  Chapter Twenty-Seven

Pan looked up from his computer when Donna stuck her head in his door. “Yeah?”

“Your wife’s been arrested,” she told him. “Jarvis is with her now trying to get her out.”

“What?” he asked, rage sliding through him. “When?”

“Thirty minutes ago. Police are searching your house now and her old apartment.”

“They won’t find anything,” he said as he got to his feet. “She’ll be out before I even get there.”

“I told you not to mess with the spade,” she said.

  “Call Philmore.”

“He’s dead,” she told him. “The police were arriving when I got there. I hung around until after they left, but I didn’t see the information.”

Pan clenched his fingers. “The spade?”

“Probably. Neighbors said they heard screaming. Phil was burned alive if the ash I found was any indication.”

“That son of a bitch isn’t going to get away with this,” he snarled. “After I get my wife home, he’s a dead man.”

“Let me know when everything is ready,” Ennis told Bale. “I’m going to head to the safe house to take them a few things, and then I’ll be back in the city.”

“You’re not staying out there?” Bale asked with a frown up at Ennis, who stood in front of his desk.

“Just until Trinity gets back. I want you to get the team together and make sure the Brown Building is wired to blow in the morning.”

“What about Simmer’s house and his council meeting building?” Bale asked. “He might come after you once he realizes you’ve launched an attack in his city.”

“He won’t,” Ennis said. “He’s too big a coward, but I’m counting on one of his men rising and taking his place. We’ll see what the future brings on that front.”

Bale nodded. “I’ll go—” The door banged open and a pissed off looking Jarrett stepped inside. “Jarrett.”

  “Bale.”

“Go make sure things are handled,” Ennis told Bale, keeping his eyes on Jarrett.

“Where is my brother?” Jarrett demanded as Bale closed the door behind him. “Rey’s arrested the person who hired the hit man that attacked him.”

“We’re trying to find the hit man, Jarrett,” Ennis said patiently. “I don’t want him out in the open until we have him. Besides, the woman had an accomplice that Bale and I are trying to draw out.”

Jarrett glared at him. “I want him here in police custody,” he snapped.

“I’m sure you do, but I’m doing what I think is best for him right now,” Ennis replied. “Once the threat has been contained, I’ll drop him off to you. If the plan holds, that will be sooner rather than later.” He pushed his hands into his jeans pockets.

“I need to make sure he’s okay for myself,” he muttered. “My parents want to know their baby boy is safe.”

“If you want to talk to him, I can arrange that,” Ennis told him calmly.

Jarrett sighed roughly. “Why didn’t you just tell me you were gay or whatever and you liked my brother?”

“I knew how you’d react,” Ennis admitted.

“It’s hard getting my head around it, but I’ll try to deal for my brother’s sake,” Jarrett said. “As for us, it’s going to take time before we’re cool again.”

He shrugged and picked his cell phone up from his desk. Ennis punched in Trinity’s number. “Hey, Trin. Jarrett’s here, and he wants to talk to his brother.” He tapped his fingers on his desk.

“Hello?” The sound of Jase’s voice was a balm that calmed the storm of emotions inside him. “Jase, Jarrett wants to talk to you. Hold on.”

Ennis held out the phone and stepped outside the office on the pretext of taking care of something. He didn’t want to hear the conversation, and he certainly didn’t want to hear Jase’s voice right now. He wanted to let Jase go, but the sound of his voice made it so hard to even contemplate.

He could walk away from him. His demonic nature would resist, but forcing Jase to be with him was the last thing wanted to do. He wanted to see that warmth in Jase’s eyes, not hate.

After a trip to the break room where he chugged a bottle of water, Ennis went back to his office.

“Jase wants to talk to you.” Jarrett held the phone out to him. “I’ll see you later. I want to know the minute Jase is back.”

“Drop him off at your place,” Ennis told him.

Jarrett gave him a nod and headed out.

Ennis held the phone, toying with the idea of just hanging up. His resolve would crack fast if he allowed himself to maintain too much emotional contact with the man he loved. “Yeah?”

