‘I really need to go to the toilet!’ she said loudly.

‘Shut up,’ Thalos hissed in her ear.

‘But I really need to go to the toilet.’

Thalos’s hand went around her throat.

‘This position is pressing on my bladder,’ she said. ‘And it’s making me need to really go.’

Thalos growled in disgust and pushed her away from him.

Rhona braced herself for the fall and twisted.

‘Ah, my ankle!’ she cried out, reaching for the knife. Thalos looked down at her with heat in his eyes. He leaned down, his hands resting on her ankle and bore his weight down on her supposedly injured limb. Rhona didn’t need to fake the hiss of pain his weight evoked.

She heard the medic chuckle and turned to find Sidha wrestling with the medic’s hand to stop it going down his pants.

‘I’m ready to go,’ she thought at Deyuul.

Three shots were fired into the room. Thalos let go of her ankle, and Rhona slipped the knife out of her boot and the sheath at the same time. She turned the blade and thrust it up at Thalos’s chin. The Amaran moved back, and the knife missed its mark. Instead, it sliced up the right side of Thalos’s face, grazed against bone and sliced his right eye open before stopping when it hit the brow bone.

  Thalos screamed in agony.

The medic released Sidha. ‘Drexan!’ he called, scrambling over to the injured Amaran.

As Rhona jumped up, she saw the two Raqhan standing, turning, surprised by her actions. ‘Makios!’ she yelled.

Makios, Vanoor and Vella entered the room. The Raqhan stared for a moment before gunfire drew their attention. They raised their guns towards the bigger threats.

Makios was firing straight ahead at the Raqhan. Vella aimed at the Raqhan on the mezzanine with Vanoor joining her.

Rhona scuttled on hands and knees towards Sidha, who grabbed the radiant and was scrambling to his feet.

She stood and took a step but was immediately tripped. Falling, she saw the medic growling at her, his hand around one ankle. Rhona saw his medic’s bag next to him. She grabbed it and swung it at his face. Phenan wasn’t able to dodge it in time, and she took the opportunity and loosened grip to scramble away from him. He dived after her.

A shot separated them, and Rhona turned to find Vanoor running across the deck, a furious look on his face as he reoriented to fire upon Thalos and his medic.

‘Phenan,’ Drexan’s voice cut through his anger. ‘Get me out of here.’

Phenan glanced at Vanoor, real fear on his face for the first time. Turning back to Rhona, he sneered at her but backed away, helping Drexan to his feet.

‘I’m gonna come for you, human whore!’ Thalos shouted at her. His right hand was covering his face. Teal blood covered his face and hand. ‘I’m going to make you pay!’

Phenan and Thalos disappeared out of the side door.

A moment later, Vanoor passed her and ran to the door. Shots from either Thalos or the medic stopped him, so he took cover and fired through, inching towards it to follow.

A blast of some weapon went past her. Rhona looked up and saw Coll on the mezzanine aiming his gun at her, his face twisted in vehement hatred. He aimed again. Rhona tried to move but her body refused to respond to her brains commands to dive out of the way. Something crashed into her and brought her to the floor as another blast went by her. Rhona looked up and saw Sidha’s face hovering above hers.

A roar of pure rage was followed by blasts and the sounds of heavy boots meeting deck plating. A silence followed and was soon replaced with sounds of a scuffle and the dull thud of meaty thumps. A moment later, Makios started shouting. Every word was punctuated by a blow.

‘You will never touch her!’ he shouted. ‘Never touch her again!’

‘It’s all right,’ Vella called. ‘You can come out.’

Rhona and Sidha looked at each other. Slowly, they got on their hands and knees and looked up.

On the Mezzanine above her, Makios was beating Coll to a bloody pulp. She raised her head farther and saw Dalus lying amidst a blossoming pool of bright blue blood her digital art teacher would have called cerulean.

‘Makios,’ Rhona called. He was still punching Coll. ‘Makios,’ she said firmer.

He stopped and looked at her.

‘Thalos left. He’ll go back to the ship and wait for us if we don’t get out before him.’

