“You know what’s bothering me, though?” said Lucas as Sienna hugged Aria. “Why your sister isn’t thirsting for human blood like us.”
Sienna let Aria go to answer Lucas. “Well, you know, she probably hasn’t tasted it yet. I didn’t know I had a thirst for human blood until I tasted it, remember? And I assume you also didn’t realize…”
Lucas put a hand to his chin and thought for a moment. “You’re right, sweetheart. I didn’t until that first human kill.”
“Well, luckily, I brought a little sample with me for her to try.” Aria hoped Sienna wasn’t about to drag an innocent human into the room, but was relieved when Sienna went into the kitchen and returned with a bag of blood. It looked like the kind you would find among the hospital’s supply of blood. This still made Aria cringe, however, knowing that they weren’t above stealing blood from a hospital either.
“But wait, sweetheart. She has to be a wolf for this to work,” Lucas pointed out.
“Good point, honey. Let’s hope she changes tonight, so that we can test this on her.” They grinned at each other, and Aria knew there was no way they were going to leave her alone now.
Chapter 3
As Aria was stuck with Sienna and Lucas, her cell phone rang. She looked at the screen, and it said “Wilson”.
“I need to answer this,” Aria told Sienna. “It’s Wilson. If I don’t, he’ll know something’s wrong.”
“Maybe not. Maybe he’ll just think you got held up at work,” Sienna suggested.
“No because he made sure that I would always get out by five o’clock.” It was just before six now.
“Fine. Answer it. But don’t let on that I’m here or Lucas, or I will go up to Massachusetts and kill him.”
Aria quickly picked up. “H-hello?”
“Hi, Aria! Just wanted to let you know I got here okay and to see how your first day at work went.”
“Oh, it was fine. No problems at all. Cheryl was very nice.”
“Great! Where are you right now?”
“I’m…at my apartment…I wanted to check on it, you know, since I’m not living here right now and all.”
“Well, it’s getting late, so maybe you better get back to my place in case you change.”
“Y-yes. I’m on my way out right now, I promise.” Sienna wrote out a message quietly on a piece of paper and shoved it towards Aria. Aria read it. It was a question to ask Wilson. “Oh, by the way, you didn’t say how long you’ll be away?”
“Just a few days. I should be home again on Thursday.”
“Okay. Then I will see you Thursday.”
“Yes. You don’t sound right, are you okay?”
“I’m fine. I’m just hungry. I…haven’t gotten around to getting dinner yet.”
“Oh then I’ll let you go. Good night, Aria. Take care of yourself, and remember to call Ella if you need to.”
“I will, I promise. Good night.” Aria hung up and looked at Sienna. “How did you know he was in Massachusetts?”
“Like I said I’ve been watching you, and while I was watching you, I was also watching him while he was with you, and I found a way to get him away from you, if even just for a few days.”
“Wait…those people in Massachusetts?”
“Oh no, that wasn’t me. That was Lucas.” Lucas smiled from a nearby doorway. “I asked him to so that Wilson would then go off to investigate, like the good cop that he is, leaving you here all alone.” Sienna looked at Lucas. “By the way, sweetie, I never properly thanked you, did I?”
“No, you haven’t.” Sienna got up and immediate jumped into Lucas’ arms, and they started to kiss passionately and with great lust. “You know what?” asked Lucas when they momentarily stopped. “Your sister has a nice bedroom here, and she hasn’t used it in weeks. What do you say we make use of it for her?” Aria cringed in disgust at the thought of her sister and boyfriend having sex in her bed.
Sienna then stepped away from him. “Now now, dear, let’s not be rude in front of my sister. Besides, we need to be here in case she changes. It’s almost sundown, after all. If she’s going to change, it will be soon.” Sienna sat back down next to Aria as Lucas started to grunt, no doubt feeling dissatisfied.
A couple of hours later, Aria started to feel nauseated and started to moan. “Looks like we’re going to get lucky tonight,” commented Lucas.
