Agnes Greely found other holiday cottages to clean in Owen Glen, but she didn’t venture into the private lettings business anymore.
Matis Vitkus was buried by the local council in Galway following a sombre funeral service. There were no mourners present to hear the priest say mass for the man, and he ended up in an unmarked grave in the local cemetery.
Birchall’s jewellers featured extensively in the news coverage of the events that had taken place there, and turnover increased by nearly thirty percent, much to the delight of the owner.
Chief Superintendent Plunkett followed through on the issue of an award for Sally Fahy, and along with a handful of other brave members of the force, she was presented with a commendation by the Commissioner at a ceremony at Garda Headquarters in the Phoenix Park in Dublin. The rest of the team were in attendance, and helped Fahy to celebrate in fine style long into the small hours.
The efforts of the Gardaí, the Dutch Police and the tax authorities put an end to the gold scam that had been going on in Ireland for some time. Irish people continue to buy gold in quite substantial quantities from legitimate dealers – it always has been a safe haven, and helps greatly in avoiding death duties when people pass on – but it is no longer stolen back by the very people who sell it.
