Wolf woke up in a cold sweat, he had been asleep having one of the many nightmares that often plagued his dreams. His dream this time was when he was on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. He was given no choice but to watch the massacring of dozens of men, women, and children at the hands of the Chinese, he wanted to stop them, he had the power to stop them, but he didn’t because the mission took priority. He had always hated himself for that. His hand was on the grass, this startled him as he realized where he was. Taking several long moments to compose himself. Placing 2 points into both STR, INT and 4 into CON. He would save the skill points and racial point for later.
“Shit! I guess this confirms that I do come back.” Wolf said with his hand on his face. Examining himself, he was naked in the small clearing where the battle had occurred, no bones were broken, and he wasn’t injured anymore. Getting up he quickly retreated to the cave to get a spare set of leather clothes, he was thankful he thought to make them. Gathering a few knives and an old stone axe he had made what seemed like ages ago. He quickly regretted his death for its loss of equipment, but taking solace in the fact that it wouldn’t be final, he saw there was a new icon he could see in the form of a ‘Q’. The window displayed the only two quests he had which were ‘King of the Forest’ and ‘Defend Kokuri Village’.
Happy that he had completed the ‘Defend Kokuri Village’ quest but cold rage filled him when he thought of the Direwolf. Running to the location where the battle, he was appalled at the sight. The bodies of the soldiers were savaged, arms were ripped off, legs had deep gouges exposing bone, chests were carved open, and heads were caved in. Wolf walked up to one of the corpses, noticing that the blood had already started to crust up and dry. Looking around for some weapons and armor to scavenge he found none, all the spears and shields were too damaged to provide any protection, same applied to all the armor likewise were most of the swords. Looking around for site of where his body would be but couldn’t find it.
Deciding to see where the officer went, finding a thick trail of blood that was likewise crusting and drying. After about fifteen minutes of following the trail he came across the body of the man. The man had died with the look of horrific pain on his face, Wolf smiled. Searching the body, he found a gladius along with the man’s armor. Wolf didn’t like the small round shield as it removed his ability to use multiple weapons, but put on the armor since it was better than just his leathers and furs. He did make sure to remove all the Imperial marking, since wearing would simply make him feel dirty.

Having some decent armor made him feel better, he just wished for a better pair of boots to go with them. Taking a few hours to finish scavenging and resizing the armor and helping with getting the everything he could from the dead men resulted in:
10 Steel Short Swords
5 Steel Daggers
12 Steel Helmet
2 Steel Lamellar Armor
13 Steel Bracers
16 Steel Greaves
3 Short Bows
200 Steel Arrows
76 Silver, 37 Copper
12 Coin Pouches (Empty)
Wolf took on of the coin pouches and combined it with what coins he had. Piling the remains of the bodies in a single location to be buried later he set off to see the bastard who killed him. Some say vengeance is best served cold. Wolf isn’t a patron of that saying, he believed that revenge should be swift, brutal, and sweet. With the added weight of the armor he moved much slower and burned significantly more stamina to get to the cave. Stealth was also not something which was possible due to the weight. At about 500 meters from the cave he could hear the rumbling of the monster.
Deciding it would be a bad idea to go with a frontal attack, Wolf started making stakes and driving them into the ground at an angle. For the next three hours Wolf repeated this process until the entire outer perimeter of the cave was enclosed. He left enough room for him to get through but enough to trap the Direwolf. Resting for a few minutes to regain his stamina, Wolf sat in the seiza sitting position examining his weapons. The bow he had scavenged with arrows to ensure they were serviceable, next he moved to the sword and daggers. All were sharp and ready for combat. Satisfied with the inspection he took a few moments to center himself, calming his nerves, and mentally preparing for the fight to come.
Rising from the forest floor, he sheathed the weapons and strung the bow while notching an arrow. Casually walking toward the cave, he saw that the Direwolf was inside with several spear shafts jutting out from its body. Apparently, it couldn’t remove them and continued to take damage. Drawing and then firing his arrow he notched another, repeating until the Direwolf had risen and roared its challenge. Wolf turned around and took off toward the stakes, hoping to be faster than the creature. Once he was through the stakes he heard a loud crashing as the Direwolf impacted the sharpened stakes.
Yelping in pain the monster impaled itself, on three poles. Two of the poles had broken from its sheer weigh
t. The one stake remaining was lodged firmly in its left shoulder while the others had only torn large gashes in its sides. The Direwolf’s momentum was arrested, jerking back the stake came out, and its left leg hung limp and ineffective. A brief staring contest occurred between the two, hate filled both their eyes as they stood in silence. As if communicating their intentions of a duel, Wolf dropped his bow and arrows drawing his sword and dagger indicating he accepted. Blood flowed freely from the Direwolf’s shoulder, but it didn’t pay it any mind. Wolf moved in closer wary of the Direwolf’s powerful jaws, he had seen the damage it had done to the soldiers’ armor and he wanted nothing to do with it. He knew that this monster was a much higher level than he was, after all it took on almost a full platoon of soldiers.
Even if they were all severely wounded, he still thought it was unlikely they would have been successful even had they been not injured. The creature snapped at Wolf’s head when he tried to pass by it. Wolf ducked under pulling his sword up slicing up underneath its jaw as it reared back. The wolf responded again by lunging at him as with its’ jaws trying to take his head off. Wolf managed to dodge the bite, but was bashed by its muzzle and flew back 3 meters rolling as he landed, using the momentum to rise to his feet. Blood trickled from his lip, smiling as he looked at the combat logs.

