But as understanding as he was, I feared it was only a matter of time before he’d be frustrated by our inability to move forward in any serious way. I didn’t want Isabelle to lose out on that chance, even if I denied myself. But to lose my V-card while not in control of myself… that wasn’t going to happen anytime soon.
So instead, Mikah put his arm around us. Oggie’s aspect had given him a connection to earthen elementals, something that gave him a unique kind of strength. It was oddly comforting. I allowed Isabelle to nuzzle our head into his chest as we saw Luke Skywalker’s aunt and uncle get ousted by stormtroopers—a scene that, for the first time, hit home with me in a way it never had before. It was a tragedy… for Luke, and for me. And out of tragedy it sent him on a path where he could utilize the “force,” and wield a pretty badass light saber. Again, I couldn’t help but note the parallels between his life and mine. Only in the end, Luke finds out that Vader was his father—sorry if I spoiled it for you. My nemesis, though, had once been my best friend—even if only for a short time. And I had no idea if Pauli was still there. Nico’s spirit was supposed to be released when the Baron was going to possess his body. But would Kalfu allow Pauli to be at peace? Not likely.
I tried to push the thoughts outside of my mind as Isabelle snuggled up with Mikah, taking a deep whiff of whatever cologne he was wearing. The stuff smelled like what a grandpa might wear—but Isabelle was an old-fashioned girl.
And in a strange way… I found it comforting.

Reviews are the most powerful tools in my arsenal when it comes to getting attention for my books. Much as I’d love to, I don’t have the financial muscle of one of New York’s big-five publishers. I can’t take out full page ads in the newspaper, or put up posters at the major bookstores.
(Not yet, anyway!)
But I do have something much more powerful and effective than that, and it’s something that those publishers would kill to get their hands on!
A dedicated and committed bunch of readers!
Honest reviews of my books help bring them to the attention of other readers.
If you’ve enjoyed this book I would be eternally grateful if you could spend just a few minutes leaving a review (it can be a short as you like) on the book’s Amazon page. You can jump right to the page by using the link below.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Theophilus Monroe is a fantasy author with a knack for real-life characters whose supernatural experiences speak to the pangs of ordinary life. After earning his Ph.D. in Theology, he decided that academic treatises that no one will read (beyond other academics) was a dull way to spend his life. So, he began using his background in religious studies to create new worlds and forms of magic–informed by religious myths, ancient and modern–that would intrigue readers, inspire imaginations, and speak to real-world problems in fantastical ways.
When Theophilus isn’t exploring one of his fantasy lands, he is probably playing with one of his three sons, or pumping iron in his home-gym, which is currently located in a 40-foot shipping container.
He makes his on-line home at www.theophilusmonroe.com. He loves answering reader questions—feel free to e-mail him at [email protected] if the mood strikes you!
