelet you loved. Oh I bet he got you one. You have to show me this weekend. It’ll go perfect with the dress we picked up!”
I laugh. “A little early to be planning my outfit when you don’t even know if he got that for me. Watch it be like a sweater.”
Ally cringes. “That man better not buy you a sweater.”
We both laugh, and then we spend the next hour figuring out our plan for this weekend and finishing my hair and makeup.
I put on the dress Ally got me from one of her trips. It is a tiny black dress that is low cut and very tight around my ass. There is lace along the low cut neckline and thin straps that expose my shoulders and collarbone. It’s not something I’d usually wear, but I figured I could be a little extra sexy for my birthday. Ally lets me borrow her red pumps. I walk out of the bathroom and give a little twirl. Ally whistles at me. “Damn girl! You look like sex on legs.”
We both laugh, and then the doorbell rings. I look at Ally. “Last second for touch ups. Am I missing anything?”
“No way you look perfect. You’re going to knock him dead.” I smile at her and head to the door.
I swing it open and Dean is standing there in one of his fitted suits with a huge smile on his face. Speaking of sex on legs. Damn.
Dean's eyes leave mine and start to drag down my body. It feels like it is taking an eternity with how slow his eyes are taking in every inch of me. When he finally looks back up at me, he just mutters. “Fuck.”
I smile at him, and he clears his throat. “I’m sorry I meant you uh...you look beautiful.”
I laugh. “Oh I’m sure that’s what you mean.”
I holler over to Ally that we are leaving and then we head out.
I get into Dean’s car and don’t notice any sweater sized gift boxes, so maybe Ally is right about it being the bracelet.
“So where are we going?”
Dean laughs. “You waited all day and now you want me to ruin the surprise right before we leave.”
I laugh back. “Well, now we’ve officially started celebrating, so you aren’t ruining it anymore you are just doing the surprise.”
“Nice try babe. No clues.”
I relent “Fine. At least tell me how far away. I’m starting to get hungry.”
Dean rolls his eyes. “Of course you are. It’s probably twenty minutes away. You’ll survive.”
Dean is oddly quiet the rest of the drive. Maybe he just doesn’t want to give away where we're going. I reach for his hand to hold it while we drive, and it feels sweaty like he’s nervous. I look over to him. “Is everything okay?”
He nods. “Yeah, everything is perfect. I’m just trying to think if I remembered everything I wanted to do for you tonight.”
I laugh. “Everything? Just how many surprises am I in store for tonight?” Before he can answer I add on. “Although, if all the surprises are as good as this morning, then I’ll take as many as I can get.” I wink at him.
He smiles at me, and I look out and notice we are in a familiar area. All of a sudden it clicks where we are. I gasp and turn to Dean. “Are you taking me to Charlie’s?”
Dean smiles bigger. “I said no hints.”
A few minutes later though we pull into the lot, and I get out of the car. “This is not exactly the fancy dinner I was expecting.”
Dean laughs. “I didn’t really think that was your style.”
Just then he opens my door and reaches in his glove box and pulls out a birthday crown. “Here.” He says as he places it on my head. I smile so big up at him. “This is perfect.” I get up on my tiptoes and press my lips to his.
“C’mon.” He grabs my hand and starts pulling me toward the bar. “I have a few more surprises up my sleeve.”
I let out a giddy squeal and follow him in.
The bar is pretty empty since it’s a Wednesday night, but sitting right in the same two spots where we met are little reserved plaques. I laugh when I see them. “Good thing you called ahead. We might not have been able to get these seats.”
Dean laughs.
I probably could have gotten us in. I know the owner.” He winks.
We take a seat and the bartender brings out some wings. “Your favorite, remember?”
I laugh. “Hey, they actually are pretty good. I didn’t completely make that up.”
We eat and drink and laugh and I’m so glad Dean went this route instead of some fancy restaurant. We finished our food a while ago and are just sipping on our drinks. I look up at Dean over my glass. “So where’s my present?”
Dean laughs. “Eager are we?”
I shrug. “I just didn’t see you bring anything in. It made me curious.”
Dean smiles and nods toward the hall. “I have it in the back.”
I raise my eyebrows at him and place my hand over my heart in mock surprise. “My my, are you asking me to go to the back of this bar with you?”
Dean scans his eyes over my body and bites his bottom lip between his teeth. “Definitely.”
I get up and grab Dean’s hand, practically dragging him to the back. When he goes to unlock the back office door, I push him against the door and press my mouth to his. I use his tie to pull him closer to me. Dean groans and then turns me around so my back is to the door. He kisses along my neck and shoulder as he uses the keys to unlock the door.