With the new gear, he was now hitting harder than the Direwolf was, moving in Wolf danced around smiling and laughing as he scoring several minor slashes dealing 12-13 damage. The Direwolf had scored two more hits dealing 28 total damage. The Direwolf kept growing angrier at the little man who wouldn’t stay still. Several minutes passed as he danced when the creature reared up taking a deep breath, Wolf darted in to dominate on the opening. The creature came down earlier than Wolf thought roaring right in Wolf’s face.

Wolf flew back landing hard but not enough to take damage, his mind recoiled in pain causing further disorientation, worsening his situation. Wolf had 20HP left and he needed to fight smart if he were to survive, he couldn’t afford to take another shot since he would only get one shot to kill this bastard. Wolf’s breath was ragged now and so too was the Direwolf, the armor he wore helped him survive the hit, but it constricted and slowed his movements. Heavy armor had its benefits but now it was more of a hindrance than it was benefit.
Using the dagger to cut away the straps on the lamellar chest piece, and leather shoulders, he freed himself from the metal prison that encased him. The Direwolf looked unmoving, Wolf thought he saw confusion on its face as the armor fell off. Wolf took a deep breath feeling the calm, cold, calculating familiarity of combat he normally did. While most would think that the armor’s bonuses outweigh the agility you get from lighter armor, you would be horribly wrong. Wolf had briefly started thinking this was a game and stats trumped all. This just now was a stark reminder that speed and mobility ruled the fate of soldiers in war. Taking a better hold of his dagger and sword he moved in for the attack, with the lighter and more agile capabilities he fell into the death dance so familiar to him. Instead of just trying to score any hits he could, he would strike only at the Direwolf’s swinging right arm.
A stab here, a slash there, soon enough both him and the creature was panting and breathing heavier than before. The Direwolf’ left foreleg was in such a bad shape it could barely move, if its look could do kill, Wolf would have long since been dead. Letting their stamina recover so they could restart their bout both stood there without moving, sweat and blood dripped down his face as saliva and blood dripped down the Direwolf’s tongue and mouth. In a futile attempt to bite him again the Direwolf tried to move but was too slow. Several paces away Wolf went for another series of slashes to the previously injured knee. The fight came to its conclusion as his Gladius sliced through the back of its knee digging deep and tearing away the tendons and muscle of the leg. The creature fought valiantly, and bravely but physics and anatomy caused the creature to fall to the ground.
Rising from the ground he looked over at the Direwolf and froze, the look of hatred was no longer painted across its face. Instead it had laid its head on the ground and whimpered like a cub, as if pleading for mercy from him. His sympathy for it reached its peak when it looked at him as though begging to be allowed to live. Sighing he thought of all the things taught by his family and tribe. He then felt guilty for simply hunting this animal because of a quest. Sheathing his blades, he simply walked to the cave, he figured that he could at least loot the cave of anything valuable.
After all you don’t get a quest made to kill you unless you had something worthwhile. Wolf rummaged through the cave finding an exquisitely carved chest at the very back covered in moss and debris. The lid was firmly sealed with two latches on the sides and front, making it require both thumbs and forefingers to open. Shrugging he opened the chest to behold his well-earned loot. Shock, dismay, and disappointment flashed across his face, as the contents of the chest were just a single book, a large red flask, and a vial of clear bluish liquid. Frowning he picked up the book first.

“Uhhh, yeah! Now that’s a stupid fucking question.” he said as thought it was a tremendously stupid question. His body moved automatically, the uncontrollable actions of him flipping through pages sent shivers down his spine and a painful spike through his skull. Information was flowing in like a flooding river cascading through his brain, scrambling and frying his mind. Then blackness came, his sweet, sweet friend.

Putting the vials in his leather pack, he continued searching the cave. In a small alcove, he found a large opaque crystal imbedded into the wall. Outside the cave he could hear the whimpering and groaning of the Direwolf, tugging at his sympathies for the wounded animal. Using ‘Analyze’ on the crystal.

Immediately pulling out the vial of Valkyrie’s Salvation, he poured it on the crystal on instinct. At first nothing happened, a bit sad at the wasteful use of the potion crossed across his face. Drawing his dagger to put started toward the entrance of the cave to put the beast out of its misery as a last act of mercy, when he heard a loud cracking sound like that of ice breaking. Glancing back, he saw crystal crack further, chunks of crystal fell off and dissolved into nothingness. The crystal eventually turned into to the form of a naked and unconscious young woman. She had tan skin with, long hazel hair, slender legs, toned abs, and a lithe figure, her ears were pointed indicating she was an Huldra. She was a very attractive woman that made his heart skip a beat for a moment. Several long moments passed as he stared at her rising and falling chest with perky breasts. His admiration of her body was interrupted by a notification
