“Yo, Mace.” The dude came through and answered.
“Weh she,” he asked.
“I-I do-don’t know. She didn’t come back yet,” the man replied.
“Find har or mi wi kill yuh whole fambly.” Ghost said and slammed his phone on the steering wheel. I had to put Jeremiah shit behind me. Somebody done fucked up in the worst way.
Beauty
I knew Mason wasn’t going to stay away. He came back that night pushing all my work aside to tell me how he felt. He sat on my bed and rotated his shoulders like he was about to go into a football game.
“Look, we been seeing each other for a couple of weeks now and I’m ready to move this relationship to the next level,” he told me. I stared at him and was shocked. I never thought that I was his type. The times that we were together made me feel like I was out of his league.
“Are you sure that I am what you want, Mason?” I was unsure of the whole situation. He grabbed my waist and pulled my body on top of his. I straddled his lap as he caressed my back.
“I have never been surer about anything in my life, Beauty. It is something in you that makes me want to be a better person, luv. You are exactly where I need to be,” he said and didn’t let me respond. The kiss that I was used to getting from him was nothing like the one that he gave me. He thrust his tongue in my mouth. I lost my pajama short and found his finger deep in my core. I moaned in the mouth that didn’t want to release me. He captured every moan and groaned that spiked the lust that been brewing between the two of us.
“Cum fi mi, Beauty,” he released my lips and told me. I didn’t know if it was his voice or the fact that I been masturbating to him every night that had my body reacting to his words.
“Mace,” I moaned and leaned my head on his shoulders. Mason laid me back. I closed my eyes at the pleasure that he caused.
“Wake up baby girl. Mi nuh dun wid yuh yet,” I heard him say. I opened my eyes to the most handsome man ever. His dreads were hanging out of his ponytail. He was sitting between my legs. Mason had tattoos on his chest of what looked like ghosts in the Jamaica colors. The ghost circled around an anchor that had his sister’s and mother’s name on it. He had another tattoo that almost scared the shit outta me. It was one of a skull that was covered in red smoke. The skull had curly hair and dark black eyes with a red dot in the middle of it.
“Wah yuh wa fi kno,” he mumbled. I didn’t want to destroy the mood with questions about his family. I opened my legs wider and bit down on my lip.
“Wah yuh nuh inside mi yet?” I asked. Mason growled and grabbed the massive weapon between his legs. He placed it at my opening and kissed my lips.
“Mi get yuh,” he said right before pushing his hard length inside of me. We both rode the waves of ecstasy the whole night. He got up in the morning to study with me before leaving out and promising me to come back later on that night and the rest of the nights after that. I was in class not paying attention to anything that my professor was saying. I couldn’t get the way that his body felt against mine. The anticipation of our lovemaking caused our first time to be rushed. After that, it was slow with a lot of touching, kissing, sucking, and all the other things that came to our mind. The deliciousness of him had me craving his ass throughout the night. He was surprised at how responsive I was to his touch. It turned him on more when he saw that my appetite was as big as his.
I got out of class with no notes. I was sure that I was going to do fine the next day. I wanted to get home to cook for Mason. I wanted him to come to the house to a home cook meal. I got to the door and heard whispering on the other side.
“I don’t fucking know. It didn’t go the way it was plan. They went to the meeting with Mason and another nigga. We gotta think of something else to get them by themselves. Together, they will be hard to kill,” I heard him say. I pressed my ear to the door to listen.
“You the one that fucked up though. You should have made sure that your people did their fucking job. Have you talked to them since? No. What the fuck do you mean no? I guarantee you that Mason and the rest of them are on their way, but that is going to give us the time we need to move in. I will call you when everything is in place.” Juice got off the phone. I inserted my key and opened the door. Juice was standing by the door with his keys in his hand. I slammed the door and stood in front of it.
“Wah yuh duh?” I asked him. Juice pushed me out the way and tried to open the door. I grabbed his arm and spun him around. Juice yanked his arm and pointed his finger in my face.
