I get asked a lot why do I write poetry? I have to say, it’s soothing, it’s a morsel of calm in my chaotic mind. Words are all I have, and I tweak them, arrange them and move them how I see fit. They are my sanctuary, in this tumultuous life.

  ~Alexia Purdy

  Shadows of Blue

All that I have are words,

  I weave them around

  And fumble with their essence,

Until they whisper longingly to me,

  To tell you this,

The things that I never say out loud,

  So that you can know,

And that you can hold within you.

The stories of all I can ever tell you....

And I want to tell you,

The world is a better place

  With you in it,

  No matter the distance

  Or aches we endure,

  You are there,

So I can close my eyes peacefully,

  And sleep with the comfort

  That you exist.

  Without you,

A place I would not want.

  Without you,

The grey is but the shadow of blue.

  Cornered Heart

I met a man, with a heart of stone

It weighed him down, pallid and cold

This heart I saw, he kept locked away

Like buried treasure, a shame to hide

I tried to crack it, reveal its insides

The further I went, the deeper it got

Now confused, is my own heart

As I drown within, the rock he sank

Into my own chest, bitter and cold

  The bite of winter,

  Wraps me with frost

Frozen hard as ice, yet I emerged

Waiting to give the deadened weight

  Of my own rock away

  For someone else to melt

  Devoured

  Do you think of me

  When you’re crying

  Would you want to be

  My only crime

  I think that I

  Would be the kind

  The only one that makes

  You change your mind

  One kiss stolen

  In the night

  One I long for

  In this slight

  What you’re offering

  A bitter deal

  I wet my lips

  A deal to seal

But do you think of me

  Now that I’m gone

  Never to speak

  Of all the wrong

  For I still pay

  Every hour

  For your love

  My fate devoured.