“Jarrett said you’ve gotten part of the problem handled?” Jase asked.

“Give me a few more days, and I’ll bring you back,” Ennis answered. “Darik is being protected, so he’s fine.”

“I’m glad he’s safe,” he said. “What time are you coming in?”

“Soon. Anything in particular you want?”

  “Yeah.”

Ennis listened to the list. “Okay. Put Trinity back on.”

  “Hey.”

“I’ll be out there soon, but I won’t be able to stay all night. We’ve got some plans in play.”

“You know you can let me handle it,” Trinity said. “Did you get the hitter?”

“Yep, but I want Pan,” he said. “I need to be the one to take him down, but you can take out a few of his hired guns. We have some names. I have a skip tracer running them. We’ll have confirmation tonight.”

“You know I can’t stay with him all night,” Trinity protested. “I have to feed.”

“You’ll do it quick,” Ennis told him. “How’s he doing?”

“He’s missing his man,” he answered.

  “I’ll talk to you later.”

“I’m serious, man,” Trinity said insistent. “Know what?”

  “What?”

  “Fight for him.”

  Chapter Twenty-Eight

Jase’s heart beat faster and butterflies fluttered in his stomach when he heard the knock at the cabin door two hours later. It was like he’d never discovered Ennis was a demon or seen him kill. It was like the night he was nervous about the lap dance when all he had to worry about was Ennis wanting him. But so much had changed in such a short time span.

After his talk with Trinity, he’d spent some time alone just thinking. He’d taken everything he knew about Ennis apart and meshed it with what Trinity had told him. Jase realized Ennis was right. He wasn’t afraid of Ennis or the demon that he was. He also realized he was never going to just get over Ennis especially if he broke up with him now.

The door to the bedroom opened suddenly and Jase turned from the window to face Ennis. “Hello, Jase,” Ennis greeted him coolly. “I’m going to take a shower and then we can decide what to do about dinner.”

  “Is Trinity joining us?”

“No, he has to go feed, but he’ll be back later,” Ennis told him. “I’m not staying long.”

“You need to feed, too,” he murmured, watching Ennis move to the bathroom.

“Don’t worry about that,” he said. “I meant it when I said I wouldn’t force you.” He stepped into the bathroom and closed the door quietly behind him.

Jase stood rooted to the spot, disappointment echoing inside him. Ennis had barely looked at him. He could feel him shutting down. He was distancing himself from him.

How could he be doing that? Trinity had said they were mates and Ennis wouldn’t just walk away from him. He’d also said he wouldn’t feed from anyone else.

He wiped an agitated hand through his hair and glared at the bathroom door as he heard the water running. “Why are you disappointed?” he demanded softly as he forced himself to go downstairs. “You made him think you didn’t want him.”

What was he going to do? He didn’t want to just close door on the man he loved. He understood the risks. He’d weighed his option
s.

He washed his hands in the kitchen sink and checked out the fridge. “What do you want?” He studied his choices. “I want Ennis, but how do I make him give me another chance?”

Ennis stepped into the kitchen fifteen minutes later and grabbed a bottle of tea from the fridge. “You want tea or beer?”

“I don’t want anything,” Jase answered quietly. Well, he did want a kiss from his mate.

Ennis put his bottle on the bar after drinking a healthy sip and went to stand behind Jase. He wrapped his arms around his waist and pulled him back against him as he kissed the side of his neck. “Can I feed later?”

“I thought you were going to do that before you came in,” he said.

“I need you, Jase, but I need to feed, too,” he cut in as he closed his arms around Jase again. “Answer me, Jase. May I feed from you?” He scraped sharp teeth against Jase’s neck.

  Jase whimpered. “Yes.”

“I like your hair up like this.” He kissed his nape. “Turn off the stove.” Ennis ground his erection against the crease of Jase’s ass.

“You like my hair up?” He angled his head, giving Ennis better access.

“Gives me better access to your delectable neck.” He nipped said neck harder.

Jase moaned. “I love when you bite me, baby. I get so hard.”

