The Vatican first tried to deny the validity of the information contained in the commercially released Eysens. But once the consumer version came preloaded with the Akashic app and everyone was able to access the truth; Clastier’s Divination about the end of the Catholic Church proved to be as accurate as all of his other prophesies and Rome fell quickly.
It wasn’t just the proof of human origin that buried the Church. The clarity and meaning portrayed in the Eysens showed how the weight of religious trappings had held the world back. With the spotlight on the Vatican, one issue after another erupted: major financial scandals, widening sex abuse, the existence of the Vatican Secret Service. Then an anonymous organization leaked millions of pages of documents over the Internet. They detailed Church atrocities dating back centuries, and specifically highlighted World War II through the present day. Investigations were launched resulting in a stunning, and previously unthinkable event; when the remaining Vatican archives were raided by a joint committee of twelve nations and Church assets were seized around the globe.
Booker worked tirelessly to recover some of the hidden Vatican treasures and archives, with little luck. For years, Church leaders had been preparing for the end and they’d had weeks to implement their final plans. He was able to intercept the “Asheville” casing that Vatican agents had taken, along with the original Clastier Papers, and he turned it over to the scientific community for study. Many disputed the age, claiming Gaines had brought it to Virginia from a much more recent site in South America, but plenty of others sided with him.
Behind the scenes, Booker was also instrumental in navigating the many legal obstacles involved in testing the U.S. Forest Service site where Rip had found the Eysen. With new testing equipment, the cliff had been conclusively dated to be 10.8 million years old, but even with the latest techniques available; the exact age of the casing could not be determined.
Attorney General Dover resigned and the FBI Director was appointed to replace him. Special Agent Dixon Barbeau recovered from his wounds, quit the Bureau, and become a freelance investigator, for a single client, DIRT. He was successful in bringing charges that resulted in the prosecution of the priest who molested his grandson. Barbeau had also begun reconciling with his daughter.
Booker himself had too much influence to be arrested, but the threat of assassination followed him, and he rarely stayed anywhere for more than a few days at a time. His mystery and wealth continued to grow.
“Taking a page from the NSA’s playbook and faking our deaths was what saved us, but it’s not without a price,” Rip said to Gale.
“I know. But Booker thinks that by next spring, it may be safe to meet my parents. He’ll have someone contact them and arrange for a vacation in Mexico. Then he’ll have BLAX sneak them out of the country and I can see them briefly in Cuba. Grinley’s still living there, you know?”
“That’ll be quite a shock for your parents to learn you’re actually alive.”
She looked over at Kruse and Harmer; they’d become good friends, as the agents were always there, on guard, and acting as a conduit for all the intel AX collected. The island was beautiful. They had all they needed, but sometimes it was small. They hoped it would only be for a couple more years.
The explorations into the Eysen were never-ending. Rip had discovered two other civilizations that had risen and vanished, long before “modern” humans appeared. It was overwhelming to be able to see and know everything, something the consumer Eysens couldn’t do yet, but Booker was promising regular upgrades. The world was hungry for Eysen 2.0.
Gale had spent months working on the Clastier Papers; editing the originals, as well as missing pages, that had surfaced, including the Inspirations, and even excerpting some of his letters to Flora, and her notes about the ones to Padre Romero. Soon they would be ready for release, for now she was planning to leave out the remaining Divinations, including the sixth one. They were still looking for ways to stop, or at least change them. “The only hope for the future,” Rip said many times, “is locked in the past.” But time was ticking away.
The void created by Catholicism’s collapse, along with other mystical events, seemingly brought about by people’s exposure to the Eysens and Booker’s Universal Quantum Physics research, a languishing group called the Inner Movement had suddenly grown more popular. Booker disagreed with Rip on one major point saying, “The only hope for the future is locked within each of us.”
