Must Be Love Page 5

With that thought in mind, I dial the number of a person I’ve never met, but respect.

  “Hello,” comes across the line.

  “Hello, Mr. Williams?” I ask.

  “This is him,” he replies.

“You don’t know me, Sir, but I’m Cade Martin and well I’ve been dating Aubrey. I wanted to formally reach out to you,” I tell him. My gut in knots, this man - he could make or break my relationship with Aubrey.

“I know who you are. My daughter speaks very highly of you,” he responds.

“She’s an amazing woman. It’s kind of why I’m calling you,” I say.

“I know why you’re calling. Hate like hell I’m not there in person to see you sweat, but from what I hear from Aubrey, I know you’re a good man and my daughter doesn’t have shit taste,” he says with a chuckle.

“I appreciate it, Sir. More than you know,” I tell him honestly.

“We’ll be coming out there in the next month or so. I’m aware she’s living with you. So, we’ll get a hotel in town,” he replies.

“You don’t have to do that. Our place is big enough for all of us.” It’s the truth. Our house has four bedrooms, and with it just being Aubrey and me, there’s no reason why her parents can’t stay with us.

“Then we’ll be making plans soon. Treat my baby girl right, Cade. Looking forward to meeting you,” he says.

“You too, Mr. Williams,” I respond, and he clicks the phone off.

Now that I have his blessing, I’m off to go pick out the perfect ring for Aubrey.

  Chapter 26

  Aubrey

This week has been bliss, seriously. I figured Cade and I would bicker here and there, straightening out our kinks, but we haven’t really had much. Maybe some on him not putting his clothes in the hamper, but besides it. Typical stuff like that, or when he almost dropped my flat iron in the toilet. I have to admit that was funny hearing him grunt, “Son of a monkey’s whore,” I giggled when I walked into the bathroom.

I just said, “Okay. We’re even,” and ran out of the bathroom, I didn’t make it far as he chased me straight to the bed where we made love until it was time for us to get ready or we would have both been late to work.

Cade recently put a swing on the deck and that’s where I’ve been spending most of my evenings until he comes home. It’s where I am today when I hear him pull into the drive. Axe is barking and running behind him the whole way home. I asked Cade if it was safe for him to do that, and he smiled and said, “He knows his limits, I promise he’ll be okay.”

I make my way to the kitchen, stirring the simmering pot of chili I put on the stove when I got home. That is the one downfall of Cade’s job. It’s not a typical nine to five job, he’s gone early in the morning. Sometimes I’ve been waking up early so I can see him off more and more. For instance, today it’s now going on seven o’clock and he’s just now pulling up. I take the toppings out of the fridge and set them on the counter, so we can grab what we want and eat together.

He comes in and his hands find my hips, as he pulls me into his body and kisses the crook of my neck where it meets my shoulder.

“Hey,” I whimper out, my body is already covered with goosebumps.

“Hey, baby. Have a good day?” he asks.

“Yeah, I think Dr. Smith is talking about retiring though. I hate to think who will take his place.” He may be old, but he really is a great veterinarian to work for.

“I’m sure whoever takes his place will be okay, and if he’s not, you can always take some time off until you find the right place,” he says as I turn around and look into his eyes.

“I love you, Cade. I don’t care if anyone thinks it’s too soon. I know with every depth of my being, I love you,” I state.

“I love you more than the stars, Aubrey,” he says, then he’s dropping to one knee, opening a box, and taking my breath away. “Marry me? Become mine for all of time.”

“Yes!” I scream out through happy tears. I drop down and kiss him with everything that I have.

  Six Months Later

Aubrey’s parents stood true to their word and came out to Washington. They also stayed at our house. I could see she was happy about it, but then she was giving me the look. I didn’t put two and two together until I was making her come with my head between her legs at night and she had to shove a pillow over her face.

She’s a screamer, something we’ll have to tone down one day when we have little ones around.

They didn’t stay too long, but it was enough for us to have a small backyard wedding by the small lake. It was my father, her parents, her and I, with the exception of a preacher. We wanted it small and intimate. She wore a long-sleeved, white lace gown and I wore a nice pair of jeans, a button-down shirt that matched her gown, minus the lace, and boots.

She was the epitome of perfection. It was short and sweet. We said our “I do’s” and then had a small meal together. Then the parents left, and we had our home back to ourselves.

Dr. Smith ended up retiring. Aubrey talked about going back to school, while she felt out the new veterinarian that was taking over. She ended up liking the new one just as much as the old coot.

She did go down to part-time. It was something we talked about a lot. She was apprehensive as she said, “I want to make sure I’m pulling my weight too, Cade.”

