Later that night, Melody and Alvin were curled up on the sofa with Smudge between them. Baby Charlotte had been asleep for an hour and they were all relaxing. Melody had been talking about her plans to return to the bakery but she was no longer as desperate to get back as she had been before the birth.
Kerry and Leslie dropped in regularly and she felt that everything was under control.
“If you’re thinking of going back to work, what about your detective activities?” Alvin asked.
Melody knew that this was an area where they could possibly disagree. Alvin hated her putting herself in danger. In the past, she had never seen it that way. All she had seen was injustice and something inside her had said that she needed to resolve it. But as she looked over at the crib, she knew that her priorities had changed.
“For now, the only mysteries I want to solve are those in our daughter's eyes. I cannot believe how much I love her and how much she consumes me.”
“Me too,” Alvin said and he pulled her into his arms and kissed her lips. “I love you, Melody Hennessy, I love you with all my heart.”
Melody kissed him back. “I love you too. I didn’t think I could love you more than I did, but I do.”
As they leaned back Smudge gave a little yip between them and they both fell about laughing.
“Yes, we love you too, Smudge,” they both said.

Did you enjoy meeting Lola Ramsay and Sassy the Lilac Frenchie? Well, I hope so.
Sassy is modeled on Lila my Lilac French Bulldog. Lila had been returned to her breeder unwanted. Can you believe that? She is the sweetest little bundle of love you could ever meet. Someone’s loss was my gain. Though she does like to pinch my socks.
I decided to write my next series with Lila as my model and my wonderful cover designer has managed to bring photos of her to life for the covers. Much of what Sassy does comes from Lila, you will have to decide if I can hear her talking.
