His Defiant Omega (The Royal Omegas Book 2) Page 11

by Kristen Strassel

Was I making a mistake? Was the human keep as safe as it seemed?

“Will you give the new Badlands a chance?” Tavia asked. “If you’re not happy here, you’re free to go. You’re free to go now, but I can’t imagine doing this without you, Char. We’ve been through so much.”

“You’re gonna be great.” My voice cracked, and I hugged her again. We didn’t need words. When I opened my eyes, I caught Cassian watching us.

I’d ignore the warm feeling low in my belly. I knew what it meant. I had to get to safety. Soon. I narrowed my eyes in challenge to make him blink first. Instead, he winked and waved.

  Cocky alpha.

Tavia sighed heavily. “If you love something, set it free.” She waved her hand in front of her eyes. I didn’t expect her to be so broken up over my announcement.

“There are mutant wolves,” I reminded her. “And I don’t believe all the omegas left willingly. I have to go and see for myself. I need to do this. Please understand.”

“Dagger and I will make sure no one else leaves against their will.” She gave me one last hug. “I won’t hold you back. If you need anything, you come to me first. I’ll move heaven and earth to make it happen. And you always have a home in the Badlands. Always.”

“I know.” I pulled away from her. If I was going to have the guts to do this, I had to go now. “I want to see what else there is for us. Maybe things will change around here. Or maybe I’ll find a real haven for our people. A place we can thrive.”

Tavia frowned. “I understand. You want to see if you can be more than an omega.”

Nope, that wasn’t it at all. But it wasn’t something I could explain. It was something inside me that needed answers.

  I squeezed Tavia’s hand.

“Omegas will change the world,” I said, finding her gaze and digging deep so she would hear the truth. “It’s already begun.”

Kristen Strassel is far cooler than she'll make herself sound in this bio. She enjoys spending time with the voices in her head—nudging the characters toward those bad decisions and seeing if she can get them a happily ever after. When she's not writing, she's often still in the land of make-believe—doing makeup for film and television. And when she's not doing any of that, she enjoys making her house look like a Pinterest board, watching football, and road trips to the middle of nowhere.
