Devastating Secret: Book 2 - Secret Series Page 26

by M Brereton

Eva did as ordered, then went in search of her husband only to be told he was busy. It went on like that for the next two days until Eva realized what was happening – he was avoiding her.

After a public appearance together, she cornered him.

“I have a meeting in five minutes.” He said without looking directly at her.

  “This won’t take long…”

“Sorry, but can’t it wait?” He replied, heading to the door, but she slammed it shut and stepped in front of him.

“Look at me!” She ordered and when he continued to look anywhere but, she repeated louder turning his face to hers “Look at me!”

  “What?”

  “You tell me.”

  “I have to go…”

  “Why are you avoiding me?”

Turning away he whispered “I saw the look on your face when you asked me to stop…. you were in pain. I’m sorry. I understand if you don’t want me to touch you….”

“What was going on in your head?”

“I am sorry!” He repeated, “Something…just took over and ….it became…. I can’t explain it. You were just…I don’t know.”

“I’m alright,” Eva assured him stretching up to kiss him. “I don’t mind you being a little…wild.”

Noah pulled away saying “I’m gonna be late.” And quickly stepped past her and left.

  Apparently, he minded.

  Too Much

Eva waited for him in his new hiding spot. A silent sentinel in the dark. As he walked in, she grabbed him…and fuck, did she realize it wasn’t easy to wrestle his 200 lbs fighting frame. She handcuffed him to the desk then turned on the light.

“Are you fucking crazy!” Noah said once he saw it was her, “I could’ve hurt you!”

“But you didn’t!” Eva gasped out, “Have you been working out?”

“WHAT!” Noah asked puzzled. “Considering my position, I thought you’d ask better questions!”

“You’ve been training,” Eva stated. “Why? To beat me?”

“I’ve been training not to get sloppy. What is this about?” He asked, rattling the handcuffs.

“As I’ve just proved, you didn’t hurt me. And what happened before, we both got a little carried away. So, stop acting as if you broke me!”

“There were bruises, Eva,” Noah whispered.

“You got a little rough. I don’t mind the marks. They didn’t hurt when you were making them.” Eva whispered as she straddled him cupping his face. “You know I’m tougher than that. But is this something…you want to do regularly…”

“NO!” Noah replied quickly, “It just happened. It’s not gonna happen again!”

  “I think it will…and I can’t wait…”

“What is wrong with you? I beat you up and you like that!”

“Why are you disgusted by it?” Eva countered, “You want to be perfect but you’re not. You lost control because that was you. The real you! You were holding back all this time…

“With good reason. You saw what happened! My first real girlfriend didn’t appreciate being…with me like that. Hell, you complained the first time and didn’t want me to touch you! So, I hold back, it’s better for you.”

“Oh,” was all she could say. Okay, sex with Noah could be very rough and painful. Could she handle that? Definitely, not anytime soon, he also liked it frequently. That sort of sex on a regular basis…maybe it was good he held back.

“Do you…need to have sex like that…. What I mean is …do you like…?

“Eva, forget it.” Noah ordered, “You don’t have to do anything… except uncuff me.”

“But I want you to be happy…”

“I am happy. Once you and the kids are safe and happy. I’m happy.”

  “I feel like I’m the problem…”

“You are not the problem! Well… maybe you are! Uncuff me!”

Eva kissed him instead and said, “Tell me what you need.”

  “I …need…. you… to…. UNCUFF ME!!!”

“Fine!” Eva conceded, pulling the key out of her bra to do as ordered.

Once free he pushed her off and hastily stepped away. The sex talk and the handcuffs were doing a number on his hormones. He couldn’t risk being close to her. “Just go to sleep, Eva.”

  “Not without you.”

Why the hell did her voice sound like that? That breathy bedroom tone makes his dick hard as steel.

“I have some work to do. I’ll come after.”

“No, you’ll come now, Noah Joshua Marshall! I am not letting you put this wall between us!”

