  “Liam?” she called.

  “In the kitchen!”

“Could you come into the bedroom for a second?”

Liam didn’t answer and the eternity before she heard his footsteps approaching, she tried to find the perfect position to stand in. None of them seemed natural. In the end, when he dipped into the room, she was just standing there, arms at her side, heart threatening to jump through her chest to cower in a corner.

  Chapter 19

There were few times in Wraith’s life where he was speechless. Usually, he refused to speak because he wasn’t the kind of man who suffered from verbal diarrhea. Yet, as he stood there, frozen in place, staring at the perfection in front of him, he had no words. The dark blue corset held her perfectly, showing off the swells of her breasts. It synched her waist, accentuating her already perfect hips that was bare except for the lace of her thong.

Wraith licked her lips as his eyes flowed over her dark skin down to the leather thigh high stilettos she wore. He rubbed his palms against his thighs, not sure he deserved any of this.

  “Hummingbird…”

“You don’t like it…” She bowed her head.

  “Please…turn around for me.”

She met his gaze but did as he asked. She even held onto one of the bed posts and arched her back. The blue of her thing disappeared between her rounded ass-cheeks and he lost his mind. “Dance for me.”

  “Liam, I’ve never…”

“I’m not any other man, Hummingbird.” His voice husky. “I’m your man. And you may not have done this before, but you cannot look the way you do right now and not do this for me. I want to watch your hips sway and know it’s only for me. I want you to show me, I’m the only man who will ever see you like this.”

She glanced at him over her shoulder as her hips moved slowly, hypnotically from side to side. Amelia danced for him, making Wraith harder and harder. She turned, pressed her back to the post then slid downward, only to turn sideways and rolled her body into standing.

  “Damn…”

His pulse beat out of control, his entire body was at attention and every thought he ever had all rolled always and blended into her. She shimmied toward him, pressed her back to his chest and stuck her ass into his groin. It crushed Wraith’s cock beautifully and he growled. When he reached for her, Amelia pulled away, walked around behind him and eased her breasts into his back.

“I want you, Hummingbird.” Wraith admitted.

He faced her and backed her into the wall closest to them. Wraith held her shoulders and dragged his work roughened hands down her arms then up to cradle her neck. He kissed her, trying to show her just how desperately he yearned for only her. But the kiss wasn’t enough and soon he was losing his mind all over again.

He had to find another way.

He kissed her neck, across each shoulder then downward. Her hardened nipples called to him through the fabric of her corset. He pulled the material away and lavish hot, wet attention on each, swirling his tongue over the hardened peaks. Amelia tangled her fingers in his hair when he used his beard to drag across one nipple then the next.

  “Liam…”

But he wasn’t satisfied. He kissed down her frame until he was on his knees in front of her. He looked up to see Amelia watched him with a mixture of heat and confusion. After a smile, he kissed her belly, her hips then the soft insides of her thighs. He dragged his tongue intimately against her, over the lace of her thong but could taste her already. Amelia was wet for him, something that pleased him.

Using his index finger, he pushed the material aside to lick her precisely where he’d wanted to. Her legs trembled. Instead of letting up, Wraith eased her harder into the wall, lifted her left leg over his shoulder and found her once more with his tongue. Amelia gripped the sides of his head, curling her fingers behind his ear. She writhed her hips against his tongue, taking it deep into her and screaming for him. She trembled through her climax which sent pride fluttering through Wraith like the tiny waves in a puddle.

“Damn, Liam, wha—” She gasped and shivered.

Wraith sucked on her clit then added a finger. He slid it deep into her, daring her to fight breaking apart for him again. His name tumbled from her lips like a prayer and by the time she came for him again, his hand was covered in her juices.

This time, he rose and stared into her eyes. “Touch yourself for me,” he said.

Though she seemed hesitant, Amelia slid a hand down her body and rolled the ball of her index finger over the tiny jewel he’d had his mouth on mere seconds before. Amelia arched upward, her shoulders rising and falling heavily. Wraith used the moment to undress, to grab one of the condoms she’d left on the bed and rolled it onto himself. But he didn’t go to her immediately.

He wanted to watch, to see how her body reacted knowing he was watching her. She came, shouting his name. Wraith smiled then stepped forward once more. “You like being watched.” He whispered against her ear.

  “Only by you.”

“Good answer. Spread your legs for me.”

When she did as he asked, he found her entrance and drove home. Amelia dug her nails into his shoulders then scraped across the tattoo on his back. He braced his entire frame into her, loving her teeth against his neck as he crashed into her.

This side of Amelia, he loved. He loved the way she took his force and gave him everything. She didn’t wilt under his power. No, Amelia held her own, sinking her teeth into his flesh even as she climaxed around his hardness.

He pulled from her, twisted her around and found her again. This time, he gripped the sides of her corset and pulled. When her breasts were free, he cupped them from behind, used them as leverage and rode her hard and fast.

  “Liam…”

  “Yes, my heart?”

  “Harder—please?”

He kissed the back of her head. “Only because you said please.”

