  “Dragon?” Ara asked, silently.

  “Just go with it, okay?”

  “Fine.”

“Apology accepted,” Charlie replied. “Her name is Ara, by the way. And she is the mightiest dragon you’ll ever see.”

“And what is your name?” Captain Sheeran managed to ask in a steady voice.

Impressive. He got over the sheer terror pretty quickly, Charlie noted.

“I am Charlie,” he replied, then paused in thought. “King Charlie. Now, take me to my castle.”

“Wait. Did you just make yourself king?”

“Why not? You ate the old one.”

“By that logic, shouldn’t I be king?”

“I doubt they could make a crown that big.”

Charlie and his friends were provided with horses, the men eager to please their new ruler. The floating boxes that carried their supplies were a marvel, though not as much as the dragon that escorted them, flying low overhead as she surveyed the countryside.

King Charlie. I like it. But where the hell did we wind up this time? Charlie wondered as they rode.

The fog thinned the further they went, dissipating entirely as they rounded a pair of hills. Charlie looked at the sky, marveling at the stars.

Crazy. Some of the constellations even look like––

Adrenaline flooded his veins, his magic spiking involuntarily from shock.

“What is it, Charlie?” Ara asked, sensing his flash of distress. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I am. But, Ara, I recognize these stars. And I know that moon.”

  “You do?”

“Yes,” he replied, the reality of his situation setting in. “Looked at it my whole life. I have no idea how it happened, and it looks like we’re a few thousand years early, but I’m home, Ara. This is Earth.”

  “Your world? Your galaxy?”

“Yep. Some way, somehow, I’m finally home. And I’m a king.”

  But Wait, there’s more!

  About the Author

A native Californian, Scott Baron was born in Hollywood, which he claims may be the reason for his rather off-kilter sense of humor.

Before taking up residence in Venice Beach, Scott first spent a few years abroad in Florence, Italy before returning home to Los Angeles and settling into the film and television industry, where he has worked as an on-set medic for many years.

Aside from mending boo-boos and owies, and penning books and screenplays, Scott is also involved in indie film and theater scene both in the U.S. and abroad.
