Three Degrees of Death Page 22

by Allen Kent

Thank you for reading Three Degrees of Death. As the title page indicates, this is the third book in the Colby Tate series and, though written to be a stand-alone novel, builds on the first two. If you haven’t read Books One and Two, Murder One and Eye for an Eye, I think you will enjoy them.

Crayton, Missouri is a fictitious town on the western fringe of the Ozarks. You will note that the county is never named, leaving it to readers who know that part of the state to debate which county it is based on. The answer, quite truthfully, is none. It is more of a compilation of counties in the region. One character in this novel is, however, based on a real person who became known in the area as Fits Luney. I have taken some liberty with his name, but he did, in fact, live in a giant squirrel cage and craft bows and arrows out of hedge apple wood that he sold to make a living. He was famous regionally for traveling widely with a squirrel tucked away in his jacket pocket.

I realize that by using the Outlander series as such a central feature in this book it will quickly date itself. But I wanted to take this book into Scotland, and Outlander provided such a perfect vehicle for both the journey and the teens’ disappearance. If you are curious about how Tate and Grace fare after they get back into action in Crayton, keep an eye out for Book 4.
