“Maybe, is it working?”
“Maybe, but I’ll tell you right now, you have to buy me dinner if you think I’m going to sit here while you beat off to those magazines,” I say with a straight face.
He laughs again. “You’ve got it. How about a trip to Paris when I get out of here? We can have dinner there.”
“Now you’re talking. We can go to my favorite restaurant there.”
Suddenly the air in the room changes. He looks at me with a serious expression. His eyes clouding.
“Why do you keep coming here?”
“What’s with you guys today?”
He lifts a shoulder. “It’s an honest question. Is it pity? I saw your face the other day. When you walked in and I was uncovered.”
“First, that wasn’t pity you saw. It was gratitude. A soul-deep gratitude to you for saving my life. You and Tak cheated death on my behalf twice in one night. Coming here to spend time with you two it the least I can do,” I reply.
“So, it’s pity,” he says, his smile returning just a little.
“No, it’s not pity. I’d do anything I could for you guys.”
He makes a tsking sound. “You know, that’s why I hate dating. I’m a jealous guy. I don’t like this Tak kid.”
I laugh this time. “Shut up. You’d like him. He’s a cute kid. I think he could use a few friends.”
“Friends.” He looks me over. “Is that what we are?”
“Yeah, you’re stuck with me for life.”
“Do friends help their friends get off a nut? I woke horny as fuck today,” he says and wiggles his brows.
“You’re an asshole,” I scoff, but there’s no real heat to it.
“It was worth a try. I’ll still take you to Paris. As a matter of fact, we can go as soon as they let my ass out of here. I’m so tired of these four walls,” he groans.
“I guess you’re going to survive. You’re already lining up pussy,” comes from behind me.
His voice sends goose bumps up my arms and across the back of my neck. The room charges with that energy he gives off. I don’t have to turn to know it’s him. However, when I do, I’m trapped by that intense jade gaze.
Pit.
Pit
I walk up to Kelex’s hospital room door and the first thing to grab my attention is the girl sitting by his bedside. Her hair is piled on top of her head. The front is dark, but from behind, the back is rainbow colored.
Skittles. It makes sense. The sexy ass chick with the Aston Martin.
My chest is already burning with jealous before I hear Kelex tell her he’ll take her to Paris. Once the words are out of his mouth, I’m consumed by irrational envy. I haven’t been able to get this girl off my mind since that night. Just my fucking luck, I do the time and this asshole gets the girl.
“Jealous,” Kelex says with a smile on his lips.
I flip in the bird and turn to get the fuck out of here. I don’t know what made me come here in the first place. I’d been so pissed after leaving the estate, I didn’t know where to go or what my next move would be.
“Hey, wait,” she calls from behind me.
I don’t stop. I need to get the fuck out of here. I can’t figure out anything I need to do dicking around in this hospital.
“Will,” she calls out.
That gets my attention. I spin on her so fast she takes a step back. I narrow my gaze as I look her in the eyes.
“What the fuck did you just call me?”
“Will, that’s your name, right? Or do you prefer William? I’m Mayven, but my friends call me Ven or Skittles.”
“I’m not your friend and you’re not mine. You won’t be calling me shit, especially not Will,” I say.
I hate that name. Thaddeus always says it like it tastes like shit to him. How can someone make you have disdain for your own name from the way they say it? I shake the thought off.
She frowns. “You don’t have to be an asshole. I wanted to thank you and see how you’re doing with your bitch ass,” she replies.
Now that shit almost brings a smile to my face. If I wasn’t having such a fucked-up day, it might have. I take a moment to take her little ass in.
She has heeled boots on her feet, so I’d say she’s actually about five four, five five. Up close her body is as hot as I remember. Her tits are huge and her hips flare and announce that ass I couldn’t tear my eyes off of the first time I saw her.
She has dark bangs covering her forehead. From the front you wouldn’t know she has rainbow colored hair in the back. I close the distance between us and brush the bangs out of her face.
When the scar comes into view, I suck in a sharp breath. She frowns and takes a step back, trying to cover her forehead back up. I’m pissed, I was able to get a text out to get her a plastic surgeon to fix that shit.
It was a favor I was owed. What the fuck happened? Granted, she’s still fucking gorgeous. Those juicy lips and pretty eyes are killer. However, she now has about an inch and a half scar that looks like it’s coming out of her scalp.
“Why the fuck do you look like Harry Potter? My guy should have made that shit go away,” I growl.
“Wow,” she says and jerks her head back. “You’re a dick. And to answer your question. I knew the doc. He’s a friend of the family. When I saw him, I had to bail. Luke stitched me up the best he could. He has some EMT training.”
“I’m going to beat his fucking ass.”
“No, you’re not. He did what he could. Besides, you’re making it seem a lot worse than it is.”
“If it’s not that bad, why are you hiding it?”
“If you must know, it pisses my father off every time he sees it,” she replies.
I scoff. “Yeah, whatever.”
I turn to leave. This chick is doing a number on my thoughts. She smells like something I want to eat. All fruity and shit.
I wonder if her pussy tastes as good as she smells.