“Mind yuh bizniz an stay inna dem books. Dat a di ongle reason yuh ass out here,” Juice told me and tried to get out the door.
“Mi hear yuh sexy sup'm bout Mason, Juice. Yuh need fi tell mi waah gwaan,” I yelled to his back. Juice turned and got back in my face. Only that time, he pushed me against the wall, making me bump my head.
“Mi nuh need to tell yuh shit but it wi be inna yuh best interest to let him alone. Him nah be himself wen him comes back,” Juice said and left out the door. I didn’t know what was happening or what Juice was planning, but if Mason was as dangerous as Juice said he was, he was going to get killed by the man that I loved.
Truth
I remembered the day the feeling that I felt when I found my team dead. I was angry and in a fit of rage. Killing was what I needed to do to soothe the hungry beast that was inside of me. After snapping that prick’s neck in front of my CO, I was relieved then. I didn’t think that it was going to be the same after seeing Madison in the fucking bed hooked up to all those fucking tubes and shit. The pilot found her with the family of the daughter she saved. Madison was barely breathing and had to get to the hospital, asap. The pilot got back with us and told us what happened. The doctors weren’t able to take care of Madison the way she needed. We waited for the pilot to bring Madison to us with three doctors on the plane with her. Ghost paced and started talking under his breath.
“Mi kno it. Mi fuckin kno it. Mi should ave been there,” he said repeatedly. I couldn’t be there for the nigga because I was already over the edge. I saw red everywhere I turned. JoJo was blinded too, and that wasn’t good. I didn’t know how we all were going to overcome the incident.
When the plane landed, we all ran on it and saw the conditions that my heart was in. She looked frail. Ghost was staring down at her. The doctor was telling us that we needed to move quickly to the awaiting ambulance, but our feet weren’t moving. It took the pilot to get us out of our daze. The medics came and hooked Madison up to all type of shit. They placed her on the gurney carefully after being warned that their lives depended on it. They rushed her to the hospital with us following behind the ambulance. Seeing her like that did something to my soul, man.
I punched dents in Mason’s car, and he damn near ripped the steering wheel out of the car. We pulled up behind the ambulance and ran with the gurney all the way up until we were cut off. We were met at the door by my cousin’s sister Yelana. I didn’t understand why she was there because she was a pediatrician. Her husband Gilbert stepped forward and stood in front of us.
“I will do everything in my power to keep her alive,” he told us and for some reason that calmed us because we knew that his word was bond. He went into the double doors with Yelana. She promised us that she was going to come back out and keep us updated. We sat in the waiting room waiting for any news on Madison. The family began pouring in asking questions that we didn’t have the answers to. Ghost was already standing waiting for the results. When Jason walked in with Joel, the nigga went in pure beast mode.
Jason placed Joel behind him and matched his son stance. Ghost paced back and forward like a caged animal. There uncles had circled around the three of them to keep the outsiders out. Jason had to know how Mason was feeling. That was why he took careful steps to approach his son. Ghost tilted his head and smiled. Joel moved to stand on the side of Jason. His gaze switched to her. Joel was showing him the motherly side of her. He shook his head, but she ignored it. She walked up
to him and palmed his face. Ghost gave in and closed his eyes. The guilt was overwhelming. Jason took a step forward, and Ghost didn’t like that shit. He moved Joel out the way and went in on Jason.
“Dis a yuh fault. Eff mi wasn’t inna dis suit an tie, mi wudda been di fi har.” Ghost said while ripping the suit he had on, off. He took the tie and threw it at Jason's chest. Jason brushed that shit off and nodded his head with a frown on his face.
“Aight,” he said and moved forward. Joel got in the middle and held her hands up to diffused the situation.
“You two will not do this, while my baby in there fighting for her life,” she said to them. Joel got back in Ghost’s face and grabbed his shaking hand.
“Calm yuhself. Yuh wi nuh stand here as eff mi dawta dead. Yuh blaming di wrong person fi dis. It nuh yuh fada’s fault or fi yuh. Whoeva did dis shit out there now plotting gainst di fambly. Yuh wi sit dis shit aside an be there fi har.” Gage told her son. Ghost looked like he was on the fence about it. She snorted at him. Ghost shook his head and pointed at Jason.