  Down

  I’m still breathing

  Though you left me nothing

  I’m still reeling

  Nothing will save me

  Watching the rain fall

  Its cool caress steals

  My love away

As it makes its way down

  I can’t let go

Your iris sits in my mind

  The full moon

  In my head

  I want to run

  I want to drown

  But I find no strength

  Inside my bones

  Enough

I’ll hold you in my heart

  Until the next embrace

  I’ll keep your warmth

  Next to my soul

  Safe and sound

  Until we meet again

  I wait patiently

  Hoping just to see

  You one more time

  Though I won’t

  Ever say

  What I feel

  Or what I hold inside

  If you ask

  I might tell

  But you won’t ask

  And that’s alright

  Because the grip of

  Your hand

  Tells me plenty

And the smile in your eyes

  Let’s me know the truth

  Of Everything

  Of who you are

  For I see you

  And you see me

  And that is enough

  Hard to Breathe

You make it hard to breathe

Make it so hard to see

I want to bring you around

  Show you what I’ve found

Come take a walk with me

  I promise you won’t bleed

I just want to know you

  Want to just explore you

I’ll take hold of your hand

Bring a light to your eyes

  Stepping across this land

  A Light that shouldn’t die

I think that I could know you

If you would let me adore you

  Let me into your mind

  Wonder just what I’ll find…

  Like Water

  You make me crave you

  Like water

  I stand not a chance

  To withhold

  I have everything for you

  To give freely

  If only you would take

  It all of me

  For all of you

  A simple trade

  A vast exchange

  In the grasp of night

  Your skin a taste

  Your lips in haste

  To drown in your scent

  A death so sweet

  I’d take it in

  Its embrace so right

  Temporary bliss

  Until you leave again

  The searing touch

  Your soft lips trail

  A phantom line

  Across my skin

  Leaves me nostalgic

  Longing once more

  Longing

  Longing, like a fiery space

In which I tend to lie

  I find its arms smoldering

As if I’ve lost my breath

  Leaves me lost and cut

  Blood-red resonance

Yet I find that I still

  Embrace its possession

  The wait so long

  Infinity waits for me

  As the thought of you

  Circles my head

  Never Be the Same

  I know the pieces of

  Your tethered heart

Cut me as they call my name

  I hear the sweet words

  That you say

  As I play

  Into your game

  I’ll never be the same

  I see lines of blood

  Glisten red

The shards of love that sting of pain

  I hope that these

  Destructive lies

  Release me from

  Their restrain

  I’ll never be the same

  Never Say Such Things…

A bit of you, the l
ast of me

A secret place I do keep

  These little things, hidden inside

  Buried so to never reap

Of words unsaid, I hide within

  A pure sweet misery

And every time, I catch some more

  Unrequitedly

  I’ll never say such things

  No matter what that brings

  I’m so in love

  I’m so lost inside

  Hope you won’t mind

  If I stay a while…

I’m fairly sure that these words

  Have no regard from you

If you could hear a phrase of mine

  An auditory clue

What’s kept inside, I dare not show

  For fear you disappear

How long can I encase this heart?

  This fever burning sear

‘Til ashes set, cold and doomed

  This endless storm within

I do believe a hole now sits

Where once a heart stood in

  NOTHING

  I want to feel nothing

  My destructive escape

But a feelin’ always creeps in

  Impossible to evade

  I want just one obsession

  What would it be about?

If I could look deep into you

  What would I rip out?

Do you feel like time avoids you?

  Think it wraps around me

  Squeezes and holds on tight

Blinds me against all I see

  Why so complicated?

It seems to drag me in

Fight as I can and failing

  Leaves me lost and longing.

  Paralyzed

  Are you satisfied

  Or are you not?

  Are you spun around

  And distraught?

  Solely petrified

  By your touch

  Only Lonely

  Far too much

  Your intensity

  Cuts like glass

  Thoughts of nothing

  In one tight mass

  Need to comprehend

  What you have said

  Knowing too well that

  You mess with my head

  Slowly manipulated

  Twisted and tied

  Around your finger

  Like a discarded lie

  I know I should mind

  Know I should now go

  But what keeps me here

  Paralyzed so?

  Sand

I’m sure that you’re looking for

  Something a little more secure

But I’m standing here right now

  And that seems enough somehow

I’m going to get under your skin

  Wanting to make you think

  Come here, take my hand

Sit with me on the sand

It’s hard to be ‘the one’

I’d rather not take it on

But you make it simple for me

  I will try and believe

Because you are under my skin

  Now I’ve stopped to think

I’ve wanted to hold your hand

And sit with you on the sand

  Satie

  I saw a portrait of a man

  Whose thoughts remain unseen

  His written words embracing me

  He speaks, a voice serene

He writes of times and memories

  Like some forgotten lapse

  Vivid places surfacing

  With every type and tap

  Speaks of sights and wonderment

I’ve yet to touch and know

  Wish I could accompany

  To follow where he goes

  Intrigued, I do find myself,

  Much to my dismay

To find that I’m so mesmerized

  In such disarming ways

  I’ll wait a slight, patiently

  Until we meet once more

To travel in your written words

  An intellectual pour.

  Sleep

  Evades my inner senses

  Breathe

  To keep it real

  The ticking clicks

  The visions trick

  The hours pass me by

  Trouble

  Circles behind my eyes

  Torture

  My mind instigates

  The shadows shift

  The silence drifts

  The nights pour into me

  Wither

  Inside my twisted brain

  Torment

  Miles of spinning

  The air turns sour

  The restless power

  Overtakes this place

  Sustenance

You are a dream of a dream

  A summer breeze scorching

  A dancing memory

You are what the grasses call

  When the winter goes awry

  You are the sugar sweet

  Of what salty lips taste

  A beating heart’s sustenance

  A dancer’s careful step

  No other walks your place

  None other can ever make

  This landscape’s imagery

  Deep inside a thought

  Lost amongst the wind

  Returning once again

Like the seasons one by one

  Down, around, up and out

A star glowing in the night

  Upon my wistful mind

  So I may dream again.

  The Sum of None

Life is all we make it.

It can be empty and barren,

  Soulless and vastly aired.

  It can be withered, rot,

  Broken down, this space.

  To be filled with,

  Something other.

  A finite liquid, spilling,

  Nourishing, sweet as honey.

  It could be.

  A poison, burning.

  I’m left bothered,

  Stolen and missing.

