Karlol Page 17

Narmer and his soldiers appeared to be too distracted with their festivities to pay attention until a spaceship suddenly appeared overhead, casting a shadow on the field.

All the soldiers dispersed, evading the landing craft. The ship sent Karlol’s hair swaying behind him as it descended. Narmer drew his sword and dashed toward the Prince, his sword aimed at his eye.

  “What is that?” Narmer shouted.

Karlol shrugged. “I’m as surprised as you are.”

The spaceship was round with a spinning base. As soon as it landed, the whirring stopped. The door descended like a drawbridge, Jocelyn stepping outside with a leather suit and a machine gun.

  “You again!” Narmer bellowed.

“Step back!” she warned. “If you dare hurt him, I’ll make fucking mincemeat out of you.”

Narmer scoffed, charging toward her with his sword. With a straight face, Jocelyn pulled the trigger, and his body went flying across the field.

“Is he dead?” one of the soldiers shouted.

Jocelyn shifted her aim to the source of the sound, the soldiers cowering.

“Anyone else want some?” she shouted.

  Chapter 26

Jocelyn stood by the window in Karlol’s room and stared out at the blue skies around her. They had returned home to much jubilation that had quickly been replaced by utter confusion. For starters, the Vogel folk had been very surprised to see the spaceships, massive as they were, rising into the skies that had not been invaded by machines in generations.

She had found it amusing, and in a way, exhilarating. She didn’t want to think what would have happened if she had stepped off the ship without Karlol.

A knock on the door startled her, and she turned just as Karlol stepped in.

“How did he take it?” she asked.

Karlol shrugged. “To be honest, I thought he’d be a lot angrier about all this. But my father has a way of looking at the brighter side of situations. I think his exact words were, let there be progress.”

  Jocelyn smiled. “Smart man.”

  “How are you?”

She shrugged. “Shell shocked? Glad we didn’t all die, I guess. Happy your uncle is out of the way.”

  “About that-”

“Listen, I’m sorry, but he was out to kill us all,” she interrupted.

Karlol moved to her quickly, took her in his arms and wrapped his wings around them. “You saved us. No one is going to hate you for doing the right thing. The only right thing. You really are the savior.”

Jocelyn smiled and shrugged again. “Hey, I’m not so sure about that...”

He laughed at that, then bent down and kissed her. She melted into his embrace, kissing him back, lips grazing against each other as she breathed him in.

“I’m just happy you’re alive,” she whispered. “I’m sorry I walked out on you.”

“Me too. I hated leaving it as we did, and the thought of never seeing you again.” He closed his eyes. “You’re incredible.”

  “You really think so?”

He gave her another kiss and smiled. “I do. You’ve changed a lot since you got here. I would have never thought you could pull off what you did.”

“I’ve come a long way since the dungeons.”

“Indeed,” Karlol said, kissing her again.

She felt him harden against her thigh and raised an eyebrow in amusement. “Someone’s excited about that.”

“What can I say? I love strong women.”

“Oh, so I was just a plaything before this?”

He pressed her closer. “You were definitely a lot more than that.”

She leaned into him, kissed his neck. “Oh yes? Tell me more...”

He picked her up easily, their lips pressed hard against each other, and moved her to the bed. He gently laid her down, his weight on top of hers, wings protectively covering them.

“I messed up, and I’m sorry,” he said. “I should have listened to you. Again, I shouldn’t have walked away from you like that.”

She ran a finger across his cheek, staring and losing herself in his eyes. “I’m just glad you’re okay.”

“I’ll spend a lifetime making up for it if you let me, Jose.”

She smiled at him, pulled him close and kissed him again. Her hands quickly found the buttons of his vest and undressed him as he planted soft kisses across her jaw and down her neck, crossing to the other side as he continued along her shoulder. She ran her hands across his toned chest, closing her eyes as she felt every kiss, every touch, every breath, send waves of pleasure coursing through her.

She had no idea when he had undressed her, their movements almost like fluid within each other, as if in sync. He lay on top of her, warm bodies pressed against each other, his hardness nestled between her thighs and rubbing gently as the heat in her body rose.

