“Thank you,” I said, feeling the tears well up in my eyes.
“Don’t do that!” MacManus said. He sat on the edge of the bed and put his arms around me.
Dara opened her eyes and said, “You’re awake!”
MacManus released his embrace and stood back up, “I’ll leave you two alone,” he said.
When he left Dara climbed on my bed and held my hand.
“I was so scared! I thought he was going to kill you. I’m so sorry! This is all my fault. If you never met me, you wouldn’t be here right now,” she said.
“Don’t be crazy! You have nothing to apologize for. You saved me. You should never have had to do what you did. I should have been stronger. I was supposed to protect you,” I told her.
“I’m glad that I got to be the one to do it. You were all I was thinking about. I needed to stop him from hurting you. I love you,” she said, moving my hair from my face.
“I love you, too,” I said.