“Aria? Do you feel yourself changing?” Sienna asked Aria, to which Aria nodded, unable to speak from what she was experiencing. “Quickly, we need to take her away from here to somewhere secluded.”
Lucas picked up Aria in his arms and headed out the door. Sienna posed as a watchout, looking out for neighbors, Aria’s landlord, people on the street…anyone who might see Aria change, or question why she was being carried away in Lucas’ arms. When they made it to the streets, it was empty, so they used their power of speed – which Aria did not have – to get to the woods as quickly as possible. There, when they were deep enough away from civilization, Lucas put her down on the ground.
If Aria wasn’t feeling so weak, she would’ve run for it, but her changing body was keeping her from doing so. Besides, she knew what would happen if she tried to escape – Sienna and Lucas would surely go after Wilson and kill him. After a few more moments, she finally felt herself explode into wolf form, her clothes falling in tatters. Worse of all was that what she was wearing was the waitress uniform for Cheryl. How would she explain what happened to it?
As she got up in her wolf body, Lucas immediately grabbed her. Even in wolf form, he was too strong for her and she couldn’t get away from him.
“Quickly, Sienna! Feed her the blood!”
Sienna forced Aria’s jaws open and poured the blood down her throat, causing Aria to choke and spat some blood out. Lucas quickly let go, wanting to avoid getting blood on himself, and Aria fell to the ground, feeling really sick still.
“So, how should we test her?” Lucas asked Sienna.
“Well, obviously we need to find a human for her to thirst the blood of. I’ll be right back!” Sienna disappeared for several moments as Lucas kept watch on Aria, making sure she didn’t run. When she returned , she had an unconscious man in her arms. He was wearing a mask over head. “Look, I lucked out! I found a criminal! At least this way little miss innocent wolf here won’t feel so bad when she kills him.” Sienna dropped the man to the ground.
“Lucky you! How did you find him?”
“He was robbing a store down the street. Don’t worry, no one saw me because the store was closed already.”
“What about security cameras?” Lucas asked with a concerned look on his face.
“Are you kidding me? It’s a small town. These people are too trustful of one another to install high tech stuff like that, nor does anyone here have the money for stuff like that. But don’t worry, I did a quick sweep of the place and found nothing.”
“And there were no cops around either?”
“Took care of that, too,” Sienna explained. “I called in a fake robbery attempt elsewhere. Caused all the nearby cops to get called away.”
“Smart girl!” said Lucas, who then grabbed her and planted a kiss on her lips.
As they did this, Aria found herself unable to look away from the body. However, the thirst for blood Sienna had explained to her about, Aria wasn’t feeling it at all.
“That’s right, Aria. You know you want it.” Sienna grinned.
But Aria surely didn’t. All she wanted was for Sienna and Lucas to stop torturing her like this. Stop hoping she’ll become evil like them. After several moments of waiting, Sienna realized nothing was happening. Aria was just standing back, away from the body, not even going up to it.
“What’s going on with her?” asked Lucas. “Why isn’t she killing the man?”
“I don’t think it’s working,” said Sienna. “Or she’s resisting the urge real strongly.” Aria wasn’t. She knew for sure she had no desire for this man’s blood, or any human’s blood.
r /> “What should we do with this man, then?” asked Lucas.
“Well, we can’t very well let him live, can we? He’ll just tell the police or someone.”
“Then we better kill him,” said Lucas.
“Do you want to do the honor, or shall I?”
“Go for it, sweetheart,” responded Lucas, smiling.
Sienna took the victim’s head into her hands and twisted it quickly, breaking his neck. “Now what should we do with the body?”
“What we normally do. Leave it out somewhere for someone to find. They’ll never know it was us because they never knew the others were us.”
“Good point. Why don’t you take care of it? I’ll stay here with my sister.”
Lucas nodded, picked up the body, and disappeared for several moments. Sienna looked at Aria.
“I don’t understand. How are you resisting? Could it be…my powers become weaker when it’s passed on to another?”