She moaned, curled forward and pressed her forehead to the wall. The position sent her ass outward more and him to slide even deeper into her wetness. She weakened after coming for him again. Wraith picked her up and carried her to the bed. She rolled over, climbed to her knees and sway her ass for him.

Wraith, helplessly, fell to his knees and slid his tongue into her.

  “Baby!” She sighed. “Yes!”

As she drew close, Wraith entered her again and held his breath as she threatened to burn him alive. He held his hips steady as she pushed back onto him taking him deep. She moved her body like poetry, taking him deep and releasing him enough so only the head of his cock remained in her. It was a game she played for she knew it turned him on. It drove him wild.

He growled, gripped her hips and slammed into her. She shouted his name and fell face first into the bed. But Wraith was primal. He climbed to the bed to stand over her, slid back inside her and rode her until he fell to pieces. All he could do was drill deep then let go ever bit of control he thought he had when Amelia gave him her body. In this scenario, he was the flower and his beautiful Hummingbird would feed from him, taking as much as she’d like and leaving him with a growing love inside him which threatened to pull him apart.

Wraith sat on the edge of the bed and watched Amelia sleep. She was naked, the sheets had slipped down to her ass. Her hair was a righteous mess, but she was still the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. He caressed a hand down her back, loving the softness of it, the perfection of it.

“You’re mine, Hummingbird.” He whispered, leaning in to kiss her skin between her shoulders. “And I would dare anyone to say otherwise.”

He left her for a bit to talk to Tex then to Lili. He asked her to keep watch over Amelia’s best friend for a little longer because they would be on their way back in a week. Once done, he went through the fridge and made a garden salad and steaks. Beast had said he could grab a couple of wines from the cellar—except a particular bottle he had saved for a special occasion.

He settled for a bottle of chianti and set it in th
e freezer while he dished out the food. The garden salad he placed in a separate bowl on the tray as well as dressing, the steaks, plates, knives and forks and two wine glasses. He then retrieved the wine and made his way up the stairs.

Amelia was sitting up in bed, sheets pulled up to her breasts.

“I thought you left,” Amelia said.

“And I thought you didn’t care if I stayed.”

Amelia bowed her head. “I know what I said.”

He exhaled loudly and set the tray on top of the chest at the foot of the bed, curled a leg under him and sat.

“When I said earlier, we needed to talk…”

  She shrunk away from him.

“I’m sorry,” he said. “I should have known better. You said something to me when we were in Russia. You said—”

“I can’t wait to take you home because you may not want to admit it now, Liam, but you’re mine.”

Wraith smiled. “Yes.” He lifted her hand to kiss it. “Did you mean it?”

  “Yes.”

“I know we aren’t home yet, but you promised me something.”

“You don’t want to leave?” Amelia asked.

“No, Hummingbird. I don’t want to walk away.” He framed her face. “Those children you yearn to have? I want to be their father. I want to be the man you come home to after the day wasn’t fair. I want to be the arms you run to when the world is unkind. I want to be your protector, your lover, your friend. Amelia Hemmingway, I love you. And it’s so strong in me, I wanted to kill him…”

  “Dad?”

“Yes. I want to destroy everything and everyone who would make you sad.” He bowed his head to her shoulder.

  She held him.

“Loving anyone this much scares me.” He admitted. “It scares me, but I look at you and the strength your smile gives me is everything.”

Amelia cradled his face and lifted his head. She stared into his eyes for a moment as if searching for something. “You’re mine, Liam Snyder. Do you know it now?”

  He nodded.

  “No—say it.”

Wraith smiled. “I’m yours—all of me.”

  “I love you, Wraith.”

He laughed. “You’re calling me Wraith now? Why is that?”

“You didn’t look like a Wraith to me.” She smirked. “Now, you brought us some food. You should eat because you’ll need your strength.”

He quirked a brow making her laugh.

“I have plans for your body. And you’ll need to keep up.”

Wraith kissed her. “I bow to you orders, Captain.” He leaned further to kiss her neck. “Your wish is my command.”

  Epilogue

Toronto was still cold. But it was nothing in comparison to Russia. Amelia decided she would not complain. She had a couple of nights before she could see Lisa and it took some doing to get Liam not to go with her. She first had to explain it all to Lisa and having Liam there would make it a little weird.

She spent the first night back digging through her papers for her birth certificate. Liam held her hand as she unfolded it to read what it said. Her father’s name wasn’t on it. The spot for father had been left blank.

  “Who am I?” she asked.

Liam pulled her into his chest. “You are precisely who you were meant to be and where you were meant to be.”

“Liam, I know you love me.” Amelia eased back and stared into his eyes. “But I have no last name.”

  “It won’t be for long.”

  She quirked a brow.

“Hummingbird—I’m not going anywhere. And at some point, I’m going to want to put a ring on your finger. If you’ll have me, you will have a last name.”

Amelia found she loved the idea.

  Amelia Snyder…

  She hugged him tightly.

“How about we eat ice-cream out of the container?” Liam asked.

  She giggled but nodded.

