  Destination detected, the ship said.

  In its last moments of consciousness, the creature saw a cream and red palace, with turrets galleries and grand gatewaysglowing gold as it was lit by thousands of individual lights, and beyond the walls in the gardens, half a dozen prey animals, each in its own shelter, chained and immobilized.

  As it watched, one creature stamped, kicked, threw pack its head and trumpeted at the moon.

  “Still lively, good.” it said with satisfaction. “When I am healed we will return here.”