He bent his head, kissing her breasts and gently taking one nipple and then the other into his mouth. Sucking gently, nibbling lightly, hands on her hips as he devoured her. Her fingers entangled in his hair and she breathed his name softly as she moved her hips against him, feeling him get even harder, herself wetter.

His wings encompassed them, and through the feathers narrow rays of light penetrated, falling on his face and body as if strategically outlining him for her. He looked absolutely gorgeous in the light, and it was all she could do not to stop this and just stare. He caught her watching, smiled, and gently spread her legs. Before she knew it, he was sliding inside her, slowly, passionately, lovingly, and she welcomed him with every cell in her body.

Her hips rose to meet his, and as he moved, she rocked against him. Slow and deep, he picked up the rhythm just slightly, enough for her silent gasps to turn into moans of pleasure. As he rocked against her, she could feel her body heat up further, and with an arch of her back, the orgasm hit hard and strong.

Karlol didn’t stop, picking up the pace even more, his breath coming in gasps against her neck. With a few more thrusts, he let out a long groan, his own orgasm making him shudder in her arms.

She held him tight, a wide smile on her face, her eyes closed as she felt his heartbeat against her chest, his breath against her face.

“I love you,” she whispered, holding him even tighter, never wanting this to end.

He rolled onto his side and pulled her closer. It was like she belonged in his embrace.

“I love you too. I don’t ever want to lose you,” he gowled. “Never.”

  “Then don’t,” she smiled.

  “Marry me.”

Jocelyn’s eyes flew open and she pushed up onto her elbows, looking at him in confusion. “What did you just say?”

“Marry me,” he smiled. “Marry me and make me the happiest Vogel alive.”

She smiled, her heart suddenly fluttering. “Is that even possible?”

  “Is that a yes?”

  “Karlol!”

  “Is it a yes?”

She smacked his chest with her hand. “Yes, you beautiful birdman, yes!”

They laughed and he pulled her into his arms again as they passionately kissed.

  Epilogue

A Vogel guard waved at a human acquaintance as he flew between the Kingdom’s bridges, where humans jogged and couples took walks to admire the Vogel civilization.

From one of the treehouses, a human poked her head outside the window, shouting, “Vlallis? Will you please give me a flight home?”

The guard shook his head, smiling at the fact that female humans would walk miles on the newly constructed bridges just to woo young Vogels, many of whom could be seen twirling in the air with a woman in their arms. It seemed that many of these humans preferred the Vogel lifestyle to their own.

He beat his wings twice to send himself higher, flying past a Vogel child and a human about the same age dueling one another with fallen branches, while their mothers sat nearby chattering whilst sipping on drinks from stone cups.

The guard finally landed in the courtyard of the Vogel palace, fix
ing his attire before he dashed to the throne room. The double doors were open, but before he could fly inside, they were slammed shut.

“Our King is busy now. He’s not taking visitors,” another Royal guard said.

  “It’s urgent.”

“You can sit in the waiting room until he’s done, Alvik,” he replied.

“What is it?” a muffled voice shouted from the inside.

“It’s Alvik, my lord. He claims he brings urgent news.”

  “Let him in.”

Alvik smugly smiled, fixing his robe as he rushed to the throne, kneeling before the Vogel leader.

“Quickly now. What is it?” Karlol demanded. He turned to look at his Queen, Jocelyn who was sitting beside him. They shot each other a look of such intense love, that Alvik diverted his gaze. He cleared his throat.

“My King. We have received an alien message,” Alvik began.

“Aliens?” Karlol rose from his throne.

“Yes, my lord. From a ship just outside our planet. They come in peace and they’re requesting a meeting with Your Majesty,” he added.

Karlol knitted his brows. “About what?”

“I was told it’s something about an Intergalactic Alliance, and I’ve been told it’s urgent as well,” Alvik replied.

“What planet are they from?” Karlol asked.

He shook his head. “From several, Your Majesty. But the speaker says she is from a planet called Hagran. She says her name is,” he paused, rummaging through his pocket and slipping out a note. “Queen Liz Janeck.”

Jocelyn rose from her throne, gasping.

Karlol turned to her, tenderly taking her hand. “My love. Do you know of her?”

Jocelyn’s eyes watered. “Yes Karlol. She’s one of my missing friends.”