“I’ll come when I’m finished!” Noah argued.

  “Fine. I’ll wait then.”

“Damn it, Eva!” Noah griped, but Eva just raised one eyebrow. “Fine!” He growled like an errant child and stormed out. Leaving her to follow silently in his wake.

He made a production out of going to bed. Slamming doors and drawers as he went, even donning pajamas.

  “Pajamas?”

“I’m in bed, aren’t I?” He griped as he punched his pillows. He tossed and turned then announced angrily. “Goodnight!”

“Goodnight,” Eva stated quietly and kissed him on his cheek. He growled when she did and brought the covers over his head. Eva rolled her eyes at his actions and crawled in next to him. She snuggled next to him and he wiggled away. She came closer and he repeated the action until he was at the edge of the bed.

“Oh, come on!” Eva growled. “I swear you’re worse than a toddler when you can’t have your way!”

“Trust me. You don’t want me to have my way,” came the muffled reply.

“What the hell does that mean?”

  “Go to sleep, Eva.”

“Oh, but I’m cryptic and secretive!” Eva griped as she punched her pillow. “Jackass!”

Noah said nothing. Even knowing she was mad He also knew he could change that in a heartbeat and his burgeoning erection was praying on it. Does one rape their wife? Because he was seriously feeling like some sick perv who couldn’t keep his hands to himself. Her actions in the office had set him off. He had a fantasy once about handcuffing her. God! The things he did…Kill that! Maybe she was right. He needed to let her know about his desires, but he doubted she’d be able to act on any of them now, either way, he needed relief.

Noah sat up and Eva turned and asked angrily, “What!”

“I…uh…” Fuck, this was hard. Just ask, stupid! She’s your wife! “I… I need some …uh …relief.”

  “What?”

  “I-I want to have…some form of …relations.”

  “Huh?”

“I WANT SEX!” He finally blurted out. “I know we shouldn’t …right now…so I think we can ….do…other…. stuff.”

Eva glanced at the tented sheet. Then straddled him.

  “Wait no, I don’t want…”

“Relax! I know what to do!” Eva ordered as she slid down his body. She took his erection in hand and he hissed as he leaned back. “You have needs. You could just tell me.”

“And be labeled a pig when I do…. Ah, ah!” Noah went soprano as she squeezed.

“What did I say about being gracious?” Eva licked the tip and slid her hands up and down his shaft. “You’re so hard, baby! I can’t wait to taste you.”

He didn’t last long after that. Cumming over her hand and bless her she lapped it up, he was hard in an instant as she rubbed her tits against his cock. “Oh, baby!”

  “I’m wet, Noah!”

He didn’t need a better invitation. He did as promised, even when Eva begged for more.

  “I know why you didn’t…I’m sorry I couldn’t…”

  “It doesn’t matter.”

  “Were you always like this?”

  “What do you mean?”

“I mean…keeping your desires in check.”

“Honestly, I never had to…now that I think about it.”

“So, this is my fault!” Eva asked angrily, sitti
ng up.

“Yeah. It is.” Noah admitted simply.

“So, you’d prefer someone you didn’t have to hold back with?”

“I know I would never have to hold back with another woman.” Noah admitted as he sat up then explained, “I never felt anything with other women. Sex was …just sex. It was a function at best. Then you came, and it became…a bonding…marking…. something powerful.”

“Oh. But why do you hold back?”

“I need to. I lose control with you. I’m supposed to keep you safe, protect you, not hurt you.”

  “It was an accident….”

“It shouldn’t happen. Ever! I won’t let it happen again.”

“It’s not so bad. I liked it when you were like that…”

“So, that’s why I had to stop?”

  “It was a little …too much, but…”

  “It’s not happening. End of.”

“We are going to have sex, again right?”

“Yeah…not right now…or soon.” He clarified looking down at her.

“Why do I have a feeling ‘soon’ is going to be a very long time from now?”