He stared at her for a moment, indecision on his face.

‘I’m pretty sure he’s dead,’ she said.

Makios looked at the body he was holding. After a moment, he nodded. ‘I believe you’re right.’ He stood, hefted the body and threw it down to their level.

He jumped over the railing and landed on the floor. Without breaking his stride, he pushed crates and barrels out of his way.

Rhona went around the barrels Thalos had dragged her behind and met him halfway. He lifted her in his arms and sighed. She wrapped her legs around him, and they held each other tight.

‘You are never to leave the ship again,’ he growled. ‘Never leaving the ship again.’

Sidha walked up behind him with the radiant.

  ‘The Todaal.’

‘Deyuul and Dabin have them,’ Makios said. ‘They’re almost back at the ship.’

‘Thank God,’ Rhona whispered. ‘Can we go home now and get out of here?’

‘Vanoor, we’re going!’ Vella shouted. A moment later, the red demon who was her friend appeared at their side.

Makios nodded as he turned and started walking.

‘Makios, let me down,’ she said.

He shook his head. ‘Never letting you go again,’ he said and continued back to the ship.

Makios didn’t let her go until he was standing on the bridge and they were about to lift off.

‘Who brought cushions to my bridge?’

‘Oops.’ Rhona reached down, still securely fixed in his arms.

He looked at her, expression stern. ‘Put them in our quarters,’ he said. ‘Be quick. I want you strapped in.’

She nodded, kissed him, slipped out of his arms, gathered the cushions and ran back to their room. She threw them in without looking and shut the door, returning to the bridge.

‘Vrokking whore!’ Thalos’s face was on part of the screen. ‘I’m coming for you, you vrokking whore.’

‘Mute,’ Makios snarled. ‘Where is he?’ he asked when the screen went silent.

It felt like every time she left the bridge, she came back to find Thalos on the screen.

‘Just cleared his landing pad. Deyuul said, his fingers moving like water over the controls. Kenian exited, returning to the engine room. At the same time, Vanoor slipped into the co-pilot seat and Deyuul, who was just better at flying the ship, took the pilot seat.

‘Can he catch us,’ Rhona asked, slipping into one of the seats at the back of the bridge and strapping in.

Deyuul shook his head. ‘He’s too far away and we’re faster.’

‘Get us out of here,’ Makios said.

Deyuul nodded. The ship was already lifting off.

  ‘Put him back on.’

Rhona looked at Thalos and saw he was raging at the screen. Spittle was flying at the camera. The cut she had gifted him was still bleeding, and every pull, every word pulled the edges farther and farther apart. His eye was leaking gel, and just the look of it was making her feel sick.

‘…gut you from cunt to sternum!’ Thalos screamed onto the bridge.

‘Thalos.’ Makios’s voice was harsh. Authoritative. It demanded attention, and Thalos fell silent, paying his attention to the Kathen.

‘The next time I see you,’ his words were a rumbling warning, ‘I’m going to kill you.’

Thalos opened his mouth to retaliate. Makios reached forward, and Thalos disappeared from the screen. ‘Let’s get out of here,’ he said.

Deyuul flew them out of the hanger.

‘Find his ship on my feed,’ Makios said.

  Va
noor worked for a moment until, in the corner of the screen, they saw the station appear. Far in the distance, a small dot was moving away from the station and towards them.

‘Jump,’ Makios said. A moment later, a light flared from the dot.

  ‘What’s that?’ Rhona asked.

The stars burst across the screen, and the corner view changed to falling stars.

‘He launched a missile at us,’ Makios said. ‘I think we angered him.’ He turned to Rhona and smiled.

‘You’re covered in Raqhan blood,’ she said.

‘You’re covered in Amaran blood,’ he replied. ‘We’ll go take a shower in a metri.’

  Rhona smiled and nodded eagerly.

Heat rose in Makios’s eyes. ‘Deyuul, take us to Dahnus Ascent,’ he said. ‘File a jump to Keffir.’ He sighed. He looked so tired. ‘Let’s go home to Tessa.’

  ‘Yes, please,’ Deyuul answered.

