“Agent Ashton, General. I’m glad to see you, but what are you doing here?” I asked as their grim expressions didn’t waver.
“Mason Thomas,” Agent Ashton began, “you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say . . .”
In an instant, I felt the life being sucked out of my body—again. I didn’t hear anything else that came out of her mouth. I was numb to the anxiety.
“For what?” I blurted.
“Espionage and domestic and international terrorism. The code included on the DVD received at NASA has been confirmed to have been used by terrorists and written by you.”
“Are you kidding? Did you speak with Dhilan—Dr. Hannah?”
“Dr. Hannah is the one who told us it was your code. Please turn around,” she said as Crane took my helmet. General Wilson’s jaw hung open. I put my hands behind my back.
“He didn’t explain that I did it as part of my job? General Crane! Please, what’s this about?”
“I’ve got to hand it to you, Mason, making up dreams to hide your espionage was brilliant. Even I began to believe you were a modern-day prophet. Fortunately, we’re not total numpties. Your plan has been foiled,” he said, shaking his head with a look of disgust on his face.
“General!” I said as cuffs were put on my wrists. “Is this what ‘I’ll make it worth your while to help Dhilan’ means?” I asked, remembering the line he had used to lure me back to NASA. “You’ve got this wrong, General! How could you . . . !”
“Besides the code, we found Dhilan’s laptop in your hotel room, along with microscopic discs programmed by you and Dominika Vladimirovich to infiltrate the government of the United States of America using an android,” said Crane. “You were always one step ahead.”
“General! You gave me his password! I called you from his house! I’m being set up! If you don’t believe me, call Lisa Cummings at the New York Times. She will know . . .”
“You played us, Mason,” he responded. “Brilliantly. It’s over.”
“Mr. Thomas, this way,” said Agent Ashton as she led me to the van marked with the FBI insignia. Just as I was feeling completely defeated, I recalled Porsha telling me I would be arrested. So I’m not crazy, I thought. I really am the last messenger to call America to repentance. I just didn’t know I’d have to do it from prison.

Praise for Mason
“Get ready for a roller coaster ride that begins in Washington, DC, goes through various twists and turns, through the Middle East, back to California and literally lands in a field in Kerville, Texas. There is plenty of political intrigue along with spiritual warfare as well as cutting edge artificial intelligence that makes this delicious book hard to put down.”
—Dr. Steve Mescher, Charlotte, NC
“A heart-wrenching, action packed, engaging thriller that will leave you contemplative about advances in technology that may be as hidden to us as the spiritual battles raging behind the scenes. Sit back and enjoy the ride!”
—Don Brown, Nationally Best-selling author