Ennis pushed his hands beneath Jase’s T-shirt. His fingers played over his stomach before gliding up to pinch his nipples. “I love your body.” He pushed one hand down inside Jase’s briefs. His fingers curled around his erection. “I want to suck your dick.” He removed his hands and led Jase from the kitchen to the living room where the lights were dim and the TV played. “Take off the pants and briefs and sit on the couch.”

Jase pushed his lounge pants and briefs down and off, and then sat on the couch. He watched as Ennis kneeled before him. He pushed his lover’s tank up and trailed kisses over his chest. He teased one nipple and then the other before pinching both.

  “Yes.”

“Hands on the back of the couch,” Ennis ordered and then kissed a path down over Jase’s stomach. He brushed a kiss over the tip of Jase’s erection before closing his lips around it. Ennis hummed as his mouth sank lower over the thick flesh.

“God. Ennis your mouth is so wicked.” His eyes closed but a rough growl opened them back immediately. He looked down a little unsure and saw hunger in Ennis’s eyes.

“Watch me enjoy you,” he commanded.

Jase’s lids lowered drowsily as Ennis licked down his shaft, but he watched him swirl his tongue around the tip, lick over it and down again to his balls. A narrow tongue flicked over one orb and then the other before Ennis sucked each and then licked back up the shaft.

“Watching is making me hotter.” Jase clenched his fingers in the fabric of the couch to keep from touching his lover. His body was starting to hum, his blood a flow of lava as he watched Ennis’s lips stretch over his cock. He moved his hips, wanting to fuck his mouth. “So good, baby.”

Ennis reached between the cushion for the tube of lube and Jase gasped from the light nip delivered to his hard flesh. His lover uncapped the lube and squeezed some onto his fingers and then pressed his fingers against the tight pucker of his anus.

Jase moaned as the slim finger stroked into him. “Ennis, Let me touch you back, show you how much I want you.”

“Do you want me?” He applied more lube. “I’m still the same monster I was last night.”

“I don’t think you’re a monster,” he admitted and then moaned as a fingertip pressed into him.

“Did you fantasize about fucking a demon?” Ennis murmured and lowered his head to swipe his tongue tip over Jase’s dick.

Jase gasped, his breath ragged. “I fantasized about fucking you,” he said. “Ennis, you’re torturing me.”

Ennis lightly scraped his teeth along the thick flesh. Jase hissed. Ennis lifted his head and blew over the tip. “You deserve it.”

His brain was scrambled. “I know, but you said you were falling in love with me,” he said, his voice thick with arousal. “Men who feel that way don’t run to someone else to feed.” Ennis swallowed his cock. “Oh Fuck.” He arched his hips. “You’re killing me.”

“I wasn’t going to, silly boy.” Ennis pushed his finger deeper, stroked in and out of him, and Jase groaned.

“Let me touch you,” Jase pleaded.

  “No.”

Jase whimpered, a needy sound, as Ennis sucked his cock and fucked into him with his fingers. The dual assault was so good it was hard to keep his eyes open.

“Oh yeah.” He thrust up as he gripped the cushion. He started to speak and stopped as Ennis took his cock down his throat. “Fuck!” He fought not to come, but he did. His body jerked, and he grunted harshly as pleasure washed over him.

“Ennis,” he whispered as Ennis lifted his head. Copper eyes held his, and he caught his breath with the beauty of them.

He watched as Ennis stood and removed his shoes, pants, and briefs. He was so gorgeous. His skin was the color of melted chocolate and luscious enough to lick.

Ennis reached for the lube. He smeared some onto his cock. “No condoms.”

“I trust you,” he said in a ragged breath. But he always had. Ennis just had a way about him that he couldn’t resist. Trinity was right. His feelings for Ennis weren’t a result of hypnotic suggestion.

“I’m going to feed while I fuck you.”

“I know.” He had fed from him that first time. He’d felt it. He just hadn’t known what he was feeling. “Let me touch you, please, Sir. I need to.”

“No.” His tone was tight and his eyes were dark.

Had to be the demon coming out.