As they ate away at the cold desert, Amelia cleared her throat and looked over at Liam. “I called my office while you were in the shower.”

  “Oh—how did that go?”

“Well, my job is safe.” She explained. “Apparently, they received a visit from a cop who told them I was helping them in an investigation and would be unavailable for a few weeks. I’m pretty sure Tex and Lili had something to do with that. I didn’t even think about it.”

“Told you—this team is a family. And the fact your job is safe is great news—isn’t it?”

“It is…I just—I’ve always wanted to open my own accounting firm.” She had never admitted the dream to anyone—not even Lisa. “Make my own decisions, you know?”

  “How can I help?”

  “You’re serious?”

“Of course.” Liam told her. “I was thinking of working myself. Lili has some friends in the police here. With my training, I wouldn’t have to do much to gain my shield.”

“Would this shield come with a uniform?” Amelia walked around the desk and wrapped her arms around Wraith.

“Yup.” He kissed her. “That’s what does it for you, huh? The uniform gets you hot?”

“I confess, detective.” She whispered breathily. “The uniform makes me hot.”

He growled. “I have another way of revving your engine.”

She sighed as his hand snaked down the front of her pants. Soon, the fingers were past her panties and she spread her legs as the ball of one rolled circles over her clit. “Oh, yes…that will do it too.”

The next day she used Liam’s help to pack up her house. There was no way she could stay there. Selling it seemed like the only thing to do. They were already looking at properties together. After they were tired of the boxes and the dust, they met Lili and Doc for some food. While she hugged Doc and played with him at the park, Liam and Lili talked.

By the time the next day rolled around, Amelia had fallen in love with a lakehouse. While Liam met with the agent, Amelia drove over to Lisa’s.

“You’re alive!” Lisa said as she tackled her for a hug.

“Barely.” Amelia hugged her tightly then entered the house.

Lisa poured them some coffee and they sat at the dinner table for a talk. Amelia went through the entire story, leaving nothing out. When she was finished, they’d been through an entire pot and a half of coffee and demolished a tray of cookies Lisa had baked.

  “Your dad?” Lisa was stunned.

“Apparently, he’s not my father,” Amelia said. “I forgot that bit.”

  “Da-fuck?”

Amelia nodded before draining the last of her coffee and set the mug on the table. “My birth certificate has no father listed.”

“You think he was lying to hurt you?”

“Why then? In his head I was going to die anyway,” Amelia told her. “It makes no sense he’d even say those things. My mother had an affair on vacation and brought back a bun in the oven.”

“How do you feel about that?”

Amelia shrugged. “No clue. I was a little—I was left kind of spiraling. All my life I was a Hemmingway. I mean, he was a partly shit father, but I still belonged to someone. Suddenly, I was no one.”

  “How about the hottie?”

  “Liam?”

  “Yes. Didn’t he promise”

“No—not in so many words.” Amelia sighed happily. “But I know one day, I’ll carry his name and until then, I’ll keep Hemmingway.”

They wandered from the kitchen to the living room. They slumped silently to the sofa and for an eternity neither said anything. Lisa was the first to break the silence.

  “What now?” Lisa asked.

“I don’t know. I’m thinking of lending the painting to a museum for a while. I figured their security would be better than mine.” She sighed. “Liam could care less what I do with the thing. I think if it was up to him, he’d chuck it into a fire. But a lot of people died over the damn thing.”

  Silence.

“This Tex guy,” Lisa said. “Sounds like a good man.”

  “He is.”

  “Is he single?”

Amelia grinned. “No, sweetie. I’m sorry. But the guys in Germany, I think two of them are single.”

“Germany is too far,” Lisa sighed dramatically. “Way too far. Anyway, so, the lakehouse…”

She spent a little more time with Lisa and as she left, she promised she’d be back the moment she could so they could have a real girls’ night.

“I want to meet your Wraith.” Lisa pushed. “I have to.”

Amelia giggled. “Yes ma’am. We should have breakfast once we get into the new place. I’m going to make sure we can get in there fast because I really want you to meet him.”

“Listen, are you sure this guy is a good guy?” Lisa asked. “Are you sure you can trust him?”

“I’m sure.” She was shocked at how true that one answer was to her. “I have a very good feeling about him. “He loves me, Lisa. I don’t have to question it. He shows me daily.”

Lisa nodded. “You know if you’re happy, I’m happy right?”

  “I know.”

After another hug, she was on her way. Amelia drove a little faster to get back to Liam. It was hard being by herself after weeks of people wanting to kill her for a piece of paper.

When she arrived at home, Liam was on the porch fixing the light. He turned as she pulled up and Amelia hurried from the car and all but dove into his chest. He kissed the back of her head.

  “Hey, what’s wrong?” Liam asked.

“Nothing is wrong.” She held onto him. “I just—I love you.”

“Oh sweetie.” He stepped away from her to frame her face with his large palms. “I love you too.”

With tears in her eyes, she cuddled into him again. “Don’t let go—okay?”

“I won’t.” Liam held her tighter. “Not ever…”
