“Oh, thank you, Jashawn. That was very kind of you. I’m going to put it under the tree until later,” Mavis said, and I nodded.
She sounded surprised that I had bought them some gifts, and when she smiled at me again, it was genuine this time.
Dior smiled too, and then pecked me on the lips.
“Thank you, baby.”
There was an awkward silence that fell in the room until I cleared my throat and broke it.
“Um, you have a beautiful home,” I told Mavis while looking around her living room.
“Thank you.”
Another genuine smile flashed on her face. I guess she was warming up to me.
“My husband will be down soon. Please make yourself at home,” Mavis offered before walking out of the room.
“I’m so glad you’re here.” Dior wrapped her arms around my neck, and I placed mine around her waist.
“I am too, baby.”
We shared a hug until she looked at someone behind me and slightly pulled away.
“Daddy! This is Jashawn. Shawn, this is my daddy, Kevin.”
Baby girl was so happy to introduce us that she was bouncing around in my arms and making me laugh.
I released my arms from around her waist and turned to formally meet her pops, but when I did, I wasn’t expecting who I saw standing behind me.
Both of our eyes fell out of our heads as we caught sight of each other. That surprise soon turned to rage, and I angrily bit my bottom lip.
“Daddy? Jashawn? What’s going on? Do you two know each other?” Dior asked, looking worried as she looked between the both of us.
My eyes temporarily shifted to her face, and my heart broke to know that she was related to this motherfucker.
Why?
As I looked back at this nigga, I saw him reach out for Dior, and I pulled her back.
“Nigga, get your hands off my motherfucking daughter!” he roared, and I smirked at him.
“I’ve had more than my hands on your daughter, bro.”
His face clenched, and he went to say something but was interrupted when his wife ran back into the room.
“What’s going on?” Mavis asked as she stood between the two of us looking back and forth.
Neither of us responded as we stood there looking at each other.
“Jashawn, what’s going on?” Dior asked and came around me to stand in my face.
I looked down at her and sighed. My heart hurt to know that we could never be together again after this.
“I gotta go,” I said, and her mouth fell.
“What? Why?” Her mouth trembled, and her eyes watered, which tugged at my heart strings.
I had really started to develop some deep ass feelings for this girl, and it was killing me. But who I was and who her father was meant that we could no longer be together. Our families were at war, and I knew nothing was going to stop that.
“Get the fuck out of my house now, Surge.”
The motherfucker called me by my street name, and I angrily bit my bottom lip.
“I will see you again.” I gritted while I glared at him before walking out of the house with Dior yelling out for me.
I jumped into my car ignoring her pleas for me to come back and sped away from that house.
“Fuck!” I thumped my fists on the dashboard. “Fuck!”
How didn’t I fucking know? Alfred! Her fucking name is Alfred!
Not only did I get caught slipping, but now it had me wondering if Dior knew the whole time and was just playing me. My brothers had warned me about her, but I didn’t listen.
Taking my phone out and being careful not to crash my car, I called Wrath’s phone and when it went to his voicemail, I left a message.
“Bro, I fucked up, man! I fucked up!” I said and let out a long breath.
I paused, trying to figure out how to allow the words I needed to say but didn’t want to say to leave my mouth. How was I going to explain fucking up this big? For sleeping on all that Wrath was trying to tell me?
“Shit,” I hissed and shook my head at myself.
I could feel the bile rising from my stomach as I finally fixed my lips, and said, “Dior is the detective’s daughter!”
To be continued.
