Author’s Note
The role played by coal in Victorian England cannot be overstated. Coal fueled the everyday lives of the Victorians and also powered the era’s technological advances, from the steam-driven locomotives and ships to sprawling manufactories. Indeed, Britain was the world’s largest supplier of coal in the nineteenth century, with yearly production reaching over 60 million tons by 18541.
In The Duke Redemption, I make use of a prototype “coal drop,” a warehouse over which a train runs and unloads its cargo by opening the bottom of its wagons. I modeled my coal drop from one that exists in London to this day (although it has now been repurposed into a shopping area). I must confess to some artistic license: the coal drop in London wasn’t built until 1850, a decade after Wick and Bea’s story, but I figured the idea for a prototype could have existed before then…and the fictional symbolism was simply too delicious to resist.

“I discovered a new auto-buy author with [M is for Marquess]… I’ve now read each of Grace Callaway’s books and loved them—which is exceptional. Gabriel and Thea from this book were two of the best characters I read this year. Both had their difficulties and it was charming to see how they overcame them together, even though it wasn’t always easy for them. This is my favorite book of 2015.”—Romantic Historical Reviews

“Callaway is a talented writer and as skilled at creating a vivid sense of the Regency period as she is at writing some of the best, most sensual love scenes I’ve read in a long while. For readers who crave sexy, exciting Regency romance with a fresh plot and intriguing characters, I would highly recommend Her Protector’s Pleasure.”—Night Owl Reviews
"You know when a book is so good that you are still reading it at 2 am....This book had it all: drama, laughter and a few tears as well. The chemistry between Harry and Tessa just sizzled off the pages....If I could I would give this book ten stars, but I'm only allowed to give 5/5 stars." —Boonies123 Book Review on The Duke Identity

The Duke Redemption was written during power shutdowns, wildfires, and storms. It was written during writers’ retreats, weekly sessions at the coffeeshop with my besties, and the wee hours of the morning in my she-shed. It was written despite sickness, early school dismissals, and other life surprises. In other words, this book was written because I needed to tell the story.
Writing is my passion—even when it makes me want to tear my hair out—and I consider it the greatest privilege to be able to share that joy with you, my dear reader. Thank you for joining me on this journey. Your support means everything.
To my writing pals: this journey would not be half as fun without you. Thank you for the friendship, inspiration, advice, and laughter. I am in awe of your brilliance and generosity.
Thank you to my editor for loving my characters as much as I do and helping me to show them off in their best light.
And to my family…we made it through another book! Thank you for your patience, support, and love.
