Epilogue
The woman watched the scene with a gleam in her eye. A bear and four wolves, enjoying a lazy summer evening complete with a burning grill, a table laden with food and music playing in the house.
“That’s him, that’s the one.” One of her newest boys, Perry, poked his finger at the figure of a large gray wolf, lying panting on the grass.
“Are you sure he’s yours and not just your balls talking?” Mother Adams was inclined to check everything twice.
“My magic sung. I could barely breathe just being in the same room as him.”
“Hmm.” Mother Adams tapped her index finger against her lips. “You should’ve spoken up sooner. Rex Loupe and his friends are going to be naturally suspicious of any magic users after that business with his father.”
“But you can make it happen, can’t you Mother?” Perry had the most amazing blue eyes, that looked doubly attractive when he was pleading. “I couldn’t say anything while he was here. My tongue wouldn’t work I was so smitten with him.”
“That doesn’t mean he’s yours,” Mother Adams reproved quietly. “He’d know by your scent if you were his mate, and he never said anything while he was here.”
“Maybe he’s shy. Mother please.” The fool boy was on his knees, his hands held together as if in prayer. “I know he’s mine. He has to be mine. He was the only single guy among Rex’s friends.”
I’m not seeing the connection, Mother Adams thought. But she still smarted when she thought of how that supposedly-sweet omega got one up on her. Resting her hands on Perry’s shoulders she said quietly, “you do know you’d have to leave here and go to him. Do you want that?”
“I’ll bring him back, Mother. It won’t take long.”
“And you know,” Mother Adams added because she didn’t get to where she was by being stupid, “there is no magic that can force a mating bond if it isn’t there.”
Perry’s innocent pleading expression dropped for one second, but Mother Adams noted it and smiled inside. “He’ll be mine, Mother, you just wait and see. I’ll bring him back and he will be the perfect devoted mate.”
Or a welcome diversion for my little friends, regardless of the outcome.
“You can go,” she said, carefully unhooking a long crystal on a chain from one of the many around her neck. “Keep this on you at all times, that way I know you’ll be safe.” And I can keep an eye on you.
“Oh Mother, thank you.” Perry jumped to his feet, slinging the crystal around his neck. “I won’t let you down. I’ll bring you a wolf home.”
Peering over the edge of the scrying bowl, Perry moaned. “He’s so damn gorgeous. Look at those muscles.”
Mother Adams watched as the large gray wolf morphed fluidly into the shape of the shy young man she’d noted the day Rex Loupe came to visit. “He’s definitely got attributes worth having, my boy. In more ways than one.”
The End
Sigh, lol… I work so hard to make my A&O books standalone, but as I was writing this one and Rogan came into the picture, I just knew he had to have a story of his own. He has a fresh type of innocence that reminded me so much of Luke in Cloverleah and I really wanted to include more about him in this story – but this book was for Devyn and Rex, but, keep an eye out for another spin off book in the near future.
It has taken me about three months, but I am finally at a point where I can write every day again – I was in a tough place there for a while, but I want to offer a huge heartfelt thank you to those of you who supported me, kept believing in me, and who cheered me on as this book was done. I couldn’t have done it without you.
