I lean up, pressing my lips to his. “I love you.”
“Right back at you.” He smiles his gorgeous smile that touches his eyes. “You’re one of the bravest women I’ve ever known.”
“You think?”
“You offered to go with her, right? To be with her while her mother was going through all this?”
“I did. I know I should have thought about how that would affect you and the kids. Of course, I always meant I would come back, but in that moment when I saw her fear, I just wanted to be there for her.”
“No, you misunderstand me. I am proud of you. You would have gone, for months probably, to help your friend. We would have still been here when you got back. We’re not going anywhere. Your offer of help shows the kind of person you are… you bend over backward to help those you love.”
I lean up, pressing my lips to his again, and that undeniable spark ignites through my soul. Even though I would have, without a doubt, gone to help Savanah, I sure as hellfire would have missed kissing Kevlar like this. Missed his arms around me. Missed everything there is about the kids. It would have been hell, but I would have done it if Sav needed me.
“I wanted to help her… but honestly, being away from you and the kids would have damn near killed me.”
His hand moves out, caressing my cheek. “You and me both, baby.”
My insides are turning to mush as I linger on his last word.
My conversation with Savanah replays in my mind, and I pull back, looking right into Kevlar’s gorgeous hazel eyes.
He narrows his on mine, obviously sensing something is up. “You okay?”
I sit up taller, steeling my shoulders. “I want to have an honest conversation with you. I don’t want anything to get weird, I just need us to talk this through as adults who are in a loving relationship.”
He sits up facing me with a frown on his face. “What’s this about?”
Gulping a lump down my throat, I grab his hands in mine. The thought of what I’m about to say brings a smile to my face, and I relax. “You know Sadie and Lucas mean everything… to both of us.”
“Mm-hmm?”
“I adore them, but I need to know if you’re open to the possibility of more children… with me? If you’re not, and you’re fine with just the two, I want you to understand I’m totally okay with that because I will love them like my own. I just want to know what our options ar—”
“Jovie…”
My eyes widen, my pulse races so fast I want to puke. “Mmm?”
“You’re rambling.”
“Sorry, it was—”
He leans in, kissing me, effectively cutting me off. I giggle against his lips, then he spins and pins me to the mattress. My tongue collides with his, my fingers threading through his hair, pulling him to me.
God, I could kiss this man forever.
What were we talking about?
Kevlar pulls back, then gently kisses my nose. He has the brightest smile on his face. “I’m never saying never, just not yet. Okay?” he replies.
Oh, that’s right, babies.
I bite down on my bottom lip as excitement bubbles inside of me.
The promise of one day.
“I’m totally on board with that.”
“In the meantime, how about we get to practicing making those babies while the kids are with Ethan?”
I roll him over, pushing his torso down onto the mattress. “Oh, you better believe we’re making the most of our alone time, Daddy.”
He bursts out laughing. “Yeah, Daddy’s not gonna work for me.”
I reach over to the bedside table, pulling out the pair of handcuffs I borrowed from Lou. “Well, then, how about you arrest me for being so very, very bad then, officer?”
A low growl erupts from his chest, his cock hardening underneath me. “Oh yeah, that’s gonna work just fine!”
KEVLAR
Two Months Later
The past two months have gone by so quickly.
Prinie went into labor, and that was an ordeal in itself.
Zero and Wraith were frantic when her water broke—getting her to the hospital was all kinds of chaotic. But she eventually arrived, and after twenty-two and a half hours of prolonged labor, little Sephy was born. Her nickname Sephy is short for Persephone, the goddess who tamed Hades and was said to be light mixed with dark. A perfect balance between Wraith and Prinie.
When we all arrived after the birth, I don’t think any of us have ever seen Wraith glowing as much as he was.
I know that feeling.
That proud father moment that radiates off you.
Honestly, he’s still walking around like he’s king-fucking-dick. He’s taken to fatherhood better than any of us ever expected. Prinie is a damn natural.
Zero seeing Prinie and Wraith working together as a family unit gave him the boost he needed to let go a little. He’s backed right off, which is a damn good thing, but it doesn’t mean he won’t give his opinion if he thinks they should be doing something for Sephy. He is a hands-on uncle, and to be honest, it’s clear Prinie likes it that way.
Jovie’s spending so much time with my, or should I say, our kids. Their bond is even stronger. I can’t even remember the time before Jovie was here with us. It’s like she’s simply meant to be a part of our family.
Things at the club are running smoothly right now, so Slick has followed through and invited the club out to the track for a drag meet. The club girls will be working for Dan, the Top Fuel driver.
Texas says they’re dressing up as ‘drag sluts’ for the day—I guess if the shoe fits.
They aren’t wearing much, just a strip of material to cover the right parts.
