“Nephew or not, you need to redeem yourself. Standing around on the sidewalk, shooting off your mouth so that little bitch Pepper St. Claire could hear you? What the fuck is the matter with you?”
“I…I….” He shifts from foot to foot.
I hold up a hand to stay him from giving me some pathetic excuse we’ll both regret. He may be my sister’s son, but she coddled him. I won’t. He needs to toughen the fuck up. Become a man.
“Save your breath. I don’t give a shit.”
Taking a long drag off my expensive Cuban cigar, I welcome the burn in my lungs. After a few tense seconds, I blow a puff of smoke out, hitting Angelo in his impertinent face. He stands there and takes it, clamping his mouth shut against the curse I know he itches to shout in my face. He knows better than to give me any sass. Even though he’s blood, I could still snap his neck with my bare hands.
“How can I make it up to you?” His voice trembles under the weight of the question.
I wrinkle my brow in thought. Something’s been disturbing my sleep at night. And I don’t like it. “The head of the gaming commission is being forced into retirement. If you want to absolve yourself of the epic fuck up of running off Pepper St. Claire with your runaway blow hole, you’ll make sure that doesn’t happen.”
“How can I stop Monroe from retiring? I don’t come close to having that kind of power.”
I lean back in my chair and fold my hands over my stomach as if I’m praying. But I’m not. The only God that rules over my kingdom is me. And heaven looks exactly like the Mona Lisa. I’ve got my biscotti, my Moscato, my dipshit lackey ready to jump to do my bidding at the crook of my nefarious finger. The only thing missing right now is a whore kneeling between my legs from underneath my desk.
I’ll remedy that right fucking now. Punching a button on my phone, I beep my new assistant.
“Yes, Mr. Giovanetti?” Her sex kitten voice flows over me like caramel.
“Jill, as soon as you see Angelo’s ass leaving, get in here. I need you for something important.”
“Sure thing.” She’s so ripe for the plucking. And with the amount of money I pay her, she’ll suck me off without so much as a protest.
I spear Angelo with a lethal glare that causes most grown men to pale with fear.
“You’ll figure it out.”
