All of this was contingent on Jayson wanting me to be there. Thankfully he didn’t argue when I told him that I would be driving him home instead of Percy. Percy had been by to visit, cooing over his new nephew and then handing him back to Jayson. Jayson talked with him briefly about making sure that the house was ready for our arrival. Percy assured me that he had everything well in hand. He’d have the place cleaned, and all the gifts of food and flowers put away. Plus, dinner on the stove when we arrived. He was a good friend, a great one, and I was thankful that Jayson had him.
Jayson rode in the back of his car next to the securely installed car seat as I drove us home. He didn’t stop staring at his beautiful son. Our beautiful son, if I had anything to say about it.
I couldn’t blame him. The boy was beautiful. He looked very much like his Omega dad.
I opened the door for him once we got home, then helped him inside. He carried in the car seat while I carried in the luggage and all the things we had somehow acquired at the hospital.
“He’s still sleeping,” Jayson said.
I grinned as we both looked down at the baby asleep in the car seat. “He’s had a big couple of days. He’s tired.”
Jayson laughed. “Me too.”
“Well, let’s get him out. We can get him settled in that bassinet. Then you can lie down on the couch. Are you hungry at all?”
Jayson shook his head. “No, I wouldn’t mind a little nap though. Might as well sleep now. I hear that these things don’t sleep for very long and you’re supposed to sleep when the baby sleeps.”
I chuckled. “I heard the same advice.”
Thankfully, Jayson seemed too tired to try and push me away or send me home. I wasn’t going to leave anyways, but I had been prepared with a speech just in case.
I unbuckled Matthew from the car seat and lifted him up, gently rocking him in my arms to make sure that he didn’t wake. Then, as carefully as I could, I placed him in the bassinet. I was reluctant to let him go. I found that I enjoyed just sitting with him in my arms. I’d held him quite a bit in the hospital while Jayson had slept. I could get used to this fatherhood thing.
“We might get lucky and have a really good sleeper on our hands,” I said as I stared down at Matthew. His little baby face was so captivating I found it hard to look away from him. I couldn’t believe that my Omega had done this amazing thing.
I turned to look at Jayson when he didn’t respond and found that he was fast asleep. Much like he had been the first night when I was there putting the swing together.
Since dinner was already taken care of and I didn’t want to move around and disrupt either the baby or Jayson, I curled up on the couch next to him and closed my eyes.
So this is what evenings with the family would be like. Amazing.
Chapter Ten
Jayson
I woke slowly to the sound of Tyler whispering. At first I thought he was speaking to me, but then I realized that I was alone on the couch and Tyler wasn’t anywhere near me. I lay there still for a moment as I awoke fully. Tyler’s voice reached my ears from across the room.
“And even though I’m not your biological daddy, I am going to love you forever. You are the most perfect, beautiful little child that I have ever seen. And I love your daddy very much, too. But we haven’t told him yet, because we don’t want to scare him.”
I opened my eyes and saw the most amazing sight. Tyler held my son in his arms. A bottle in his hand as he fed my son and rocked in the chair. He was smiling and talking with the baby. Matthew had his eyes open, staring wide eyed at the Alpha holding him.
I sat up slowly, the aches and pains from labor still present.
“Looks like your daddy is awake, little one,” Tyler said, never looking away from Matthew.
I grinned. “How long have I been asleep?”
“Not long,” he said. “Honestly, it’s probably only been an hour since we got home. This little guy started squeaking about thirty minutes after I laid down. We walked around for a while, but he liked being rocked the most. I didn’t want you to panic if you woke up and we weren’t in the room.”
“How’s he doing?” I asked.
“Great.”
“You look good like that,” I said. “You’re a natural.”
“Thanks,” Tyler said.
“Did you mean what you said to him?”
Tyler looked to me then. His eyes full of love and support. “Yes. I want to stay here. Be with you. Be a father to Matthew. Make more babies with you. We can tell him later, when he’s old enough to understand, about Brian, his biological dad. But I’d like to be with you and raise him as my own.”
Tears pooled at the corner of my eyes. “I want that, too,” I said. “More than anything. I got scared the other day. I wasn’t thinking straight. I was so worried that I’d become too reliant on you and then you’d be gone. It feels like it was a month ago, but it’s only been three days.”
“I know,” he said. “It—us—it’s not the best timing, but I love you and I’m not leaving you again.”
“I love you, too. Settling down in Millerstown? Think you can handle that?”
Tyler held out his hand and I took it. He tugged until I sat on his lap, me on one side with our son on the other.
“With you, I can handle anything.”