Aria of course could not answer while in wolf form and started to feel faint. The last thing she saw before she blacked out was her sister looking down at her.
Chapter 4
The next morning, Aria awoke in Wilson’s house. She was lying on the couch with a blanket over her and in human form, completely naked. She got up with a bad headache pounding in her head and noticed a note on the coffee table. It said “Remember. Don’t tell Wilson. Or we’ll kill him.” She looked at the nearest clock and was happy to find that she had plenty of time to get cleaned up and go to work at Cheryl’s, but then she realized Charlie was nowhere to be found. Had Sienna and Lucas done something to him? She quickly got dressed and looked around the house, including the basement. His food dish had been emptied from the previous day, but he was nowhere to be found. Just then, there was a knock on the front door. She answered it after the first few knocks.
“Good morning, Aria!” It was Ella.
“Good morning. I’m sorry but I’m kind of busy right now…” Relief interrupted her rant. There was Charlie, on a leash, standing next to Ella, and he was safe and sound.
“Charlie, I’m so glad you’re safe!” Aria crouched down to hug him tight. “Why was he with you?”
“Your sister and her boyfriend brought him by,” Ella explained. “They seemed so nice, too, but they said that you called them from work and needed me to check on him?”
“Oh, yes,” lied Aria, who was also relieved that they weren’t mean enough to kill Charlie, or Ella, for that matter. “Actually, would it be okay if you check on him every day? I just got a job at Cheryl’s and I’m not sure if I can take care of him.”
“Sure, no problem,” said Ella, smiling.
“Great, thank you so much,” said Aria. “Wilson told me he’ll be back on Thursday.”
“But what about your um…other problem?” asked Ella.
“Oh, I think I’ll be okay with my sister and her boyfriend here.” Another lie. Aria just wanted as minimal contact with Ella as she could until she found a way to stop Sienna and Lucas from killing people. “I’m sorry, Ella, but I really should get ready for work.”
“Okay. Call me if you need anything, then.”
“ I will.” Aria closed the door and then got ready for work.
There, she had trouble concentrating once again, but this time she tried not to let Cheryl see it. She wondered where Sienna and Lucas were now, and why they had simply dropped her off at Wilson’s place and disappeared. Were they planning something else? Did they have another way to make Aria crave the blood of humans? As she was deep in thought, a bell rang. It was the cook, alerting her that an order was up. She picked up and dropped it off at a customer’s table when the bell of the door chimed. She looked up and was horrified to see that it was Sienna and Lucas.
Cheryl was the first to greet them as always. “Hello, folks. Table for two?”
“Yes, that would be lovely,” said Sienna, with Lucas holding her hand as Cheryl then led them to a table. She handed them two menus and said “Your waitress will be Aria, and she’ll be right over.”
“Great,” said Sienna, with a smile as Lucas scooted into the other side of the booth.
Aria wondered why they were here. They certainly wouldn’t kill all these people in the daylight. Especially with cops roaming around just outside, a couple of cops sitting at a table just across the diner, and the police station just down the street.
“That’s for you, hon,” said Cheryl as Aria studied Sienna and Lucas.
“Okay,” responded Aria, who then made her way to their table. “Hi, I’m Aria, and I’ll be your waitress.” She didn’t want Cheryl to know she knew them. “What can I get you to drink while you look at our menu?”
“Just a couple of glasses of Coke will be fine, thanks,” said Sienna, who then whispered, “Good job. If you make all these people suspicious of us, I will not hesitate to find Wilson and kill him.”
“What are you doing here anyway?” whispered Aria, making sure nobody heard her.
“Checking up on you, of course,” whispered Sienna. “After all, if you hadn’t had showed up for work, people would wonder.”
Aria noted the glasses of Coke on the order pad and said loudly, “Alright, I’ll go get those and be back for your order.” She tried to sound cheerful even though deep inside she was wishing she could take them somewhere discreet and kill them, thereby ending the string of unsolvable murders that was haunting Mayville and Fall River.