Damn, fucking Kelex and his burned ass. I swear, a part of me wants to light his dick on fire. If I would have left his ass, I would have gotten the girl and stayed the fuck out of trouble.
“Hey, asshole, wait. I have something for you,” she calls after me.
“You made your choice, I don’t share,” I toss back over my shoulder and keep going.
“What? I have the key to your car.”
I stop in my tracks and turn to her. She’s frowning at me again. Without a word, she turns and heads back to Kelex’s room.
I curse under my breath and start after her. She’s back in the doorway holding my key up. I reach for it, but she pulls it back.
“I don’t know why I care, but if you need anything, I owe you one. All you have to do is ask.” She hands over the key. “I have your number from the call list. If it’s the same I can text you the address to where I’ve been keeping the car.”
“How the fuck did you get it in the first place?”
“You’re not the only one who can call in favors. I repaired the damage from the explosion. It wasn’t anything big.”
I work my jaw as I pocket the key. “Thanks. My number’s the same. We’re even.”
“Whatever, Will.” She rolls her eyes and goes back into the room.
“Kiss my ass, Mayven.”
She looks over her shoulder and there’s a smile on her lips. I drop my gaze to her ass. When I look back up, the smile is still there as she looks me over.
“I’d rather you kiss mine,” she says before turning and leaving my ass staring after her.
Chapter 3
The Asshole Club
Pit
* * *
Six months later…
“Do you know why I’m bringing my gun? I’m not spending my weekend handing out free tats,” Deacon grumbles from the seat beside me in my car.
“Beats the fuck out of me. Like I told you. She sent me that text and told me to be here, like she’s my fucking boss or some shit.”
He laughs and I start to grumble to
myself. I need to stay away from this chick. However, here I am headed to some crap she’s planned. I wasn’t going to come, but Deacon talked my ass into it.
Don’t ask me how the fuck we’ve become besties. It’s probably because he’s the sanist out of this little crew. Yup, somehow, we became Skittles’ crew.
If you ask me, she’s been trying to pull us all together to bond. I’m not sure why. She’s forever cursing us out.
“I don’t think it will be that bad. She’s actually pretty cool. She helped me find a building for the shop and got me to closing faster,” Deacon says.
“When daddy’s a politician, what do you expect?”
“So that’s true? I heard he could be the next mayor of Bridge Lake with future plans for Vander.”
“It’s true.”
I don’t tell him her father is a shoe in due to his connections. He’ll be mayor next term without question. He moved back into his Bridge Lake residence to make it happen.
We fall silent for a bit. I’m lost in thought about all the things I’ve learned about Mayven Jennings. She’s a rich spoiled brat just like Kelex. I guess that’s why they get along so well.
“Hey, how’s the bar coming?”
“It will be open soon.”
“It’s not my business or anything, but you do know Blake Knight isn’t someone you want to get in business with,” Deacon says cautiously.
“You’re right. It’s not your business.”
“True, but you’re a friend and as a friend, I’m telling you, you don’t want to fuck with that guy. I didn’t know you well when I first heard that’s who was backing your bar. Now I do. I’m just telling you, if you can get out of that shit you need to. You might not be able to later,” he warns.
“If you must know. We have an agreement. I needed a new life, and he needed a neutral partner. Someone not invested in things the way he is. In the end, it’s a win-win.”
“Cool, if you know what you’re doing, then I won’t say shit else about it. Obviously, your grown ass can take care of yourself.”
I say nothing. It took me a long time to bite the bullet and reach out to Blake. Leo showing up at my door with a busted lip and black eye pretty much sealed the deal.
He swore it was from a fight with some boy at school, but he and Thaddeus got into an argument about Leo fighting at the elite alma mater. I still question that shit.
I had won a few card games and earned enough to get off of Roman’s couch. The place I was renting wasn’t big enough for me and a growing teenage boy, but I vowed to Leo he didn’t have to go back. In order to make that happen, I needed more money, more power, and more information.
Blake was able to hand all of that over. He’s also able to hand me what I want most. The pull to embarrass my father in a way he’ll never see coming.
“This is it,” Deacon says, breaking into my thoughts.
I lean forward and peer out of the window. The place looks like a winter wonderland lodge. There are three levels from what I can see and all three have decking wrapping the place.
“This looks like some shit out of a magazine,” I grumble.
“Come on, you come from money. This can’t be new to you.”
“Didn’t say it was. That’s not my point. This shit looks like her, high maintenance ass.”
“You know, I think you two should fuck and get it over with,” he says and laughs.
“I don’t do sloppy seconds. Not my style.”
“Wait, what are you talking about?”
I glance at him after pulling up in front and parking. I pull a face because he has to know what I’m talking about. Kelex has been fucking her since he got out of the hospital, that is if she didn’t give him some ass before that.
“She’s fucking Kelex. You can’t tell me you don’t know this,” I say.
Deacon cracks the fuck up beside me. I get out of the car and ignore his ass. I don’t see what’s so funny.
I have the trunk open and I’m pulling out my bag by the time he gathers himself and rounds the car. He reaches in for his stuff while trying and failing miserably to stifle his laughter.
“Truly don’t see what’s so fucking funny.”