As an entire club including baby Sephy, who’s strapped to Wraith in a baby carrier with earmuffs over her ears, we make our way inside Houston Motorsport Park and over to Dan Ferguson’s trailer.
Slick has his head over the supercharger blowers, tinkering with something.
“Oi, fucker!” Neon calls out.
Slick lifts his head, and his face lights up as we all approach. Slick wipes his hands on a rag, then steps over. The crowd around us all stare at the bunch of bikers being here.
“Hey, you made it!” Slick looks us all over, then widens his eyes at Wraith. “Oh, right. VP, we have a section set up in the trailer where you can hang out with Sephy if you want. We’re a little way back from the track, but the noise is still gonna carry, so make sure to keep those earmuffs on her, especially when the cars are on the track.”
“Got it. I’m just gonna be chilling with my two princesses while you fuckers have a good time.”
Prinie leans in caressing Sephy’s cheek. “We’re gonna make our own fun, aren’t we?”
“She can’t hear you, she has earmuffs on.” Koda chuckles.
Prinie glares. “Just because you got accepted into college doesn’t mean you need to act like a typical alumni asshole,” she quips.
Koda smirks. “You’re gonna miss me when I’m gone.”
Prinie sighs, there’s sadness behind her eyes. “Yeah… but still, don’t be a damn asshole!”
Everyone laughs as Dan walks over, his red race suit tied around his waist as he widens his eyes. “Well, shit! When you said the club was coming, Slick, I didn’t think you meant everyone.” He chuckles. “Damn good to see y’all again.”
“Good to be here, Dan. Cherry’s been dying to come out and watch you race,” Zero offers while Cherry bounces up and down on her toes.
“I really have. I can’t wait,” Cherry beams.
“I’m glad you’re all here. Your support of my team means everything. Couldn’t run it without you.”
“I have to get back to working on the car, get it ready for round one. Y’all make yourselves at home. Leave whatever shit you want here and do your thing,” Slick offers.
“Go see Taylah for your VIP passes. They will get you anywhere you wanna go,” Dan instructs, signaling to one of his full time ‘drag sluts.’
“C’mon, girls, let’s go check out this place. Leave the guys to macho-out over the horsepower,” Cherry gushes.
Jovie leans in, kissing me on the cheek. “Have fun.”
“You, too!”
The women race off, leaving us here with the car. Some move over to Dan’s Top Fuel to run over the engine with Slick as Neon strides up to me. “This has been a long time coming, hey?”
“The club… coming to the track?” Neon nods. “Yeah, we’ve been needing this for ages. It’s fucking weird seeing Slick out of his cut and in a crew uniform, though.”
“He’s so clean-cut. That shit’s freaking me out.”
I burst out laughing, gripping Neon’s shoulder. “So, crap with you and Zero seems to be going a lot smoother.”
“Yeah, we’re in a good place. I wish Anna would stop her incessant horseshit. During lockdown, she drove me the fuck crazy. Constant meaningless phone calls about shit that doesn’t matter. She won’t leave me the fuck alone.”
“Then maybe you should let her down gently instead of leading her on,” an angelic voice chimes from behind us.
We turn to see a gorgeous woman, olive skin with dark hair and copper highlights pulled back into a messy ponytail. Her nose is thin but attractive, her eyes large and dark, alluring with thick, curved lashes. Her brows perfectly manicured.
This woman is stunning, not that I’m looking, but Neon most certainly is. She’s sporting a white tank top and a black leather race suit tied around her waist—a heavy scowl has formed on her beautiful face.
Neon curls up his lip in disgust. “I’m talking about my sister.”
“Then you’re even more of a fucked-up asshole if you’re leading your sister on. Who are you? Jaime Lannister?”
Neon narrows his eyes on her. “You’re mocking me…”
She grins, her teeth whiter than I was expecting. “How could you tell? Was it the sarcasm giving it away?”
Slick steps over. “I see you’ve met our rebellious, speaks her mind, racer, Oakley. This is Neon. Neon, Oakley.”
Neon places out his hand to Oakley. My eyes widen as they stare at each other like none of us are even here with them anymore.
“Neon, huh?”
“Oakley, hey?”
Oakley chuckles, finally breaking her gaze away from Neon. “Bikers, hmm… not the most reliable of people.”
“Maybe you’re dealing with the wrong bikers,” Neon mocks.
Oakley winces, taking in a long breath when suddenly, someone barrels through the crowd pushing spectators out of their way. “Oakley! I told you we’d find you.”
“Shit!” she grunts. Standing tall, she drops her hand from Neon’s as we all turn to see the members of the Heathens of Hatred MC. The brothers from Dallas are a longstanding rival of Houston Defiance, and now there are three of the fuckers headed our way.
Neon and I don’t hesitate, pulling out our guns, ready for a fight.
Oakley raises her hands to placate the other MC with a grimace. “Fuck… my past has just caught up with me…”