“Babe, if you work full-time leading up to the wedding, you’ll barely see your parents. We have a home that’s barely full. I want you to take your time and do the things we want to do. I get more leeway and Dad is already talking about bringing in some extra help so we can both breathe a bit.”

She agreed, and now here we are. She’s six months pregnant with a glow and a smile that never goes away.

I get home at a much more manageable time. Usually before dinner is even ready, some days are late, but not nearly as bad as when Aubrey and I were first together.

“Hey, honey,” Aubrey says as I walk into the kitchen. The sight of her barefoot and pregnant brings a smile to my face. I want her like this as much as her body will allow us to. When I asked her how many she wanted, she said a houseful.

“Hey, baby. How was your day?”

“Good, did some shopping in town. Don’t worry, everything is still in the car,” she rolls her eyes as she says it.

I bend down to her protruding belly, “How’s daddy’s little girl doing?” I place my palm on there as I talk, and she kicks back.

“I think she may be a kick boxer with the way she moves all the time,” Aubrey says with a laugh.

“Good, it’ll keep the boys away,” I grunt as I stand back up and kiss Aubrey. She turns me on with every twitch of her hips and I can’t wait to have her in bed tonight.

“Love you, Aubs,” I whisper into her ear as the music plays softly in the background as I sway my body with hers.

“I love you,” she replies, and we stand here in the kitchen, holding one another.

  Epilogue Two

  Aubrey

  Seven Years Later

This is our night, every year on the anniversary of the night we met, Cade and I go to the bar and grill and have a few beers, dance for a little bit and then carries me to his truck, where he takes me home and we make sweet, sweet love while our children are asleep. We stopped at four. Between Ava, Emma, Brett, and Shawn, we had our hands full.

They kept me busy and after I had Ava, I never went back to work, choosing to stay home with her and then the next thing I knew when she was just over a year old, I was pregnant again, and it became the domino effect.

Cade was on cloud nine, but after Shawn, I told him I was ready to sit back and enjoy the four we had. All four of them are under the age of seven. Ava is starting to play soccer this spring and next the other three will want to play a sport, and well, our lives will change even more. We’ll be hustling everywhere. It’s a good thing Cade and I upgraded my small SUV to a Suburban, or we’d be taking tw
o cars everywhere.

We’re home now. Mom and dad decided to move to Washington. They couldn’t handle being states away from their grandbabies. Really, as soon as we found out I was expecting Ava, they put a For Sale sign up on my childhood home and found a nice house in town.

“Good night, Mom. ‘Night Dad!” I shout out while Cade is carrying me up to our room. They see themselves out and I can’t wait to have my husband all to myself.

“You ready for tonight?” Cade asks.

“What’s tonight?” I reply with sass in my voice.

“You’re gonna get it.” He takes us right to the shower where I can moan and be as loud as possible on the rare occurrence all the kids are asleep, and we don’t have any in our bed. It never fails though. One of them wakes up in the middle of the night and wants me or Cade. Neither of us ever have the heart to put them back in bed once they’re asleep.

I hurriedly strip out of my heels and dress. Spinning around I hear the intake of breath from Cade. “What?”

“You went out bare, all fucking night. I’m going to spank your ass for that, Aubs,” he grunts as he strips down.

I step in the shower and grin over my shoulder. He’s stalking right behind me. I keep moving until my front is plastered against the cold tile wall.

Cade comes up behind me, his front to my back, and I know tonight it’s not going to be slow and sweet. It’s going to be fast and rough, just how I like it.

“Cade, I need you,” I moan as I move my hands down to my clit and apply pressure. He grabs my leg and moves it up, holding me as his cock finds my sex. He’s hard and so ready. I can’t wait for him to fill me up.

“Move your hand, Aubrey. You know where I want them,” he grumbles as he slides inside me. My head goes back, and I’m already lost in ecstasy as my hands go up and find purchase on the bar in the shower.

“You’re about to come already, aren’t you, baby?” he croons in my ear and he’s right. I’ve been so keyed up from going bare and knowing how out of control he would be when we got home.

“Yes, yes, yes!” I cry out as I come and a few thrusts later, I feel Cade come inside me.

“Happy anniversary, Aubrey,” he says as he pulls out of my center and brings my front to his front.

“Happy Anniversary. I can’t wait for more years like these. I love you,” I reply as I rise up on my toes to kiss him. I have a smile on my face the whole time.

“Love you,” he mutters as he kisses me back and this is how we spend our anniversary night. Nothing fancy, just Cade and I in our own little world.