“You are. They’re not fucking, man. I don’t know where you got that shit from. I don’t think he’s fucking anyone to be honest. He’s still in his head about the burns,” he says, sobering up.
I think this over. Every time I see the two together, they’re in each other’s face. I have a hard time believing he’s not pounding that fat ass out. Unless Kelex is gay, his pretty boy ass is hitting that.
“Whatever,” I mumble.
We make our way to the front door and Reynolds swings it open. I’m surprised to see him. Word is, he moved to California. I’m not sure how she got him to show up.
He eyes us warily as he gives a head nod. He has never seemed like the approachable type. Not that we went to the same university.
I went to BU in Bridge Lake, his ass went to VU in Vander City, but we crossed paths at parties and races. I’ve only ever seen him with that Lenny guy. Maybe they’re here to have a secret rendezvous. Not my business, I could give two shits.
“Yo,” I say and keep moving.
The place is just as nice on the inside. A huge fireplace anchors the open living area and there’s a large bar and kitchen opposite each other. It’s a decent spot, I’ll give her that.
“Either of you know the point of this?” Luke asks as he moves to flop down on the couch.
“Nope.”
“Not a damn clue,” Deacon says.
Luke frowns. “She paid for my ticket, so I’m here. From the looks of that bar, it might be worth it.”
I grunt. “Where is she?”
“I’m the first one here. Sent her a text and she told me where to find the key. I think she’s coming in with Tak and Kelex,” Luke replies.
I nod and drop my bag at my feet before taking a seat in the accent chair and propping my feet up on the coffee table. I throw my head back and stare up at the wooden beams, questioning for the millionth time why I’m here.
I’m lost in thought sometime later when the room gets cold and voices fill the air. I lift my head to find Kelex, Tak, and our friendly hostess walking in. My mouth goes dry as soon as I lay eyes on her.
Damn. The yellow snowsuit she has on defines every single curve and the gray thermal top under the suspenders molds to her breasts, placing them on display like she’s a Playboy snow bunny. It’s the tits for me.
I want to pop one in my mouth while she rides my cock and screams my name. For Skittles, I’d allow all my freak out. I’d give her that shit I reserve for the lucky ones.
I’d eat that pussy and ass. I’d break her fucking back. I mean that shit.
“Oh, my God. You’re all here,” she squeals in that irritatingly sexy voice.
It’s like smooth smoke. It floats on the air and mesmerizes you. I know it has to be sexy during sex. I swear, she looks like she puts guys in nut-induced comas.
She runs over and hugs Luke. He looks surprised at first, but when he wraps his arms around her and looks down at her ass, I nearly growl. I have to look away before I embarrass myself.
She’s not yours. Get over it.
Shit, she’s not, but she should be. I’m so busy rambling in my head about her, I miss her making her way over to me. She stands before me with her hands on her hips.
I drop my feet to the ground and stand. She tips her head back to look up at me. She’s not in heels for a change, so it’s abundantly clear how much I tower over her at my six three height.
“Will,” she says with a smug ass smile on her lips.
“Mayven,” I return.
“Good to see you. I thought I was going to have to drive back to Vander and drag your funky ass here.”
This earns her a real smile. Over the last six months, whenever we are around each other, there’s a ton of verbal sparring. She’s the only person I allow to call me Will without knock
ing their heads off. I’m still trying to figure out why that is.
“My ass is anything but funky, gorgeous. My balls smell like fresh rain when I’m getting my cock sucked.”
She sucks in a breath and turns. “Well, good for you,” she says over her shoulder.
I shake my head as I stare at her latest hairstyle. She has bangs covering her forehead, stopping at her brow. However, it’s the back that has my attention. The long pin straight locks fall just beneath her ass and from the midback to the tips, it’s in her signature rainbow coloring.
“How do you shit with all that hair on your ass?” I blurt out.
She turns her head toward me. “Do you cup your balls and dick when you shit? Or are they too small to care?”
“Two hands full.”
“Well, it’s the same concept. I tie it up, asshole.”
“So, do you tie it up for sex or do you leave it down to get pulled?”
She gives me the finger and walks over to Kelex who already has a beer in his hand. He has one for her too. I don’t know why that infuriates me so much.
“Okay, so, I’m going to be the one to ask,” Tak says, cutting into the tension in the air. “What’s this all about?”
“What happened? Your permission slip didn’t get signed,” Reynolds says.
“Who are you again?” Tak replies.
I chuckle. Tak is a funny kid. He’s grown on me. He’s talented too.
“You ever been put in a submission hold, ass wipe?” Luke challenges.
“Ugh,” Skittles groans out. “That’s why. You guys are all assholes. Never in my life did I think it was probably to meet a bunch of dickheads.”
“I’m not getting it,” Deacon says, looking at her like she’s lost her mind.
“I think that night on the track was destiny’s way of bringing us all together.” She shrugs. “I don’t know. It felt like we should get together and get to know each other. I keep in touch with you all, but you guys don’t know each other as well.”
“What? You brought us here to sing Kumbaya and shit?” Luke says.
“Gah, no. You’re my assholes. I brought you here so we can have some fun. Have some drinks, prank the shit out of each other, snowboard—”