I was certain I had it,

Maybe it was a lie all along.

  A life of something,

  Made of nothing.

  That seems to remain,

  Vast with empty.

  Lingering tendrils ,

Holding on to what I made.

  Slowly piecing and fusing ,

  Shards to make something again.

  Cut

What am I to you, amplified?

  I can’t see myself reflected

  In your eyes

I see the earth before me,

  Like a withered place

Only wants to strip me down

  And take it all away

  I hear somebody calling,

  Echoes down this place

  I feel the raindrops pouring,

  Longing for your face

  Thoughts of never again,

  Won’t let me see

  My shattered tears are running

As they cut in to me

  ~A. Purdy

My reply to you would be simple, I would tell you that to walk away is noble, to stand your ground is harsh, to say that we are anything but leaves and whispers in the wind are a fool’s notion that the heart beats for anything else besides itself. We are the reflections of the stars in the moonless sky, the darkened parts of our minds are void less like any playground and but yet we still mend our broken wings to fly again.

  ~ B. Daniels

  Whisper

  Heat of breath

  Silk of lips

  Touch of skin

  And fingertips

  Caress of want

  Engulfed in lust

  Give and take

  Into us

  A whisper sweet

  Words that burn

  Red of mark

  Left to discern

  Taste of flesh

  Salty wants

  Disarming look

  Invited taunt

  Satiated sigh
>
  Heart beat slows

  Dreams now still

  Night wind flows

  A Temporary Death

  Within this temporary death

  The reeds follow the wind

Grassy waves tap at my skin

I found a pool of liquid life

  And sank my heart inside

Letting it sink into its depth

  Until it was no more

Yet I can still hear its pulse

  Vibrating the surface

  Like a tumbling wake

  That calls back to me

  As I walked away.

  Wait For It

I wonder how long it will take

  Before you run away

  Any moment coming now

I’ve known of such a day

  I offer only words

  Where none should ever tread

  These spoken from within

  Ones I’ve never said

  The future’s here

  A place I loathe

  I watch the clock

  As time unfolds

  Taking stock

  Of thoughts within

  Hoping you might

  Want to take them in.

  Whispers of Dreams

  (A Poetic Collection)

  By

  Alexia Purdy

  Thorns

  I remember flowers,

  Where only thorns grow now.

Of placid times, where only rhymes,

  Would ever run afoul.

For your face, like a grace,

  Which never came to me.

  Simple splinter, now embedded

  In my memory.

  Broken Wing

There is nothing like a broken wing,

To fail you in a flight.

And nothing like the pain it brings,

That robs your sleep at night.

Yet birds, no pity, for themselves feel,

  When lying next to death.

Not one tear do they shed,

  While losing their last breath.

  While I Wait…

  Fate,

So sensitive to every move we sway.

  Love,

So fragile to every word we say.

  Time,

A fire that consumes the day.

  And hate,

  Swallows us in for pay.

  Life,

Can you feel me washing away?

  And Death,

So certain that you will stay.

  Hope,

  So compressed in the faraway.

  But Me,

  I guess I’ll be okay.

  No Pain

  I see your face,

  In every place.

  A lingering memory,

  Like a poltergeist.

  Never allows me peace,

  Never let’s go.

  I can hear your voice,

  Still lingering in my ear.

  Never lets me hear,

  Anything else.

Your scent all over the room,

  Like an embedded thorn,

  Which never comes out.

  I can’t remember,

  When there was no pain.

  A Lonesome Place

I find your heart a lonesome place

  Engulfed within a fruitless waste

The pulse of a thousand cells

  Left loneliness inside your hell

  Dark, dank and rancid sick

  Lost a heartbeat silver quick

  Danced once more in turbulence

  Fractured love’s impetulance

Escape’s my only thought of late

  Fear and hope initiates

Down the hall of loathsome doom

Out the door to shining moon

To breathe again the air and light

Shaking off this cloak of night

  Waters Deep

  You're the heat of summer

  In winter's embrace...

  The life force

  In the night of death

  My heart that beats

  In my chest

  The crimson blood

  Streaming in my veins

  You are like breath

  In waters deep