Noah never replied, he just resumed his position wrapped up on the edge of the bed.

  “Noah?”

  * * *

Oral sex was all they had. He refused to do anything else even though Eva told him she was better. A month had passed. It was election time and Eva couldn’t wait for it to be over.

For support, it was like the campaign trail all over again. They made appearances with Eric and Olivia. Wayland would be staying on as an advisor and though at rallies supporters were disappointed Noah wasn’t running, he was still adamant about never returning to the White House.

The supporters weren’t the only ones disappointed. Instead of being in the defense ministry or going back to the bureau, like Eva and everyone else thought he would, Noah signed on to become Director of Homeland Security. He reasoned he would still be doing what he always wanted to do, protect his country.

Side effect or maybe it was a bonus in his mind the position though it was in Washington, would be heavy on travel. She would barely get to see him. This sparked a new argument.

“I feel betrayed.” Eva gritted out once they were alone. He made the announcement public first and that’s how she found out, “Shouldn’t we have discussed this first?”

  “Why?”

“What do you mean why?” Eva argued. “This affects all of us! Or have you conveniently forgotten we exist!”

  “I haven’t forgotten. We won’t even have to move…”

“But you will!” Eva countered. “How could you be so selfish!”

  “I’m not being selfish!”

“Yes, you are!” Eva argued. “We are finally free of all their damn rules and you do sign us up for more. Security details and long trips away from each other!”

“You take trips for work too….”

“Which I had to cut back as First Lady….:

“You knew what you were signing up for….”

“I sure as hell didn’t sign up for this!”

“I didn’t want to be President! That was your genius idea and like the fool I am l, I went along with it!”

“Well, I guess I’m being punished for that now, aren’t I?”

“Now look who’s being selfish. This isn’t even about you! I’m gonna do a job that makes me happy. Why can’t you just be happy for me!” Noah countered before adding finally “And I did think about you because Interpol offered me a job, but I’d have to disappear for a few years, so I didn’t take it. Glad I was selfish enough not to abandon my family!” He slammed the door after he left and cursed in the hall.

“That fucking redhead! Nothing I do is good enough! She wanted me to be President! I’m President. She wants me to quit. I quit. I finally do something I want to do, and she has a problem! Fuck her! I’m gonna take the fucking Interpol job…” Damn the kids. He’d miss his kids. He was going fishing with them come summer. Noah took a deep breath calming himself before heading towards the office unaware of the shocking thoughts of his security detail.

Once the office door closed behind him, Rafe whispered, “You don’t think that’s a red flag!”

“It’s not a secret.” Hector countered. “He said it on the trail before he got into office.”

“It sounds like she forced him into it.”

“I’m not married, but in a relationship, you tend to do a lot of shit you don’t want to do to make the other person happy. He did it because she believed he could, nothing more.

“She funded him too. You don’t think that’s a lot of faith?”

“That’s the spook in you thinking like that. There’s nothing going on with Eva and Noah that a night of sex doesn’t fix. They fight. They make up.” Hector pointed out calmly. “You’re reading too much into this…”

Eva walked up the door briskly knocked then called, “Noah, can I come in?” She waited for a reply and when none came she added seductively. “I’m willing to apologize however you want me to.”

  Still no reply.

Eva complained, “Ugh! You can be such a baby sometimes! I came to say I’m sorry and I would like to do so face to face!”

“Apology accepted!” Noah called through the door. “But I’m still not happy with you!”

“Let me in and I’ll change that.” Eva teased.

“That’s why the door is between us!” Noah admitted. “You came here to get me to do what you want, but I’m not changing my mind. I already signed the contract.”

“FINE!! Do what you want, and I’ll do what I want!”

The door swung open and Noah asked. “What do you mean by that?”

“I don’t have to tell you,” Eva said stubbornly, her chin in the air. “Couples discuss things, but you seem to think I’m some sort of…puppet master!”