Makios turned. By the time he reached her, Rhona had unstrapped herself. She stood to meet him. He took her hand and led her to their room.

He walked in ahead of her and turned the light on. The cushions were scattered on the floor.

Without paying any attention to them, they both stripped off. The clothes they were wearing were covered in blood.

‘Lost cause,’ Makios said and threw them in the trash. He walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower.

‘Come on,’ he said and stepped inside.

Rhona walked over to it and looked inside. It was a spacious shower, but there was a lot of Kathen in it.

‘Come on,’ he said again, this time he was smiling. The water ran over him in rivulets, washing the Raqhan blood away.

Rhona stepped in and into his arms. She felt him encompass her for a moment, then he was running his hands over her body to dislodge the Amaran blood. He turned the water off and poured out some soap.

Thoroughly, he washed every inch of her. When he reached between her legs, there was no more soap—just his hands, fingers, tongue. Now practised, he brought her to a crashing orgasm.

When he was done, he poured out shampoo and washed her hair. By the time he was done, she was limbless. But she didn’t want to leave it there.

She turned to face him as the shampoo washed out and poured soap into her hands. Makios shut off the water and watched her as she massaged the soap into his skin, taking special care of his nipples, which she felt needed an extra touch of tongue for a proper, in-depth cleaning. She knelt before him, and he watched as she soaped his long, muscular legs, one at a time.

When she got close to his groin on the first leg, his cock was bobbing and throbbing. She cleaned around it. Makios groaned in need and rested his head on the shower wall so that he almost completely surrounded her. One done she went down the other leg and grinned when he moaned in growing need and frustration.

Only when he was rinsed off did she take him in her mouth, ignoring all protests she explored each ridge, each nodule of his cock with mouth and tongue until he spilt. He pressed his hand to her head, and thrust his hips, burrowing his cock deeper down her throat, and cried out, ending in a hiss as he spurted down inside her. She swallowed, deliberately flexing her throat around his cock and feeling his hips buck in response. Then slowly, one ridge at a time, she guided him out of her mouth, licking and tonguing him every inch of the way.

She stood up, and he pulled her into his arms, his mouth connecting with hers.

‘My goddess,’ he whispered. ‘Never letting you go. Never letting anything happen to you again. Never letting you out of this shower, or my bed. Never losing you.’ He kissed her again. ‘I love you, my Rhona.’

‘I love you too, Makios,’ she whispered back.

They held onto each other for a few metri. Finally, she withdrew a little and smiled.

‘Get on your knees,’ she said.

‘Do you wish to cum again, goddess?’ he grinned at her.

‘Shortly,’ she admitted, ‘but I was thinking I need to wash your hair.’

If Rhona had known it would elicit this much happiness, she would have been washing Makios’s hair from day one. Eagerly, he got down on his knees with his back to her.

Logistically speaking, it wasn’t going to be an impossible task, but it would be interesting. She emptied some shampoo into her hand and massaged it into Makios’s skull. When she neared the section where horn met head, he groaned in deep satisfaction.

‘No one has done this for me since I was a child,’ he said, his voice a little sad.

‘Well, I’ll do this every morning for you if you’d like, my love.’

‘I would,’ he said. He took hold of one hand, pulled it to his lips and kissed it.

Carefully, taking hold of his horns, she reached down and kissed the back of his head. Her fingers returned to his scalp, and she continued massaging it.

‘Your fingers are too big to get in here, aren’t they?’

‘Yes,’ Makios answered, then groaned. This groan was a little more sexual in nature.

Slowly, Rhona rolled her fingers around the skin where it met his horns. She watched him shiver in response.

She finished shampooing and rinsed his hair out. Then walked around, bent, and ran her tongue along the base of the three horns on his right side. His hand whipped out and grabbed her hip as he groaned again. She guided him back until he was resting on his legs and ran her tongue and fingers over the base of all of his horns, caressing one side with her tongue, fingers running in butterfly touches over the other, then swapping them over.

‘Rhona,’ he gasped. Both hands were on her hips now. They gripped her tightly, digging into the meat of her ass.