“It a fi him fault, Mada,” he said. Gage moved out the way and motioned for him to go after Jason. Marley stepped forward, but Gage held her hand up to stop him.
“Stay outta it Marley,” she told him. Marley stopped and stood back with the rest of us. Jason stood waiting for Ghost to move forward. His dreads fell out of the ponytail holder when he was ripping his clothes off. The other people that were in the waiting room left. It was just our crazy ass family.
“You mad son and that is understandable. But, I am not the niggas that shivers when they hear your name. So, if you want to go down this road you better make sure that you packed all your shit to take with you because you won’t be able to come back from it,” Jason told Ghost.
Ghost didn’t care. He needed something or someone to act out on, and his father was giving him the opportunity. Ghost rotated his arms and was ready. I stepped forward, but a hand on my shoulder stopped me. I turned around and saw my parents standing behind me, with a sympathetic look. “Hey son,” Mom said. She wrapped her arms around my waist. Dad stared at me over her head. I knew that he was going to come after hearing what happened to his godchild.
Dad went to Jason side and tried to calm him down. Mom pulled me away from the situation. I talked to her the morning Madison left for her assignment. I told her that I tried to contact her while she was going, but she said that her husband didn’t give her the messages that I left. Mom told me that she was going to take care of things when she went home. She had meetings with my CO to discuss the events that occurred on my mission. Mom knew something was up and didn’t want anyone fucking over her baby. But, I wasn’t worried about that shit. I turned my attention to the double doors where Madison was.
“Truth,” Mom called out my name. I gave my attention to her briefly. She saw that I wasn’t losing my shit. “You love her, don’t you?” she asked.
“Yes I do,” I answered within a heartbeat. “I was supposed to tell her that when she got back,” I explained. Not knowing who did that to her, irked the fuck outta me. I opened and closed my fist tightly. I wasn’t aware of everyone else’s chaos going on around me. The chaos that I was harboring was ready to explode. My vision was blurry but not from tears. Fury and hate were the reasons. It was the feeling that Dad was waiting for me to unleash. The feeling that he couldn’t help me with. I heard my mother calling out my name. I pushed her out of my arms and walked around the group. I needed to check on my fucking girl.
“Truth,” Pops called. I ignored him and went to the doors. I raised my fist and started beating on the doors.
“Sir, you can’t go in there,” the nurse behind the desk yelled while standing on her feet. I spun around and frowned at her.
“What did you say?” I asked. The nurse eyes got wide, and she sat her ass down. But she fucked up. She addressed the wrong muthafucker, at the wrong fucking time. I began to approach her when my Dad jumped in front of me.
“Calm down, Truth,” Dad said with his hands up. I smirked at his ass and shook my head.
“You want me to calm down. Really?” I asked him. I didn’t understand why people would think that being calm in a situation like that was easy. It wasn’t.
“Son,” Dad tried again.
“Look. Now isn’t the fucking time, bruh. Move around and get the fuck away from me,” I told him. The nurse must’ve called security because three guys came running through the entrance doors. They looked in my direction and then to Ghost and Jason. They didn’t know what to do but touching any of us wasn’t going to work. Callum walked over to the security guards.
“We got this. Y’all move along,” he told them. They didn’t listen and tried to go around him. Kymel and Kymani block their advances.
“Do your family a favor and don’t interfere or they we will be sharing the waiting room with them,” Kymel said. That stopped them from moving forward. They took some steps back and stood in the room. I turned back into the door when Gilbert walked out and called the family ahead. Ghost and Jason stood at a standstill and stared at each other. Joel, back to herself, punched Ghost in his chest and pulled his arm. She looked over her shoulder and beckoned Jason. We all surrounded the doctor for the news that seemed like we were waiting on for forever.
“Scar,” Joel addressed. He looked at the family with no expression, which made it hard for any of us to bare.
