Quake

No … because Trent shifted and looked around.
At last, Ramak spoke very softly. “I admire your intentions, and your desire to do the right thing. I hope we can all be there for others in times like these, family or strangers.” Another pause. “But going north is suicide.” He turned away. “Reorganize the bags. We’re splitting up.”
So we did. In silence.
There was a moment, when it started, when we didn’t know, when Jackson moved with Ramak and Jeff turned away, Christine following, and the rest of us stood in the rain.
I looked at Ramak, opening the trunk of the sedan. Looked at Jeff, opening the door of the station wagon. Looked at the pavement, the darkness, the rain, falling, falling, puddles and flood waters and cups that run over. I looked to the road out. I thought about family and east and west and how narrow these lines really were. I thought … that this was the sort of thinking no one should ever be forced to do.
Nazia swallowed and turned to the station wagon.
Trent took my hand, watching me, his brows drawn in, eyes miserable. There was no frame right for this shot.
I looked across the parking lot, over new puddles that hadn’t been there even an hour ago; how quickly things can change, how deep the water can rise.
I shut my eyes. A sharp inhale rattled violently, catching a dozen times, all the way down my throat to burn my lungs. With tears mingling into rain down my face, I turned to the sedan.
Dear Reader
Thank you for joining in this Love Versus World adventure! Ready to escape into the unknown? Pick up where Quake leaves off with Storm, now available on Kindle!
At the time of this writing, our world is experiencing a global crisis in the form of an expanding pandemic. I’m personally among the millions who have at least temporarily lost a day-job, income, insurance, etc. Pretty damn scary. However, also at the time of this writing, I’m healthy and blessed here in the Seattle area where our predicted Megaquake has yet to strike.
By purchasing this novella, and the rest of the trilogy, or reading on KU, along with other independent authors’ books, be they reverse harem, general romance, or any genre, you are supporting a community of artists and creators who have never needed your help as much as now. At the same time, people in all walks of life and work are struggling. Thank you, truly, for every moment and cent you share with indie books. We could not do this without you.
If you enjoyed Quake, it’s an extra huge help and support to post a quick review on Amazon, letting other browsing readers know if a title is worth checking out. It only takes a few words and can really make a difference. Your reviews and shares of Love Versus World on any social media or among friends are hugely appreciated.

Sincerely hoping you’re enjoying this trilogy with Brook, Trent, Jackson, and Ramak (more on him in Storm) as much as I’ve been enjoying writing it. I have the most wonderful readers and can’t wait to share the next book with you!
Thank you!
