Thanks to my publicist, Kim Nash, a seed of an idea from real life sparked off this book, as so often happens. Those of us with children have probably wondered at some point; what age is a good age to allow our son or daughter a little more freedom? Is nine years old too young an age for a sensible child to make the five-minute walk up the street from a friend’s house whilst being monitored by adults?

From this initial thought, I began to imagine, from a parental point of view, that most dreaded scenario: a missing child. A parent with a secret past, an impossible choice… and soon, I found myself thinking about the story a lot, the characters, how I could tell the story.

The book is set in Nottinghamshire, the place I was born and have lived in all my life. Local readers should be aware I often take the liberty of changing street names or geographical details to suit the story.

As always, I barely finish writing my current book than the character voices for my next story begin vying for attention. It’s always an exciting time for me, embarking on a new project. I do hope you’ll join me soon for book nine!

  Best wishes,

  Kim x
