The Water Witch Page 13

Cait agreed, “I think your powers will be a huge benefit to the coven. I’m pretty sure the Elders will make you a new Keeper. The wind has been whispering hints to me, but what position you will take remains to be seen.” She looked towards Flora. “How are you now? Throwing that wall up stopped a massive wave hitting us and the village. It must have been tiring, have you recovered?”

“It was pretty draining, but I had a good sleep yesterday and sat in the grove in the afternoon and soaked up the energy from the trees. It did me a world of good. I’m back to fighting fit and was in the garden centre today. I think all our efforts were pretty spectacular with the Undine. Kenna, that fire wall was impressive. Was it hard to hold together?”

“Harder than I thought it would be. She was strong and kept fighting it, even though it must have hurt her. I think in all it was a great success. We came out of it unharmed, gained an ally, saw a Goddess and have brought Kira, back into the fold.” She squeezed Kira’s hand. They had been best friends at one point and her disappearance had hit Kenna almost as hard as it hit me. Now it seemed they would have a second chance at friendship.

For the second time in so many days I felt a toast was required. I lifted my can and said “Here is to new beginnings and welcoming Kira back where she belongs. I hope you know what you’re letting yourself into, big sister…”