We fall into the little office and everything looks pretty much the same. My eyes look to the pinball machine, and I walk over to it and look over my shoulder. “Oh I see. You were hoping to help me finish my fantasy here.” I hop up on the machine and spread my legs open so he can see right up my dress to my red lacy panties. Dean’s eyes obviously fall right there and he groans as he walks over to me.
His hands land on the bare skin of my thighs and his lips whisper along my neck. When he gets to my ear, he lets out a harsh grumble. “Not yet.” He pulls me down and turns me around so I am facing the machine. He presses close to me and I can feel his erection digging into my ass. “You have to play first.”
I smile and reach back to grab a quarter out of Dean’s pocket, but he swats my hand away and pulls one out himself and puts it in the machine. The way Dean is rubbing his hands along my waist has me distracted, so I am not doing very good. Dean lets out a small laugh when I go to pull the lever for the last ball. “You haven’t gotten much better.”
I shove my elbow back softly into his abs. “Hey! You’re distracting me. It doesn’t count.”
Dean just smiles against my shoulder and then places a gentle kiss there. “Mhmm sure Care. Whatever you say.”
When the last ball falls through the flippers, the machine suddenly starts dinging like we got a new highscore. I look up to the digital display to see what’s going on. Maybe Derek reset it and we’re the first ones to play.
I see the red letters scrolling across the display where it usually shows the high scores, except instead of saying the names and scores of players, the words “Marry me Caroline” keep flashing across. It takes me a second to process what is happening, but then I turn to Dean and he’s getting down on his knee pulling something out of his pocket.
I stare down at him with my mouth hanging open. “Dean?”
Dean opens the box and a huge princess cut diamond ring is sparkling back at me. Holy shit! Then I say it again out loud. “Holy shit!”
Dean laughs. “Caroline, I was trying to have a serious moment here.”
“Yes!”
Dean looks up at me surprised. “I didn’t even get to sa-.”
“Yes!” I cut him off and go down on my own knees to kiss him.
He pulls back from my mouth for a moment. “Well, that was a lot easier than I was expecting.”
I laugh and then kiss him some more. “I love you.”
Dean leans his head against mine and whispers back. “I love you too. I can’t wait until you’re my wife.”
When he says the word wife it hits me. “Holy shit we're getting married!”
Dean laughs. “Yeah you just agreed to it without even hearing my speech.”
I laugh. “Save the speech for after sex tonight. Sounds like it’ll be a good cuddle time conversation.”
Dean laughs. “So does this mean you’ll finally move your stuff into my room?”
I laugh. After me and Dean got together, I decided to stay living at his place, but I was adamant I still had a separate room so that we weren’t technically living together even though I spent most nights in his bed.
I pretend to think about it. “Well, technically you aren’t my husband yet.” I run my fingers through his hair and start placing kisses along his jaw. Dean’s eyes close and he groans. “Say it again.”
“What?” I look up at him. “That you’re going to be my husband?”
“Yes.” He groans. “That sounds so hot coming out of your mouth.”
Seconds later I am on top of the pinball machine and let’s just say we fully broke it in this time.
When we walk out of the office and back through the bar, I feel like everyone knows what happened back there, but I am too happy to care.
When we get back in the car, I gasp. “I have to call Ally! She thought you were getting me a bracelet.” I laugh.
I pull out my phone and go to video call her. She answers right away. “Dang, you couldn’t even wait until Friday to show me the bracelet?” I can tell I am grinning like an idiot and I just shake my head no. “Alrighty now. Let’s see it.”
I turn the camera around but instead of showing her my new bracelet that I never got, I hold out my hand and show her the huge rock on my finger.
There is silence for a moment and then “Holy fucking shit! Is that what I think it is?”
I turn the camera around again so she can see me and Dean. “We’re engaged!”
Ally squeals and we both scream excitedly for a moment. Then Ally is crying. “Oh, my little baby is all grown up.” Of course then I start crying. After a few seconds Dean pipes up. “Alright ladies that’s enough. This is supposed to be a happy occasion.” We all laugh.
Then suddenly Ally screams out. “Oh my god! Please tell me you haven't told anyone else yet.”
“You’re the first one, why?”
Ally smirks. “Well, I do think I remember you promised me when you and Dean got married one day, I’d be the one to get to tell Brian you are going to be his stepmommy.”
We all laugh. We talk for a few more minutes, and then I hang up the phone. I look over to Dean and smile. Even though our story started so complicated, I wouldn’t change it for the world. Yeah, so it’s a little weird I’m technically going to be my ex boyfriend's stepmom, but I love our little family and all its weirdness. Dean keeps glancing my way, so I ask, “What are you thinking about?”
Dean gives me one of his devilish smirks. “Just how much I want to rip that dress off you when we get back.” I bite my lip and smile back at him. Oh yeah. This is going to be one good life.