“She is stable,” was the first words that he said. We all sighed with relief but I held back for his buts. There were always a but. “But, she has lost a lot of blood. It was surprising that the bullets didn’t hit any major organs or arteries. We are concerned about the wound to her back. We retrieved all the bullets from her body and with enough rest, she should be okay,” he told us. I let out a deep breath and leaned on the wall.
“Can we see her?” Joel asked.
“She is heavily sedated at the time. We can allow you guys back there but only two at a time and it can’t be for long,” Gilbert told everyone. Jason and Joel were going to be the first to visit her. They were walking to the door, and Jason stopped. Joel looked at him and frowned.
“What?” she questioned him. Jason looked back at Ghost and nodded his head. Ghost went forward and took Jason’s spot at Joel side. Jason popped Ghost on the back of his head before opening the door to let him through. It was good to hear that she was going to be fine, but that shit didn’t calm me. They went after my heart and spirit. I wasn’t going to rest until I found the muthafuckers that had anything to do it.
Everyone went in to see her and came out with murder in their eyes. I didn’t want to see her that way, but I knew that she needed to feel my presence there. I was the last to visit her. It was like walking the green mile. I got to her door and took a deep breath before entering it. I heard beeping noises as I walked in her room. There was a curtain pulled around her bed. I grabbed it and pulled it back. Madison was in bed hooked up to more shit than she was before. Her eyes were closed, but she had a scowl on her face. She wasn’t sleeping peacefully. I pulled up a chair and sat next to her bed. I took her hand and rubbed it.
“She can hear you, you know,” someone spoke behind me. “Lana told me that being unconscious didn’t stop everything else from working.” The soft voice of the woman traveled around the room. She walked on the other side and brushed a curl away from her head. My cousin leaned and kissed Madison on her forehead.
“That was what Marquel did with me when we got back together. He would whisper in my ear some stories about us and how much he loved me. It helped me regain my memory back. Madison may not have lost her memory, but it will be great for her to be reminded of the love she has from the family,” she said and looked over at me. “And you.” I kept my eyes on Madison as Lottie walked over and hugged me from behind.
“She will be okay, Truth. Madison is stronger than we all know. But she won’t be able to make a speedy recovery if you all dark and shit. You can’t help her in your fuckedupness. She needs you to b
e calm Truth. Be her peace, like she was yours when you needed her to be,” Lottie told me. I knew that Madison was harder than some of these niggas out here, but as her man, she didn’t need to be. I stood and hovered over her. She had the tubes in her mouth, which made it difficult for me to kiss her on the lips. I placed soft kisses all over her face until the scowl melted away.
“I love you, baby girl,” I whispered to her and planned on saying that shit every minute of the day when she woke up.

Mason
I hated seeing my sister like that. My better half had me crying like a whole female. When I felt the pain in the meeting, I didn’t want to believe that it was her being hurt. I stayed in her room for weeks without going to meetings or any other job. Everything was shut down until we found out who did this to my fucking sister. Beauty was calling me back to back, but I couldn’t talk to her. I knew that I was going to take my frustrations out on her. I didn’t want that to happen.
I felt my relationship with my Dad on a thin line. He really didn’t have anything to say to me. I was thinking clearly when I said that it was his fault because it was. If I wasn’t doing what he wanted me to do, I would have been there for my sister. They kept telling us that only two guests can visit at a time. We didn’t listen to those rules because there was no way that I was leaving the room, nor my parents. I already knew that Truth wasn’t going anywhere. He was sitting next to her talking about what they were going to do when she woke up. I didn’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but I knew my sister. She wasn’t waking up the same way.
Papa sent for the young lady that helped Madison to safety. She was a teenager that was about to become a slave to the Beans. None of us wanted to leave Madison alone, so Scar got us a bigger room where we all were able to be in. There was also a second bed in there for Mom and our Nanny Tyja. Our grandmother and T Glen came from Jamaica ready to raise hell. They came to visit every day but went home when they said visiting hours were over.
