Sela realizing there was no reprieve from the grey eyed demon leaning over her, cackled out a laugh then said. “Never grey one, you will never know when he comes for you.”
Charlie with a nod and in a dispassionate voice stated. “So be it, go to your death knowing I will find him and he too will die. You protected no one with your silence.” Before Sela could spew anymore words, she snapped the faeries neck and dropped the lifeless body to the floor. She whirled around crouching into a defensive position when she heard a sound behind her.
Storm stood inside the doorway eyeing the female that resembled his Charlie and saw only the assassin. She growled as she crouched over the dead body warning him to stay away from her. Storm knew if she ran, which he could see her thinking of doing she would not come back. Fear of what he would think of what he had witnessed her do. This he knew would keep her running, no matter that she loved him or their young. She would never believe he could love her for doing what she was born to do. Protect those she loved.
So Storm did what he always did and said bluntly ignoring her warning. “Cara is with Kelsey and Justice. I will have that disposed of.” Indicating the body on the floor. He had already called Reighn and Elijah. They waited outside their home for him to signal they could enter.
Charlie still on the killing edge nodded. Storm moved carefully to her and gently took her chin in his hand and lifted her face to his. “Come back now Charlie. The threat is gone and your family awaits. Do not leave us we need and love you. Come back to me now my shadow.”
He placed his lips against hers and as she opened her mouth to receive his kiss, a spark of remembered love sprang to life. A touch of dragon’s breath flowed into her lungs and through her system. She closed her eyes and moved the inches to him letting his arms surround her in his warmth. His dragon crooned to her as her body softened, he kissed her cheek, her eyes and whispered in her ear.
“Now there you are, there is my shadow. My Charlie.” He soothed her heart and soul as she took in one shuddering breath and then another and soon she was more of herself again. Storm enfolded the love of his life in his arms and picked her up carrying her to their young. He and his dragon at peace. She was here and safe. Charlie shivered as she came back to herself carried in her shadow’s arms she let the warmth of his love surround her. When he placed her on their bed and sat beside her Cara crawled into her arms as he picked Justice up and cradled him to his shoulder.
Charlie lifted her hand and petted the still trembling kitten between them. Knowing it was not only fear but impotent anger that made her daughter shiver, she said to Kelsey. “I know you are angry and scared kitten, but everything you did was right. You protected your sister until your daddy and I could come for you. For that we are very, very proud of you, our sweet brave Kelsey but now it is time to shift back. We need to hold you little one to know you are alright. Mama needs that.”
Instantly a little shower of sparkles appeared in place of the kitten and then Kelsey threw herself into her mama’s arms as tears poured from her eyes. Cara petted Kelsey's hair as Storm with Justice against his shoulder held Charlie as she held their daughters.
Sometime later, the room was filled with sound and people as the family. Her large wonderful noisy family arrived to make sure all were safe. Kelsey and Cara were taken from her arms and hugged.
Rene` flicked his fingers, and Kelsey was dressed in a red dress, as little ones could not shift with clothes on. Then she was held by every male and female there and they were all there. Babies, young, faeries. Grandparents, aunties and uncles everyone.
The Queen, kissed Charlie’s forehead then said. “I am sorry niece.”
Charlie shrugged. “Me too… but she had my babies.”
Scarlett’s face hardened. “For that alone. I should raise her and kill her all over again.”
Which made Charlie and Storm lean away from the furious faerie as they shuddered, realizing she meant it. Elijah smiled at Charlie and Storm as he placed his hands on Scarlett’s shoulders and said. “My light, Kelsey is asking for you.”
Her hands flapped about as she said. “Oh my sweet kitten.” She whirled from them and went straight to Kelsey. Elijah murmured so only they could hear. “We took care of everything. Kelsey’s room will be cleaned and painted. Sparrow is overseeing that now and niece I am glad you are well.” He kissed her forehead as Scarlett had done.
Storm asked him. “She will not really do that, right?”
Elijah smiled. “I will endeavor to change her mind.” He grinned as he scooped Justice up into his arms and walked to where Scarlett was cuddling Kelsey, and Cara was in Edith’s arms. Charlie whispered. “You notice he didn’t say she couldn’t!”
“I noticed!”
Rene` walked over and dragged Charlie up into his arms, he said nothing just hugged her and then released her to Verity. He clapped Storm on his shoulder then walked from the room stealing Cara from Edith as he went. Charlie looked after him. Verity hugged her. “He is upset, when he calms down he will talk to you, he is thankful he was here. It is hitting him hard that he could have not been home.”
“Oh!’
“Do not worry, Rene` needs sometimes to be slapped upside the head as Edee says.”
Causing Charlie and Storm to grin as she walked off following her shadow. Reighn called out. “Family, food is in the kitchen, June and Ella are cooking. I am starving.” He winked at Charlie when there was a mass exit from their bedroom.
She turned to her shadow and leant her head on his chest breathing in his unique scent of thunder. She felt his arms go around her and heard the whispered Mine!
Which could not help but make her smile. Yes, they were all hers.
Storms dragon smiled as he thought.
Their shadow killed.
She called it Justice!
They called it protecting family!
