A Horse Wrangler for Christmas Page 7

by Cheryl Wright

If the Lord blessed them that way, she would give Daniel more children. When their children were old enough, they would have their own team of horse wranglers who would love the ranch as much as she and her husband did.

After changing his diaper and putting the baby in his crib to sleep, they all sat down to eat. She was surprised at how the men had all pitched in to ensure Christmas dinner was perfect. Daniel lifted his wine to make a toast. Like last year, Meredith didn’t partake. She did however lift her glass of water.

“To my wife,” Daniel said, turning toward her. “Thank you for giving me a son.”

“To Meredith,” echoed around the table.

She lifted her glass and made a toast of her own. “To all of you,” she said, glancing from one man to the other. “You are all special to me in your own way. You are all my family.”

It was true – each and every person sitting at the table meant a lot to her. She turned to Daniel who sat next to her, and stared into his eyes. “I love you more than words can ever say,” she said, then leaned in and kissed him.

Old George cleared his throat. “Perhaps we should say the blessing so we can eat?” He grinned as they pulled apart. “I’d like to say it if you don’t mind.”

Everyone joined hands and bowed their heads. “Lord, I know I’m just a gnarly old cowboy, but I want to thank you for ensuring our Meredith found a good man who loves her. And for giving her a son. But most of all, apart from the food, I want to say thanks for bringing us all together and making us into a real family. Amen.”

Meredith opened her eyes and stared at Old George. He might be a gnarly old cowboy, but he was certainly a part of her family. Daniel grabbed her knee under the table and squeezed it. She knew he loved her and always would.

She silently thanked God for his goodness and care of her, and bringing her to a place where she was so cherished.

She glanced up to discover the cowboys all watching her. “Right boys, let’s eat,” she said, and everyone tucked in.
