She could tell that her words had stunned him. Briefly, all was silent and he looked at her in disbelief. He began to look at her differently. She wasn’t sure if the expression was wary, or... maybe hopeful?
“Why would you do something like that?”
Lucy didn’t answer that. She couldn’t. Her reasoning was still somewhat of a jumble to her herself.
“Do you feel the same way I do?” he rasped; voice rough with longing.
This time, Lucy was the one to reach for one of his hands. He let her. She could feel the anticipation fairly thrumming through him. Threading her fingers through his, she peeked up him, suddenly shy, through her lashes.
“I’m not sure what I feel exactly.” She took her other hand and let it caress slowly down his cheek. His stubble rasped against her palm.
On closer inspection, Jayce looked tired and tension lines bracketed his usual devil-may-care smile. The past few weeks had not only been rough on her, but him as well. She smoothed her thumb along one line and she could feel the muscle beneath his cheek relax under her attentions.
“I think... I think that maybe, yes, I do feel the same way,” she whispered answering his question. “I know that I don’t want to turn you in.”
Not wanting to overthink, Lucy pulled his face down to hers and slanted her mouth for a kiss. It began as a tender gesture. Meant to comfort the both of them. Soon, it turned into a more desperate and starved action. As if the two of them had been apart for months instead of just a couple of weeks.
Jayce’s tongue drew maddening circles within her mouth and he tasted of mint and spice. A hot, melting sensation grew deep within her belly and Lucy squeezed her thighs together. There was a wetness gathering at her core. She ached to drag his hand down the front of her panties and to guide his talented fingers onto the throbbing button of her clit. Instead, she nibbled on his lower lip, hard enough to make him jump, but not enough to draw blood. He shuddered, beautifully responsive, beneath her palms and she soothed the spot with a languid lick from her tongue.
After a while, he reluctantly pulled away from her. His lips were wet and swollen to a darker shade. She imagined hers looked very much the same. A mewl of discontent had escaped her at the ending of the kiss. She very much wanted to reach out her hand. To place it possessively over the bulge of his cock that was straining the fabric of his jeans. Her mouth watered. She would use her grip on him to pull him forward and make him kiss her again.
“Are you sure, Lucy?” His question interrupted her thoughts. Hoped tinged his voice and was plain on his face to read. “Because if you are, I’d like if very much if I could stay the night... Maybe, if you're ok with it, I could spend Christmas day with you?”
“I think spending the holiday with me would be a good start to making things up to me,” she teased.
“I’ll do anything to make up it to you.” He gave her a hungry look, “As many times as it takes for you to forgive me. Just tell me what you want me to do.”
Lucy gave a laugh, sultry and rough. She turned and pointed to one of the boxes that littered her new apartment living room. The one marked “X-mas Décor”.
“There is some tinsel garland in that one there. Be a good boy and grab it. Since I don’t have a tree to decorate, I’ll just use it on you.”
He pulled out the shimmery, silver strands (while Lucy admired his tight ass) and turned back to her with a raised eyebrow. An excited look was in his eyes.
Luckily, the bed had been put together before the movers had left. She crooked her finger at him and led the way to her bedroom.
The tinsel garland, miraculously, made it through Christmas.
About the Author
Brenna Harbor has been avidly devouring books, especially romance novels, since her tender preteen years. Having dabbled with the craft of writing while in school, she put dreams of becoming a writer herself aside for a few years to focus on a career in nursing. But even between her busy job and home life, she still found the time to read…and found that most stories left her yearning for more. Some of those stories would miss a certain je ne sais quoi that she craved. One day, she realized that maybe she could create those stories herself and find that elusive element. She has been trying to find that spark and put it into her stories ever since. She currently lives in Texas, with her husband and three fur-babies, and is heavily involved in her local community writers’ group.
Christmas Bytes is her first novella.