She licked the base of a horn and gasped when Makios sucked one nipple into his mouth. He released it a moment later and kissed up her breast to her neck. He moved one arm to her back and lifted her, rising to his knees so that he could kiss up her throat, up her chin and to her lips.

She could feel his hard cock against her thighs.

They kissed for a long moment, his lips firm, his kisses soft, his tongue licking against her lips. It was a gentle kiss, filled with everything they felt for one another; the fear of what they’d just been through and the relief it was over. Then he was sucking her other nipple into his mouth hard, hot drops of desire swelled in her abdomen and trickled down her leg.

  ‘Makios, please,’ she gasped.

He lifted her gently. A moment later, the head of his cock was breaching her. She felt every texture of him as he entered her until her knees were shaking with need. Makios pulled back until just the head of his cock was inside her, then slowly entered her again. He did this several times until she was begging him to fuck her. Finally, he pushed her up against the shower wall and did just that. She knew the ship could hear her when she came; she didn’t care. A moment later, Makios roared. When he was done, he leaned heavily against her.

Rhona looked around. ‘We need more space,’ she said.

  Makios nodded in agreement.

They dried and went to bed, forgetting everything except each other.

Rhona walked into the mess hall. Makios had been on the bridge since before she woke up, and she was starving. When she sat down with the Todaal, they were staring at her.

‘Is everything okay?’ she asked, looking from one to the other. When her eyes fell on Vadia, she was smiling.

‘You are very loud.’ The Todaal laughed.

‘Oh my God,’ Rhona said, covering her face.

‘I feel like I must work harder for my Vadia,’ Omin said. Rhona watched him take her hand. Vadia smiled back at him before reaching a hand out, squeezing Rhona’s hand as she looked at her.

  ‘Thank you,’ she said enthusiastically.

Rhona laughed, a snort escaping. ‘You’re welcome.’

‘Were the two of you already together when you were taken?’ She nodded at their joined hands.

  Vadia shook her head.

‘I was in my final year of studies,’ she said. ‘I had
some unproven theories on radiant refinement, so they took me.’

‘Brilliant theories,’ Omin said. He raised her hand to his lips and kissed it. ‘They were proven right in our time there.’

‘And you and the Kathen?’ Vadia said to Rhona.

Rhona gave them the story of the last few weeks. Vadia was an excellent audience and gasped and laughed at all the right parts. When she recounted the story of her uncle, Vadia reached across and took her hand.

  ‘I’m so sorry,’ she said.

Rhona nodded her thanks. When she was done, she looked around at chagrined faces. ‘What is it?’

‘Slavery is legal on our planet,’ Kadian said through clenched teeth.

‘Oh.’ It was the only thing Rhona could think to say.

  ‘Not on yours?’ Omin asked.

Rhona shook her head. ‘In the past, but not for a long time.’

‘Your planet is a bit of a mystery to us,’ Arridis said.

‘And it will remain so, as long as you support slavery.’ Rhona grimaced.

  Arridis frowned at her.

‘I’ve never heard of a race that cared about their slaves’ culture, have you?’

‘You sound angry,’ Arridis said, almost defensively. Rhona looked at him and was sure she was looking at a male who owned slaves, or at least did before he was kidnapped.

Rhona shook her head. ‘I’m not angry—I’m sad. I’m just sad because all I can think about is my mum and dad at home, who probably think I’m dead or better off that way.’ Rhona swallowed. ‘I just really miss my mum and dad.’ Rhona pressed her lips together and focused on not crying. ‘And my little brother, who my mum will be giving birth to any day now.’ Rhona took in a deep breath and let it go. ‘Anyway, enough of this. We’ve all been through the wringer. I’m sure being with the Goedan on that station was no picnic.’

Vadia was rubbing her belly. ‘I miss my ahni and tahdi.’

  Omin rubbed her back.

‘Are those your parents?’ Rhona asked.

Vadia nodded. ‘I haven’t seen them in four solars,’ she said.

‘Makios said that some of your families are meeting us at the Dahnus Ascent station. I hope they’re there.’ She smiled at her.