“You can’t do anything. You know that, right?”

“I can do anything! You can’t stop me! How will you stop me when you’re miles away!”

Noah ground his teeth and cursed, “You’re not a puppet master! You’re a manipulative bit…!”

Eva slapped him before he finished and threatened. “You want me to be a bitch? I can be a bitch!”

She stormed off while Noah counted to calm down. Then he mumbled to himself “Redhead, she’s a redhead. Never forget she’s a redhead. I’m going to fucking pay if I don’t apologize. Fuck! How the fuck does she make me the bad guy? I’m not apologizing. It’s her fault! Fuck it. I’m not apologizing! She can go fuck herself! I’m not apologizing!” He returned to the office and closed the door.

“See,” Hector said calmly. “Normal shit.”

There was nothing normal about the President and First Lady as far as Rafe could see.

  44

  Gut Instincts

Noah knew she’d make him pay but the scary part was how and when. She acted like they never argued, but Noah knew better than to push his luck. He scrutinized everything he ate and drank, even though there were agents tasked with doing just that, he knew Eva could find a way around them. He was even afraid of the clothes he wore, not that he thought she would seriously hurt him, but he knew she didn’t think a little payback was hurting him.

He was so jumpy his security detail picked up on it and was suddenly jumpy themselves. It got so bad that a glass dropped, and Noah hit the ground faster than his agents reacted, looking around the room in a panic until Hector asked, “Sir, is there something you need to tell us?”

  “Everything’s fine.”

  “Sir, any death threats…”

“Kurt’s had to retire, his hand still doesn’t work right,” Noah replied, straightening to his full height.

“Oh,” Hector said in understanding then said to his mike, “The code is fiery red. Stand down. I repeat do not engage.”

“What the hell does that mean?” Rafe whispered.

“I’ll tell you outside,” Hector said calmly ushering Rafe out. Once
the door closed he informed Rafe. “It’s the First Lady.”

“And we just leave it like that!” Rafe asked in shock.

“Elections are almost over, and she won’t really kill him. Besides, he can take her hits. Kurt should’ve listened.”

  “What happened to Kurt?”

“She fractured his hand. I signed up to protect him until I retire. They’re gonna reassign me to Homeland security, you should think about doing that.”

  “She fractured his hand!”

“Broke a few ribs as well. Sam says he’s staying on her detail. Granger too. What are you gonna do?”

“How can you be so calm about that?”

“He did his job. He protected the President. He got hurt.”

“By the First Lady! Don’t you think that’s a tad odd?”

“She was mad, and he got in the way. Sam told him not to attack.”

“You-you you’re just okay with her hurting an agent!”

“He wasn’t the only one. Jim got a broken nose and Frank’s was back on duty in two months.”

“Holy Fuck!” Rafe exclaimed. “Aren’t all those guys military trained?”

“Frank and Kurt were special forces marines and Jim I think was a ranger.”

“And it still doesn’t bother you that she was able to take three of them out!”

“Not really. They’re not dead, which is what we all expect when we sign on.” Finally facing Rafe, Hector assured, “Sam said if they had stopped coming after her first strike the damage wouldn’t have been that permanent. So now I follow his lead, she wants to get to Noah, let her. They hash it out then go back to mauling each other in the hall.”

  “Her training doesn’t bother you?”

“I understand it bothers you, the spook!” Hector replied irritably. He was growing tired of defending everything they did to Rafe. The man kept seeing issues where there was none. Eva and Noah were young, they did normal couple shit. It was just amped up because of their training and positions. “Stop seeing problems around every corner and focus on your job.” Looking directly at him, Hector added, “Then again maybe you are.”

Rafe grew quiet knowing he overstepped a line somewhere. Maybe telling him why he was here wasn’t such a good idea. Hector seemed loyal to them and not inclined to break their trust. He expected that of Roger and Sam, but not the other Secret Service Agents.
