My Sister is Missing Page 21

by Carissa Ann Lynch

Now, I said that writing is lonely. And it is. But once the story was finished, the script completely flipped – taking this story on my computer and turning it into a real book was a group project, and I couldn’t have done it without the following people:

I am eternally grateful to my agent, Katie Shea Boutillier. She believed in this book from the very beginning and made me feel like a ‘real’ writer for the first time in my life. Even though she believes in my writing, she never goes easy on me. Her ideas and critiques are invaluable, and this book wouldn’t be what it is today without her insight and guidance at every turn.

My editor, Charlotte Ledger – Charlotte probably doesn’t know this, but I secretly admired her and her clients for many years before she ever saw this book. When I found out that she loved the book and wanted to acquire it, it was one of the best days of my entire life. I tried to play it cool and calm, but inside, my heart was exploding with joy. This story evolved into the book it is today because of Charlotte’s incredible insight into this story. She helped me take it to the next level, and it was like a thousand tiny light bulbs lit up when she gave me her feedback.

I also want to thank Emily Ruston and Dushi Horti for their invaluable editorial work on this book, and the entire Harper and Killer Reads team for making me instantly feel at home. They provided me with a beautiful cover and made this process so enjoyable for me.

A huge thanks to my first reader, and dear friend, Chelsi Davis. She always tells it like it is, and she believed in this book so much that it gave me the confidence to keep going. Thank you, Chelsi! And I’m so sorry that you always have to read the roughest, rawest versions of my books.

To my sister, Vicki, and my mother, Lana – thank you for believing in me and encouraging me to keep going even when the process felt impossible and draining.

To Shannon, Dexter, Tristian, and Violet – every book I ever write will be for you all. You all believe in me more than I believe in myself, and have inspired so many of my stories. As long as you all like my books, then I’m set for life.

Lastly, thank you to my dear readers – I appreciate you taking a chance on this book and me! If not for you, I couldn’t write, so thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading this book.