Chapter 5
Wilson was on his way home a day early from Fall River after getting nowhere with his investigation there. As he drove his car, he decided not to call Aria, but to surprise her with his homecoming. He knew that Aria would surely still be at work when he got home. He planned to cook up a real nice Italian dinner for Aria, which was her favorite kind of food. He would stop by a grocery store that was away from the diner, so that Aria wouldn’t see him. He would also go to the pet store next door and buy special dog treats as a reward for Charlie for being such a great dog while Wilson was away.
He did, however, check into the Mayville Police Department by phone call before leaving Fall River that morning, and was saddened to find out about the latest murder. He was told that the body was found in the middle of town, same cause of death as the others, but also the same lack of evidence as the others. What the police could find about the victim would be waiting for him on his desk when he returned to work the next day.
When he entered his driveway, got out of his car, and started to unload his groceries, he heard a rustling in the trees nearby. He carefully put the bags back into the trunk and started reaching for his gun, but he was relieved to find that it was just Ella, with Charlie on a leash. Charlie began to get excited at the sight of him and tried to get away from Ella, who held tight on the leash, telling him to calm down. Wilson immediately left the gun on his holster and met up with Ella and Charlie at the end of the driveway, where he gave Charlie some nice pats on the head.
“Hello, boy,” Wilson said to Charlie, and then asked Ella, “Ella, what are you doing with Charlie?”
“Aria asked me to take care of him while she’s at work. She didn’t tell you?”
“No, she didn’t,” responded Wilson. “But it’s okay. I should’ve figured she wouldn’t be able to handle him AND work.”
Ella noticed his open trunk with the bags of groceries. “You could use some help.” She took one bag, and Wilson took the others. As they walked toward Wilson’s house, Ella came to a realization. “Wait, I thought you weren’t coming back until tomorrow?”
“Change of plans,” responded Wilson, who struggled to unlock the front door with his keys but after a few minutes, managed to get in. After Ella got in, she placed the bag down on a table near the front door, closed and locked it, and then released the leash and took it off of Charlie, before joining Wilson in the kitchen. He started putting them away.
“Can I help?” Ella offered.
“It’s alright. You wouldn’t know where everything goes, anyway,” res
ponded Wilson.
“Actually…I would. I’ve pretty much memorized the layout of your kitchen over the past years, having come over so many times to stay with Charlie while you were at work.”
“Oh, well then, by all means!” Wilson said, smiling as he continued to put things away.
As they were doing this, Ella kept the conversation going about his return. “So, does Aria know you’re back early?”
“No, but please don’t tell her. I want to surprise her with an Italian dinner.”
“Oh, how nice! Well then I should go and let you get to it.” Ella looked at the kitchen clock. “You don’t have much time before she gets off work!”
“Okay, but I appreciate the help, and please continue to check on Charlie for us. I’ll be going back to work tomorrow.”
“No problem. I’ll see you then.” Ella and Wilson gave each other a quick, friendly hug, and then Ella gave Charlie a goodbye pat on the head before leaving. Charlie then joined Wilson in the kitchen.
“Well, boy,” Wilson said to Charlie, “I’m glad to be home, and I can’t wait to see Aria’s reaction when she sees what I’m making for her. But first, I have a treat for you as well.” Wilson opened up the box of dog treats he bought and fed one to Charlie, who ate it up fast and then smiled and wagged his tail happily.
Chapter 6
When Aria came home from work, she was expecting to find Sienna and Lucas there waiting for her, but was surprised and relieved to see Wilson’s car sitting right there in his driveway. She practically dropped Wilson’s bicycle before rushing in the front door to find a homemade, full Italian dinner, with both main dish and side salad, as well as a bottle of wine and glasses, set out on the dining room table.
“Wilson?” Aria called out.
Wilson appeared in the doorway with a plate full of dinner rolls in hand, and Charlie by his side, happy to see her as well. Wilson placed the plate on the table and came up to Aria. “Welcome home,” he said.