For a moment he felt fear, but fear turned to longing as the blunt head of Ennis’s cock breached the entrance of his body. The man—demon—was a tight fit. He hissed as Ennis pushed into him.

The rasp of his shaft over the tight tissues created a friction that was pleasure and pain, but Jase lifted his hips, eager for full penetration. The pain would fade in a minute and only pleasure would remain.

“Damn, Jase!” Ennis pulled him closer to the edge of the couch and thrust into him, filling him. Ennis closed his eyes, face in a tight grimace. “Hands on me.”

Jase pushed his hands beneath Ennis’s shirt eagerly, not ignoring the darkness of his voice or the russet color of his eyes. The copper swirls were intriguing, seductive. He arched into his lover and glided his hands up Ennis’s back. “I like it this way.”

Ennis kissed him greedily as he began to move in him. Jase groaned as pleasure rocked him. The easy pace was like a tease, but he liked it.

“Having a monster feels good?” Ennis taunted.

“I want you, baby.” Jase moaned. “No,” he protested as Ennis pulled all the way from his body. “Ennis?”

Ennis got to his feet. “Come here.” He pulled Jase up. “Straddle me.”

Jase did just that as soon as Ennis was seated on the hot cushion. He eased down on the hard shaft and groaned as he was filled again. Ennis was trailing kisses over his shoulder to his throat and Jase lifted and lowered on him, gripping his shoulders.

Ennis gripped Jase’s hips and met him thrust for thrust, sending Jase into a wild frenzy. The pace was fast, hard. He gripped his mate’s shoulders, felt the ripple of muscle as he threw his head back.

  “Jase!” Ennis lowered his head.

“Yes.” Jase felt the prick of sharp fangs and then he was coming, hard. He was breathless as hot jets of semen filled him and bliss rushed him anew as Ennis fed.

  Chapter Twenty-Nine

Breathing coming back to normal, Jase sat cuddled in Ennis’s arms, head on his chest. He knew without a doubt this was where he should be. This was his man.

“I should get you fed,” Ennis murmured.

“I want to feel it first,” Jase said, deciding he had to go there. He knew this was his man, but he had to make sure he was going to be able to handle what he was.

>   “Feel what?” Ennis asked carefully.

“The electricity.” He waited for what seemed like an eternity before Ennis’s hand stroked over his back, sending static over his skin. “It tickles. It’s not like the other night. Electricity dancing on your skin. It scared me.”

“That would kill you in seconds,” Ennis told him. “Watch.” Ennis held up his hand. “Don’t touch.” An electrical current fired on his fingers, flared into sparks, and then a blue current that ran between his thumb and forefinger.

Jase held his hand over it. The heated power caused him to jerk back. “That’s amazing.”

  “Satisfied?”

“No.” He frowned. “I want to see you.”

  “Up.”

Jase climbed to his feet, disappointed. “I think you should show me.” He turned and a blue, seven-foot-seven replica of Ennis lounged on the couch with red eyes and no hair. Jase stared at him for a beat, taking in the hard-packed muscle of his stomach and firm, defined muscles of his chest.

Jase trailed his fingers along the hard thigh and straddled him. He wanted to see if he’d be turned off or afraid. Heart pounding, he brushed his lips over Ennis’s firm cool ones. The strength of the arms that came around him made him feel safe rather than fearful.

He stroked a finger along his jaw. “You’re still one of the hottest men I’ve ever seen, especially naked.”

After dinner was finished and the dishes done, Jase sat curled up on the couch, tucked against Ennis’s side as they watched a DVD. Jase noticed Ennis dozing and studied him. There was no trace of the demon, only the very handsome man he’d fallen in love with years ago. It didn’t matter what Ennis was. Jase didn’t think anything could have kept him from falling in love with him.

Jase smoothed his fingers over the chiseled jaw. “I love you.” He kissed Ennis’s jaw softly, not wanting to wake him.

He put his head on Ennis’s chest, getting lost in the quiet, easy breathing.

Above his head, Ennis’s eyes opened.
