  To my Pappy.

For all the years on the force you spent working and all the ones after where you spent it in the field. I’ll always remember the lessons you taught me in life.

  Acknowledgments

My Pappy – He didn’t know I was writing until recently. I wanted him to be proud of me for something I’ve achieved. Growing up, he taught me to be a strong person, and no matter how many times we’d butt heads, I knew he always stood in my corner. I will always be his blondie and remember the good times rather than the bad.

My Husband – For years, he’s worked himself to death to give our family everything we needed or wanted. He encourages me every day to follow my dreams just like he did the day he told me to take the chance. He’s my best friend, and I wouldn’t know what to do without him. Or the fact he listens to my non-stop rambling or my always having a notepad with me in case I need to write something down that pops into my head.

My Three Kiddos – Every day, I watch them grow up into little peo
ple who want to take over the world. Well, in their own way, that is. They are inspirations all by themselves. They love to find out what I’m working on and give me ideas. One of my favorite things is to ask them what I should have someone do or how they should act. Some of their ideas are wicked.

My Alphas – You guys rock big time! Thank you all for being the first to read the stories as they come alive. It means the world to me. Especially when you all start to get mad. That’s when I know I’m doing something right. And in doing so, pushing me to keep going with all the different plots that form in my head. I’m thankful to you all for being ready and willing to read and give your input.

My Knox Publishing People – Thank you guys for being such great people to work with.

Liz – My sister from another mister, my best friend, and Publisher/Boss/Co-Writer extraordinaire. You’re my go-to when I need it. I love working with you on all that we do. No matter how much chaos we go through to get it done.

Diane – If not for you, I swear I would lose my head. You set me straight when I don’t know which way to look. Thank you for everything you do in being the best PA I could ask for. However, you’re also one amazing friend.

My Editing/Plotting Team – Thank you all for working with me. I truly do enjoy working alongside you all as I bring each and every book to life. I don’t know what I would do without each and every one of you to help me when I need it most.

  Prologue

  Reaper

Stepping into Keeper’s Pub, a bar the club owns, I scan through the crowd spotting my brothers, Angel, Daemon, and Tombstone sitting at the table in the corner reserved for members of our club.

I stalk through the crowded room, making my way to my brothers. It’s been a long week, and I’m more than ready to drink, find a woman to fuck, and spend the night fuckin’ said woman blind. To say the week was more than just long is an understatement. It was shitty.

They’d only just gotten back from a run down to Louisiana. They were taking Daemon’s baby momma’s best friend, Rissa’s, stuff down to her. When it comes to Lana, no one has a problem with helping her, considering she’s cool as shit. Unlike some of the bitches I know, she doesn’t give Daemon shit. This probably has to do with the fact the woman prefers women to men.

“Hey Prez,” Angel, my VP and blood brother, greets me as I step up to their table.

“Long day?” Tombstone asks while I pull a chair out, flip it around, and straddle it.

“You could say that,” I grunt, scanning the area looking for a waitress to signal for her to bring me a beer. Spotting Bristol and Ace working the floor, I catch Bristol’s eyes. She smiles and gives me a nod, already knowing what I want. We have a rule at the club, never stick our cocks in the bitches who work for us. With this rule, we keep some damn good waitresses in this bar. Bristol, Ace, Saylor, and Malia are all good at their jobs and work hard to keep them. We always have a prospect working security here.

Bristol brings me a draft in a chilled mug, and I give her a jerk of my chin in thanks. Without a word, she goes back to taking care of other customers.

“So, how did it go?” I ask, lifting the mug to my lips and taking in a long pull of the cold brew. It’s a Satan’s Keepers special that we created ourselves.

“Yeah, Rissa’s doing good. Tyres is treating her right,” Daemon informs me.

“Good.” I nod. Rissa deserves only the best. The night Lana had called Daemon upset about Rissa being harmed is one that will forever be burned into my brain. Lana had gone over there to pick up something for Rissa’s son, Ike, and found something else entirely. When we got to Rissa’s, we found Lana trembling, holding a gun in her hand, and bullet holes in the wall of Rissa’s bedroom. Lana was scared out of her mind. She didn’t even move further into the room. Just held the gun at the ready for anyone coming after her or Rissa.

Lana never did tell us the full story. I think she probably blocked out some of it. Either way, Rissa went to live with Tombstone, and I swear it’s as if she were a completely different woman after that. She became a recluse, barely leaving Tombstone’s place unless she had no other choice.

“Think Rissa and Ike are definitely where they’re supposed to be. Ike is the spitting image of his ol’ man,” Tombstone shares.

I don’t doubt that. I’ve met Tyres on more than one occasion. How I didn’t see the similarities before is beyond me.

“I think you just miss having Rissa and Ike in your house,” Angel comments.

“Fuck you, love the girl to death, but she ain’t my type. Shit, I don’t even have one anymore,” Tombstone grunts.

“You know you’re allowed to move on,” Angel pushes. Years ago, we lost not only our mom but both of our sisters, just at different times. We had Darcy, Ember’s mom, with us thirteen more years than we had Ronaele, who died when Bethany was a baby. This made Tombstone make a decision that hurt all of us but was for the best at the time. He sent my niece to live with his bitch of a sister and her husband. Thankfully Bethany now knows the truth. Tombstone’s sister took her in only after Tombstone agreed to keep the fact, he’s her biological father a secret. He wasn’t to have an active role in my niece’s life. I wish I could have talked him out of it, but after losing Ronaele, my brother did what he felt he had to do.

  “Don’t start with me. I’m fine w
ith the way things are,” Tombstone sneers. “Either of you talk to Ember lately?” he asks, changing the subject before the two of them take their fists to each other.

“No, why? Is she okay?” Angel asks.

None of us had wanted her to move away from us, but she seems to be happy with being at school in New York. But she’s eighteen and needed the freedom to do as she wanted with her life. I can’t deny her that. She will always be our princess, even if she’s now moved on to bigger and better things. At least I know the kid she’s dating will take care of her since he already is.
