Dexx
It’s been almost four months since I started living. It’s Thanksgiving and I’m giving thanks for a lot of things.
My fiancée shows off her three-carat diamond across the room. After a promotion to Chief Information Officer at Morgan Tech, but not because of, I decided to celebrate, and I walked into the best Boston jeweler with her on my arm and together we designed her ring. Then I told her I’d surprise her with when I’d ask her.
So the day I picked up the finished ring, six weeks later—a lifetime to me—I took her to dinner where there was sushi, flowers, almost identical to that first date, including a grass candle. Had to scour the internet for that, but I found it. And then I got down on a knee and in front of Mr. Dae and his wife, I asked her to marry me. Then twenty of our friends came out from behind standing partitions and my wife-to-be started crying for the first time.
I did good.
And now the engagement ring sparkles across the room, even through her food-safety gloves as she shows Marley again. Not like Marley didn’t see it last week during that dinner.
A hand lands on my shoulder. Carr, Chief Information Officer, for Morgan Tech, and my partner in crime when it comes to taking over the custom programming world, smiles. “We’re damn lucky, Dexx.”
“Yeah, I know.”
I squat. “Hey, there. Are you…Faith?” I ask my coworker, Eyan’s two-year-old twin daughter. She shakes her head. “Hope?” I ask.
She shakes her head.
I look up. “There are only two of them, right?”
Carr raises and lowers his shoulders. “That’s how many Marley took care of at our house last week.”
“Then which one is this one?”
“Dude, I called both of them, ‘cutie’.”
I laugh. “Sounds about right.” I reach out and she steps into my arms. I lift her up and I see Aine smile at me across the room. She winks back at me and I have to stop my cock from wagging like a dog’s tail. Somethings just don’t change. But I have…for the best.
We get into line and Eyan lifts Faith from my arms. Faith it is.
My fiancée slips by my side. “You have a second?”
“Sure, baby.” I tear off my gloves and Carr slips in while his current nanny takes care of the girls. Never liked her and I’m hoping she’s gone very soon. He deserves to find someone, too.
My fiancée shakes her head. “Dexx, I don’t think I can do this…”
My stomach flips at how she says it. It’s final and scary. “Aine, what’s going on?”
“I can’t wait to marry you. I want to marry you next week. I want to be yours and I want to start a family with you in my next breath.”
I lift her up and she squeals. “Yes. Yes, to all of that, baby.”
I’ll never go back to Groundhog Day.
Every day is special with this woman by this geek’s side.
~THE END~
